Title: Brawler Bash
Description: Some quick feedback

Hey Guys,

I’m sorry this posting is late for Brawler Bash feedback, but I wanted to discuss the tournament quickly.

First, a huge thanks to the entire Lindley clan including Erik, Kevin, and Denisse. I realize how much time it takes to create rules, organize, space, terrain and run an event for a whole weekend and they did an amazing job!

Additionally, for Erik in particular- I want to thank him for being so responsive to feedback from the past few years. I thought all the corrections this year were a great improvement and I enjoyed myself immensely.

Some aspects I really liked:
1) 3,000 points. After the tournament, I am convinced 3K should be the new standard. Bigger units and more troops’ means everyone is less susceptible to losing from dwellers/mind razor. Great change.

2) The interplay between cards and scenarios was well done. I know I’ve discussed after last year with Erik my disdain for the GW scenarios as I felt that they are a carbon copy of 40K scenarios that are transplanted into the fantasy realm. Moreover, not all scenarios are created equal with army consideration. An O&G army with a general arriving late or stranded on the far side of the board is significantly worse than for a Vampire army. Erik utilized aspects of the scenarios very well to provide flavor to the standard template, but without paralyzing players’ armies.

Some aspects I would change:

1) At 3K and with scenario objectives worth so much the margin of victory needs to be at least 300 points and preferably around 500 points. It was simply too little. 100 point difference in essence means losing a mere 3% more of your army results in a loss. Even in a fantasy environment such a difference for win margin seems unrealistic. My record for the tournament was 4-1 and realistically, I felt it should be have closer to a 3-0-2 as two of my games were less than 200 point margins for the win.

2) Comp- I know comp systems are a tricky subject for everyone. However, I would advocate for at least a minimum of comp. The reason I do so for GT play is that I think it encourages more adult gamers to make the tournament trip this edition. Since I know our group and the majority of tournament gamers in North Carolina, I had no problem with attending. However, I won’t normally pay $200-$500 on a weekend of Warhammer plus the time for a no comp tournament. Similarly, I would do some of the standard practices such as allowing a ‘look-out sir role’ for spells such as Dweller Below.

Finally, congratulations to all the winners. Ben, Robert, and Collins it is well deserved.

Best Regards,

Lance

I agree with this alot. My major problems with 8th is magic. And I think 3k makes magic less detrimental than the 2k or 2500pt games.

Actually for me, it seemed like these past 2 years with little to no comp, I've felt the armies that I have faced were not as bad as those I faced the 3 years that we had lots of comp.

Really other than BRB magic lores there was nothing much for me to complain about. And I went against 2 double slaughermaster and a double slann list.

Partly I think that was the no grand armies aspect and partly because as we agree, 3k seems what the game is balanced for.
