Jack called today and among other things said that some of the clans, if you talk to them and pledge some sort of allegiance, will pay for your Imperial Assembly membership. He said he would talk to the guys he knows who are clan leaders and get back to us.

I wrote some of this in the other post, but here's a quick run down.

Because loyalty to a clan may allow that clan to get one of its members as emperor of Rokugan, many clans are paying for people's imperial memberships if the pledge loyalty to that clan.

This means more than just saying "Yeah, I like the Scorpion. Buy me stuff." There are many many ways to earn race points for your clan (check out www.L5R.com and click the "Race for the Throne" link on the right column for more information), and most of these clans will want you to do what you can to try and earn points. This will mean making posters, writing fiction, sending in Koku, going to tournaments, winning quiz contests, making costumes, winning events, roleplaying, and generally supporting your clan in what it wants to do.

Obviously you won't do all of these, and even what you choose to do will only be an attempt, with hundreds/thousands of other players trying to outdo you, but most clans will ask that you try your best before they fork over their money for you membership. Some of them will even call you to assess how loyal they feel you are to the clan.

This might sound like a lot of work, or a lot of fun, depending how much of a damn you give.

I'm working on getting a list of e-mails/forums that you can check out if you're interested in supporting a clan for the throne and getting a free membership out of it. I'll post what I get as soon as I get it.
