Title: Chaos Marine Helmet

Blood Wolf - September 21, 2011 08:06 PM (GMT)
Ok, trying to get an idea on the horn placement for my Chaos marine. Nothing is set in stone but thinking more along the lines of Emperors children Slaanesh.

Right now this is the leading canidate:

Though here are a few other locations

What do you think?

(also for the record, the mouth grill will hang fangs kind of like a predator and there will either be a topknot on the crest, or spikes running down it)

Finnlock - September 21, 2011 09:50 PM (GMT)
A or D IMO

D would probable be best because I think A would limit your head movement with the shoulders.

Esule - September 21, 2011 10:04 PM (GMT)
I'd say A.
It just looks right.

:slaanesh:

^ This, cause would you want to be whacking your horn onto your shoulder pads every time you looked left or right? lol

CLOTHAR - September 21, 2011 11:22 PM (GMT)
Have you looked at the idea of having them come out of the jaw line somewhere? I have seen minis like that before, that look bad ass.

Like tusks almost. . .

SCHRAMB0 - September 22, 2011 12:57 AM (GMT)
A looks to much like a viking imo.
Also, chaos IS NEVER symmetrical, rotate one of those guys 45 degrees from the other and cut off half the horn.

Yeah...Some times they are, because chaos is never not anything :)

For the minis yes, but most artwork usually shows mutant growths (like horns) are almost always assymetrical.

Blood Wolf - September 22, 2011 05:28 AM (GMT)
Well, I will say its going to be semetrical since I want a nice looking piece. Yes, while Chaos normaly is asymetrical..I think it will look better to me.

I had thought of the Tusk idea from the mouth area..however with the large fang grill..I think it is too much. Plus it really comes out and down off the mouth and looks too much.

Now...I did take seting A and moved them slightly more foward on the head. It looks a little less Viking and more demonic. Also it would allow for more laterial movement with any shoulder pads and backpack.

PS: the book in which its standing on is the horas heresy "Age of Darkness" :P :slaanesh:

Daeouse - September 22, 2011 06:31 AM (GMT)
Rock on! You chose a great layout! :chaos:

SINISTER - September 22, 2011 07:44 AM (GMT)
That last pic is the layout I'd go for. It has the right demonic appearance for a Chaos Marine. In my opinion.

Shiney - September 22, 2011 09:46 AM (GMT)
Use magnets and move them! ;)

wookieegunner - September 22, 2011 12:15 PM (GMT)
I really like the last layout but I worry about your vision.

What he said

Blood Wolf - September 22, 2011 03:41 PM (GMT)
Vision isnt a problem when I tried it on. I can see normaly through the eyes, however I'm still up in the air about where I want to see from. I'm also pondering making the grill where I look out of so the helmet sits way higher on the head giving it even more heigth

wookieegunner - September 22, 2011 04:40 PM (GMT)
But does it block your periphial vision? When you are in a crowd that can be more important than see in front of you.

Lamia - September 22, 2011 04:52 PM (GMT)
You will probably need a handler anyway, so don't fret overmuch about the blocked vision.

NOW TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THOSE HORNS! (please?)

wookieegunner - September 22, 2011 05:00 PM (GMT)

Finnlock - September 22, 2011 05:04 PM (GMT)
They are readily available from a number of outlets. They even come with teeth on a blister card.

Here they are for 6.99 + shipping
http://www.halloweencostumes.com/devil-horns-teeth.html

I have a set of these kicking around form when I started Raven's Hell Girl costume. I had thought about using them as a base and chopping the upper horn off. Went a different route in the end. But I can say for the money they are well made horns and light weight.

Edit:
Yep the wookster has beaten me to the punch. That is indeed the same horn set.

Blood Wolf - September 22, 2011 05:42 PM (GMT)
Yep. Got them at Party City here and like stated was only $7. Cant go wrong for so cheap of a price. Also they were nice and hard unlike many of the prostetic horns out there which are soft

I might even buy another pair to affix to the armor like on the houder pads or something

Lamia - September 22, 2011 06:52 PM (GMT)
Thanks, everyone <3

That idea has promise. . . :tzeentch:

Deetoz - September 22, 2011 10:54 PM (GMT)
Buy several sets, glue a set to the knees, a set to the gauntlets and cut a set down to the last 4-5 cm and glue them on top of the helmet! MOAR HOOORRNNNNNSSS!

The run around singing "Oh, me so horny!"?

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Shiney - September 23, 2011 01:10 AM (GMT)
Hahah... well I'm glad someone did that joke :) as I was about to burst trying to stop myself from doing it :)

Blood Wolf - October 13, 2011 09:28 PM (GMT)
Ok...soooo what do you guys think of this attached to the face plate of my helm? Right now I just have it strapped on to get an idea...

I've also thought about a varation of it with the bottom jaw removed...fangs added..etc

Vrogy - October 13, 2011 09:43 PM (GMT)
I wonder if you could get a thin, rubber halloween mask and stretch it out across some pegs over a shoulder/shin , like a skinned face etc. Maybe use some heat to melt it up some?

Finnlock - October 14, 2011 01:52 AM (GMT)
I don't think the skull really makes it say "Chaos" to me, but take the horns off and you have a nice chaplin helm...
What is the base skull mask you used?

I thought of that for my Sorcerer. . . B)

Blood Wolf - October 14, 2011 03:16 AM (GMT)
It is just a cheap mask I found in the halloween decorations at Joanns for $6. Figured worse case it was going to be resined and attached to a shoulder or knee :P But yeah...it does have the Chaplin/Sorcer feel more so
