A command line tool I made for unpacking and repacking ARC files.

Features:
- Unpack and repack
- Using text file as reference for file order (required for Dragon's Dogma and many archives for RE6)
- Real extension support for RE5 and Dragon's Dogma (also has an incomplete extension list for RE6)
- Support for no compression, dynamic compression or always compression when repacking archives (RE6 and RE5 on xbox requires every file to be compressed)
- Automatic conversion of TEX (pc and xbox only).
- Automatic conversion of GMD (xbox only).
- Automatic renaming of stages in RE5 and RE6.
- Support for xbox, pc, and ps3 ARC files

Currently tested and supported games:
-Resident Evil 5
-Resident Evil 6
-Resident Evil: Revelations
-Dragon's Dogma

Example usage:
xbox-re6-extract s0305.arc
xbox-re6-repack s0305
pc-re5-extract fig01.arc
pc-re5-repack fig01
(you can also drag and drop directories and arc files onto the respective bat files in windows explorer)

You need a jtag. Otherwise there's no way for the game to load the modified arc files.

It has correct extensions for RE5 and Dragon's Dogma if you use the "-RE5" or "-DD" arguments. I imagine you would get most of RE6's extensions if you use RE5's extension list.

Edit: Uploaded new version which has some real extensions for RE6. But it lacks many.

The XFS seems to be the most tricky ones as there's no hint what the extension should be.

http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8972 - This guy got the entire extension list by somehow looking through the executable, but I'm not familiar with the process.

yep some of the extensions in the script have been added looking at the xex and the files fourcc, the only ones i can't get are the xfs one as i can't get the crc32 + mask trick to work :/, but at least you can add the new ones in this script :D

Added a new feature which automatically converts TEX files to TGA. Thanks to MrNightmare and chrrox who posted info regarding this.

I struggled quite a bit to get this working. The primary thing I got wrong is that I expected the resulting image data to be compatible with ordinary DDS headers, but it seems xbox DDS files (at least the ones used in MT Framework xbox games) are different.

Use the "-tex" argument to activate the feature. And use "-texRE5" or "-rexRE6" to choose texture format. Dragon's Dogma and RE6 uses RE6 format. RE5 (and presumably older MT Framework games) uses RE5 format. Texture formats are already added to the batch files, but you'll still need to add "-tex" to activate the tex conversion.

TGA files are ignored during repacking, so it's safe to leave them lying around.

Some TEX types are currently not converted as I don't know what DDS subformat they're in. I'm planning to make it possible to automatically convert TGA back to TEX during repacking, but that feature will take a while to finish.

If anyone stumbles on any unsupported TEX files, let me know (especially if it's RE5 TEX files, as those should be easy to add support for). If anyone wants a separate TEX->TGA conversion tool, let me know.

New version uploaded. This one supports converting TGA files back to TEX. However, the TGA files must be the same resolution as the old ones, there is some lossiness when converting back and forth and it does not work with all TEX types (it should safely ignore the ones it does not support though).

Biggest changes are support for automatically converting GMD (text files) back and forth, and basic PC support (it might be full support for RE5 PC, but I haven't tested it thoroughly).

Updated tool again which should support all the normal maps. Let me know if there's any crashes, corrupt files or if any of the channels are swapped in the image data.

They extract automatically they're like located in a folder like Data/Chara/Pl/model or something, i can't remember the exact structure but you'll find it they have an extension as .5XXXXXX or something just view it in a hex editor, you'll know because it'll have DOM in the first part of the header.

PS3 ARC files can be decompressed with the Quickbms method easily, there is no exact tool but Quickbms is a multi-tool which runs on scripts of instructions to unpack the archive. It works on RE5, PC, PS3, Xbox

I actually checked the PS3 Arc format from the demo and it's the same, i recommend using the files from the final game as they don't have a funky header.

This tool is specifically made for Xbox only.

Is it possible to extract/repack the RE6 .arc files and work in game with the modded skins or model swap on the xbox?
I use the original re6-extract.bat (arctool -x -re6 -texRE6 %1 %2 %3) or this command to extract
(arctool -x -re6 -texRE6 -xbox -tex %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9)
than i delete all the unnecessary .tga and use this to repack
(arctool -c -re6 -texRE6 -xbox -tex %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 -alwayscomp)
or this
(arctool -c -re6 -texRE6 -xbox -tex %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9)
but the .arc is some MB different from the original and doesn't work in the game.

PS3 ARC files can be decompressed with the Quickbms method easily, there is no exact tool but Quickbms is a multi-tool which runs on scripts of instructions to unpack the archive. It works on RE5, PC, PS3, Xbox

Download the newest version. It should have .bat files with "-txt" added to them. I didn't think file order would be necessary for RE6, but it ended up being so. You might need to unpack the arc once to get the file order in a text file.

Sectus big thanks for the help, works great, i need to find out the way of how to swap the head, body models but the skins works fine and the good thing is that the mods also works as iso mod for the users without a jtag/RGH because it doesn't need a patch default.xex.

Wait, so it's possible to mod some xbox360 games without Jtag? I have a hard time believing that an xbox360 would just read an ISO on some random DVD disc or Flash Drive..Or am I missing something? If that was possible pirating would be out of control on consoles lol
