If you’d like to listen to the poem I’ll read,
Spun out of ancient stories, set down by honest men
With bold words
And faithful pens.

The settlers came, landing in metal birds on an unfamiliar planet. They called their new home Pern - raising families, crops, worshipping their newfound home.
Peace can only last so long. Gray rain fell from the skies. And all was lost.

But on jeweled wings of Gold and Bronze, the settlers were saved, and an age of hope struck fire into the hearts of the young.
The Weyrs were born.
And so began the Era of the Dragon.

Six Weyrs.
Six gathered to save Pern.
Six created to sear Thread from the sky.

But unbenownst to all but a few, there was a seventh Weyr...

And so there was Orolais.
