Cyndaquil- Easy
Cyndaquil could beat the first Gym without difficulty, and could defeat the second one with ease.

Totodile-Normal
Totodile could defeat the first 2 Gyms with out difficulty, but may have a hard time in the Sprout Tower.

Chikorita-Hard
Will not get through the first 2 Gyms easily, and Sprout Tower will be difficult due to the high amount of Grass type Pokemon found in the Sprout Tower.
It is recommended to capture a Geodude to battle Gym Leader Falkner, and a Pidgey to take on the Sprout Tower and the Gym Leader Bugsy.

When Battling Gym Leader Whitney:
Capture a Geodude or an Onix of the "Female Gender".
Rock types are resistant to Normal types and know Attract, most of her Pokemon (if not all) are female.
Having a female rock type will make Whitney unable to defeat you.

When Battling Gym Leader Morty:
Try hatching your Mystery Egg before entering the 4th Gym.
If you do Togepi could be the Key to defeating Morty.
The reason is simple, you don't actually have to land an attack on the trainers in Morty's Gym, all you have to do is switch out every time the foe uses Curse.
and none of the other attacks could effect Togepi.
But you may actually need to do some real fighting to beat Morty himself.

When battling Gym Leader Chuck:
Having your Pidgey evolve into Pidgeoto would be good way to dealing with the fighting Pokemon within the Gym.
Also, having a Flaaffy will help you to deal with Poliwrath.

When battling Gym Leader Jasmine:
It's best to use your Typhosion for offense and Flaaffy or Ampharos for defense.
But watch out for her Steelix, it might know Earthquake or Dig.
If you didn't start off with a Cyndaquil, I recommend you capture a Vulpix or a Growlithe.

When Battling Gym Leader Pryce:
If you started you journey with a Cyndaquil, you'll have very little problems when battling in this Gym.
If you Started with Totodile, you'll handle Piloswine with no problem, but you'll have some trouble battling with Dewgong.

RockSmash is a good attack to use when fighting in this Gym, because Ice are weak to Fighting attacks, it also lowers the foe's def.

If you started with Chikorita, You'll have some what of a advantage, due to some of the Pokemon being Water types.
You might wanna capture a Pineco, and evolve it into a Forretress.
Forretress has great def, and Ice types are weak to metal types.
when you're up against a Sneasel, GyroBall will take it out with no problem.

When Battling Gym Leader Clare:
Fire types will not do too well in this Gym, nor will Grass types.
You might wanna try and capture a Sneasel, Swinub, or a Jynx from the Ice cave.
Ice types are strong against Dragon types, Metal could resist the Dragon type attacks, but be careful, dragons will most likely know a fire type attack.
