Title: Soulbond and Miracle

Marcus N. - April 7, 2012 09:34 PM (GMT)
What do you guys think of the new revealed Mechanics?

With Miracle, it looks like Delver isn't going to go away any time soon.

The reminder text for soulbound is confusing as hell.

It's a bit strange for sure.

They need to be very very careful with Miracle. I think thunderous wrath is pushing it. I can easily see it fitting into UR burn.

One mana for 5 burn is indeed ridiculous.

It can be, though you have to weigh the benefit of whether to use it or not if you do not indeed need a "miracle".

The red miracle card is real dangerous in Legacy. UR Delver/Burn (real one with a bigger burn set, not a snapcaster-based one) was already leaps ahead of mono-R burn, and this is the perfect card for it. There's no reason you couldn't chunk in a singleton See Beyond or Pyrokenesis as another means of dealing with the "stuck in hand" problem.

Supposedly the one R&D is "most worried about" is going to be revealed tonight. It's probably blue.

Yep, it's blue, and the "Miracle" effect is Time Walk. Gross. Stuck in your hand? Easy pitch to Force.

Really, in the same format with four-of Jace? I mean as a man who loves me some Jace I won't complain, but that's dumb.

And haha to the Standard players who have to be on the wrong end of time walk that double-flips Delvers. This is stupid.

white one is W, exile target creature/artifact/enchantment.

Edit: Can't wait to Snapcaster Personal Tutor (which got a timewalk) to set up another time walk on the next turn. Don't think about this card in the "durdle around with top" sort of think, think about it as "I want to take three or four more turns every game vs. my opponent and murder them with this Jace"

testing32 - April 9, 2012 10:23 AM (GMT)
Why would they print that? I just don't understand.

Edit: I do understand, it's the chase mythic but still. Come on.

R&D isn't even trying to hide that blue is the best color any more.

Yeah... that seems like it will be a giant nuisance for Modern and Eternal formats, where you can stack the top card of your deck fairly easily.

phfantom - April 10, 2012 06:35 PM (GMT)
so.... first card since skullclamp that is banned in a format before it hits shelves officially? I'm just guessing here :)

Skullclamp wasn't banned that fast. Only Memory Jar holds that distinction.

Yeah, I thought I remembered 'clamp having to be played in every single deck before they decided to ban hammer it.

Even Memory Jar was legal for a tournament (or maybe two?). I believe what actually happened with Jar was that it was banned Out-Of-Cycle, as in, an "Emergency Ban", not on their usual 3 month cycle.

Ah, yes...

On March 1, 1999, they announced the Banlist to become effective April 1, 1999. At the same time, Urza's Legacy joined Standard, and the Jar Deck was discovered. So they retroactively added it to the March 1 announcement, and it was banned effective in April, even though it wasn't on the list on the 1st.

So it was legal for all of like 1 Grand Prix.

And anyway, no, we're not seeing an emergency ban. A regular ban, MAYBE, but if so it will be on Ponder, Delver, or Snapcaster Mage. (Most likely Ponder).

In Legacy... Brainstorm might finally bite it, but I honestly doubt it.

Also, hooray, we have comp. rules for the keywords now.

Already? That was fast. Although I guess with the Mechanics articles not too surprising.

I think they were supposed to be in the Mechanics article but they slipped up.

There's no reason to hold back on the comp. rules for the mechanics once the mechanics are public. Just helps players figure out combos and understand the new cards.

They don't release the FAQ simply because it references (spoils) so many cards.

My comment wasn't so much "too soon" as it was "they usually take longer than this." :)

Heh. True.

Although they have been getting better lately.
