I had a complaint about gas in a water well in Defiance County ( back in the dark ages). It was a new well and the driller hit pretty high pressure gas. We had a devil of time trying to abandon it because the gas pressure was too great for the grout. We talked at one time about packing the well with a lead wool to seal off the gas and then grouting. That idea was abandoned because no one was comfortable about introducing lead down a water well. There were explosion concerns. I can't remember what actually happened with it. Maybe another poster remembers what was done to seal up the well?
