8 years ago, everything was calm. Things have changed since then. There was a major explosion in a government plant one day, and radiation from the blast spread across the entire world. People gradually changed, some with physical mutations, some with mental ones.

Eventually, three sects arose from the wreckage that had spread across the globe. There were the rebels, doing everything they could to find what had happened and to avenge the human race, the adaptationists, who merely accepted that things would never be the same and moved on, and the government supporters, who had caused the accident in the first place.

Just before the rebels made an important breakthrough as to who had caused the explosion, demons were summoned to the site, destroying everything. However, the rebels were able to discover that the explosion had been caused by attempted human alchemy. The rebels also traced the summoning magic back to the government.

Since then, war has broken out between the rebels and government supporters. The rest of the population wants nothing to do with it, but they are beginning to grow restless. Also, some of them are upset that though the government caused these problems, they have made no attempt to fix them, and have also set demons loose on the world and lost control over them.

The people of the world have lost interest in the war between the rebels and government, and have turned their focus towards the demons. Although the rebel-government war still rages, their forces are now divided between the opposite side and the ever present demons.

Also, just after the original accident, the people saw a phoenix rise from the explosion. They hold it in their hearts as a symbol of hope.
