Title: July Tournament
Description: July 28th, 2012

Zetan - June 8, 2012 06:46 PM (GMT)
July 28th, 1,250 points, 4 rounds, 1.5 hours per round, starting at 11:00 AM. There will be a 1-hour break between the first and second rounds. Entry fee will be $10 (due at the door, no need to pay ahead of time), and prizes will be based on participation.

We're doing a beginner-friendly tournament! It's half the size of our normal tournament, and there's lots of time (over a month and a half, at time of writing) to get your army together! If you've been wanting to check out tournaments at Sci-Fi but just haven't been able to get a big enough force together yet, now is your chance!

Scoring will work as follows:

0 points for a loss
1 point (for each player) for a draw (less than 100 points difference and neither side wiped out)
2 points for a normal victory
3 points for a crushing victory (twice as many victory points as enemy)

(It's worth noting that you must achieve normal victory before you can get a crushing victory... so if one person gets 25 VP and the other gets 50, it's still a draw, despite getting twice as many VP as the enemy.)

Tie-breakers will be first based on direct competition (so if you won against anyone you're tied with, you are ranked ahead of them), then based on how your opponents did (and so how challenging your particular line-up was).

Teclis, Kairos Fateweaver, and The Masque are banned from this tournament. All other special characters are allowed!

The version of Power Scroll from the main rulebook is not allowed. However, we will allow the version of Power Scroll presented in White Dwarf 379, the August 2011 issue.

Lists will be required to be submitted ahead of time! You must send your army list to me by 9AM on Friday, July 27th. Please either PM your list to me (Zetan) on the forums or email it to shane@scifigenre.com and not to any other email address. I do not have access to Army Builder, so if you use Army Builder, make sure to export your list to PDF format or I won't be able to read it!

If we get an odd number of people, the person who currently has the lowest score (and hasn't had one yet) will get a bye, which is worth the average score of their other two games. If there is a tie for lowest score (as there will always be in the first round) among multiple people who haven't gotten it, the person who sent me their list last out of those who tied will get the bye. This means that if we have an odd number of people, and you sent your list last, you will get the first round bye. So get those lists to me asap!

List submission is required in order to allow me time to look over everyone's lists and make sure they're legal. This is your pre-registration, in a manner of speaking, though entry fee will not be due until the day of the tournament. It is okay to submit a list then not show up, but it is not okay to show up without having submitted a list by the deadline, so if you're not sure whether you'll make it, submit your list just in case.

This will be a closed-list tournament. You must give all the details of models on the table (what they are and what they're equipped with, what sort of command they have, etc) and are required to share the unit's stats. You do not, however, have to tell your opponent about any models or other details not on the table. This includes fanatics, assassins, magic items, and anything else I haven't thought of. If a unit's stats or rules are changed by a magic item and your opponent asks about them, tell them what the stats/rules would be without the item. Spells must still be rolled publicly, since there's no practical way to do it otherwise. If you have any question about when you have to tell your opponent about something (start of the game, when it's first used, etc) please ask me before the tournament.

Items that produce ongoing effects (such as Frenzy, Stubborn, and stat increases) need not be revealed until those effects take place (such as being close enough to need to measure for a forced charge, taking a break test, and attacking). There was some debate about this last tournament, particularly with frenzy, so to clear that up, the way we're playing it now is to have an item causing Frenzy revealed as soon as there's any question in your mind about whether they're in charge range. Reveal it right before you measure this.

As always, unpainted (and even some proxied) models are acceptable. We encourage painting, but do not require it. It is important to note that, especially in the case of anything that's not 100% WYSIWYG, you must tell your opponent what a unit is when you deploy it, including non-magical equipment.

At any point during the tournament, if you have a question about an opponent's list, you should bring that question to the TO (me). Please be polite about it, and be polite when your opponent does it. It is not to be treated as rude when an opponent asks the TO if you really have a magic item you just revealed or anything of that nature. They're not saying you're cheating, and acting defensive like they just accused you of it only makes you look guilty. Likewise, you should not feel bad to ask the TO about an opponent's list; they could be making an innocent mistake that simply needs correcting. Make questions brief and simple and there won't be any significant delay to the game. Example:
"I use a dispell scroll."
"That's your fourth one, right?"
"Yup."
"Mind if I check with the TO about that real quick?"
"Of course not, go right ahead."
"Shane, does he have at least four dispell scrolls on his list?"
"Let me see... yup, he does."
"Cool.. thanks! Okay, so my spell is dispelled..."
Simple, right? I know there's potential for a lot of awkwardness and/or drama with anything like this, but if we all just be polite and civil about it, it should go well.

Please post any questions, comments or suggestions here. Remember to submit your lists before the deadline. Thank you!

I'll be there, this time with my painted* Skaven.

*That's right, I said painted! Only 20 or so Skavenslaves, 1 Hellpit, 1 Grey Seer and 40 Plague Monks to go. Thank goodness I just bought an airbrush.

Matt - June 9, 2012 02:39 AM (GMT)
I will be there as well, and like Tom, with a fully painted army!

Shriker - June 13, 2012 02:21 AM (GMT)
Attending. I like low points :)

Collins - June 13, 2012 02:42 AM (GMT)
Count me in.

Tekore - June 14, 2012 04:05 PM (GMT)
I'm in it to win it.

Orion25 - June 21, 2012 09:14 PM (GMT)
What will the scenarios be? Essentially, do I need to prepare for Blood and Glory? ;)

Orion25 - June 21, 2012 09:15 PM (GMT)
What are our options for scenarios? (Basically, do I need to prepare for Blood and Glory;)?

I'll probably use from-the-book scenarios, or at least something pretty similar. Blood and Glory is definitely on the table, so make sure you're ready for it.

I'm in.

Now, to decide how many cannon are too many cannon...

Also, if anyone new is reading this and wants to try Fantasy, but doesn't have figures, I have 7500 points of Empire or so, and could therefore loan a couple armies out. PM or email me if you're interested.

I also have plenty of Chaos to go around if anyone needs a few models or has finally realized who the true lord of War is. :)

banderso - July 18, 2012 01:41 PM (GMT)
Sounds awesome! I'll be there.

Shriker - July 25, 2012 10:42 AM (GMT)
Not going to be able to attend. Just got other priorities.

Zetan - July 26, 2012 04:33 PM (GMT)
Less than a day left to get me your list! I've already got 10 lists, so it's looking like a big one. :)

Shimmergloom - July 26, 2012 08:42 PM (GMT)
I think I have to sit this one out.

I pulled or strained some muscles in my leg and it hurts to stand or walk for more than short periods. I don't think it'll be better by Saturday.

Dear Marcus,

I didn't quit when half of my face was replaced by cyborg metal. I didnt give up when my punches were only as strong as my punches. You can do it!

Sincerely,

Kickpuncher

Orion25 - July 27, 2012 03:52 AM (GMT)
Can't wait. Thanks for putting this together.

Saracens FTW - July 27, 2012 12:23 PM (GMT)
List sent! Looking forward to this.

Zetan - July 27, 2012 02:14 PM (GMT)
Here's what I've got:

Brad
Branch
Andy
Paul
Ben
Tom
Blair
Geoff
Collins
Sandler
Shannon
Ian
Phil

If your name isn't on the above list, but you sent me an army list, get in touch with me asap! PM is probably the safest way, as email can occasionally be unreliable.

Looks like a big turnout! See you all there. :)

Don't worry, I'll be back in Kickpuncher 2: Codename Punchkicker.

Guys,

Bart's just being humble, but I think he should get his due. Bart is being called up for the Polish Olympic Wrestling Team (or as they call it, the "Polympics") as an emergency replacement after Monika Michalik sustained a stubbed toe injury. Let's all wish Bart the best of luck.

Ben
