Wey, it finally came in the post this morning. Mr Wootens second solo album. Yea its been out for a while but its still super.
Unlike his first solo album this album is not just bass, its got drums, heaps of basses, loads of singing, guitar, drum sticks, percussion and stuff. There still is the solo bass pieces, and most tunes on the album have about 15 tracks of bass on them. haha.
Its a very funky CD, but the stuff i really like is the easy going stuff, like 'heaven is where the heart is' or 'sometimes i laugh' these both being superb solo bass pieces. Victors version of Norwegian wood is also really nice.
There is also room for the unexpected here. the tune 'the loneliest monk' is a fair chuckle, wooten plays a bunch of instruments here, including chelo and lead vocals (which are relartively chuckle worthy). And the song 'soujour of arjuna' gives us sometihng completely different, with legend bela fleck stepping in on banjo.
This album is alot more song and groove orientated than the first one, theres still a fair bit of absalute bass nailage but its put into a more musical context. youll get a good nail on cherokee though, serious double thumping. wey
