Title: My pep adventure.
Kol Badar - September 8, 2011 06:43 AM (GMT)
Well I've taken the plunge and dived in so to speak. I have started down the long road of a SM pep build.
Using the awesome un-folds provided by Shiney,( awesome cause a computer retard like myself just has to set the printer to A4 and BANG !!! We're off and pep'ing.) I armed myself with blue and red pen, scissors and ruler and got into it.
Started with the helmet first and found the whole pep thing isn't as hard as I thought ( tedious, yes but not hard ).

I'm using superglue to stick it together, I can't stand or get a decent job done with a hot glue gun.
I have the chest and left arm done.

Right back to it I suppose, I have the "jocks" printed out, just need to "score" and cut 'em out. Oh yeah and glue them together. <_<
Daxam - September 8, 2011 06:48 AM (GMT)
Holy crap, that looks amazing! You've certainly got the scale looking good. I seriously can't add anything more. Also, really impressed that you can see out of the helmet. Can't wait to see more progress.
Tango89er - September 8, 2011 07:12 AM (GMT)
Looking good. Nice clean folds
Shiney - September 8, 2011 07:15 AM (GMT)
Dax - Lol, thank me for the scaling :P
Looking good mate, I thought I was wipping em out, but you're a gun :)
SCHRAMB0 - September 8, 2011 07:27 AM (GMT)
Looks awesome.
My only suggestion would be to extend the jaw down about an inch or so so it looks like it has room to accommodate your jaw opening and closing easier (and it'll look more menacing, slightly more so than it already is).
Shiney - September 8, 2011 07:47 AM (GMT)
Forgot to ask Kol, how well does the helmet and chest fit together? Can you turn your head smoothly etc?
Kol Badar - September 8, 2011 10:05 AM (GMT)
Hey Shiney, I just tried on the chest and helmet and they seem to work quite well together. No rubbing when I turned my head. I think once it is all webbed up, padded and held in place there won't be any issue.
The chest will need the "inner neck piece,( I left that out think you did as well ) just to help hide the neck a little.
Damn.... just noticed when I put the chest on it seems smaller now I have all the return edge pep work finished. All the edging around the arm and waist holes have " tightened" it up.
Schrambo, I have plans to extend the base of the helmet a little to help hide my jaw but I'll do this after I have put some resin on it.
Shiney - September 8, 2011 12:18 PM (GMT)
Good news on the helmet/neck area then.
Yah, I've still got the 'inner neck' rings here, was thinking of hardening and then splitting into two parts so you can put it on like a collar, or perhaps casting in something flexible. Thinking of using magnets to hold it on the chest neck ring.
All of the 'return edging' on the bottom isn't a big deal for me. I originally left those big supports on the bottom and in the arms till I got the resin on it. So hard to say exactly how I will roll and as you can see in my thread, I cut a HUGE hole in the arms for mobility. Planning to make up a flexible ribbed material for the joints which will look authentic yet still leave me the arm mobility. Oh and first go, the shoulders move like Stormtrooper shoulders, just bigger ;)
CLOTHAR - September 9, 2011 12:09 AM (GMT)
Great start! It makes me consider actually trying pep again...
Erus - September 9, 2011 02:29 AM (GMT)
Inspiring, to say the least!
Shiney - September 9, 2011 11:30 AM (GMT)
Clothar, .. pep, what's not to love.. skills I learnt when I was 4.. Not sure I got better ;)
Kol Badar - September 9, 2011 10:22 PM (GMT)
Ok..I said I was working on the cod/bum next but I got sidetracked with Tango's unfold of the plasma pistol V2.
It is around 350mm long, 70mm wide and has a height of220mm. I'm quite happy with the size of it.

It will need mods done once it has some resin on it, enlarging the trigger hole will be the 1st, I can't get my finger in now let alone when I have a padded glove on. But these will be done later down the track, from now on it's armour only. ;)
I've decided to concentrate on getting the upper torso finished, have 2 sets of shoulder pads printed out......so off I go.
Till next time.......................
kaiwanxiao - September 10, 2011 02:07 AM (GMT)
My G-d that is fantastic work.
SINISTER - September 12, 2011 06:04 AM (GMT)
WooooooHooooo!!! I'm lovin that Plasma Pistol. :D That's very nicely put together. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I don't know how you Pep boys do it. As I hate the tedium of the bloody stuff. But I do like the results you guys get! B) ;Ultrasmurf;
Kol Badar - September 16, 2011 05:58 AM (GMT)
Ok, it's been a busy week. In between a costume build for my son and various prop projects..oh and real life. I got a bit more done with this.
Both shoulder pauldrons and right arm pieces.

This is where I'm at with it all.

Working on the left leg now. :)
Till next time................
daeomonio - September 16, 2011 10:45 AM (GMT)
woohhaa very impressive !!
i work on a chaos version but my scaling seem to be wrong, how did you scaled (sizing) yours ?
Daeouse - September 16, 2011 07:34 PM (GMT)

Awesome work!!!
Well done indeed!!!

Shiney - September 18, 2011 11:01 AM (GMT)
Mate, kicking butt, we'll defiantly have to cross paths at a Con!
Kol Badar - September 19, 2011 06:47 AM (GMT)
Cheers mate, definitely have to get together for a con or 2.
Here in Qld we have a con called AUSCON it's for miniature gamers, painters and cosplay . Now tell me that ain't the perfect con for a SM costume.

Gamesday Aus is in Sydeny if memory serves me right. There's always plenty of Fantasy and 40k costumers there too
SINISTER - September 19, 2011 12:42 PM (GMT)
That's looking bloody brilliant!! :o You've scaled it perfectly and that's gonna be one mean looking S.O.B when it's all glassed and bondo'd.
Why are there no cons where I am except Anime? And why does no one know what 40K is here? So envious that you guys get to strut your stuff at other times apart from Halloween!! :(
CLOTHAR - September 19, 2011 09:45 PM (GMT)
You do pretty amazing pep work! Keep it up.
Kol Badar - September 29, 2011 06:36 AM (GMT)
Still ploddin' along with the pep stage of this build.
Right side leg pieces done. Here they are next to "Manny" .

DAMN.....that foot is BIG.
Half way through building the Left leg.
Till next time.........
Draco - September 29, 2011 10:32 AM (GMT)
Holy crap thats massive. Are your legs long enough to be able to wear that without doing eye watering harm?
Shiney - September 29, 2011 01:04 PM (GMT)
Ha, I think we'll scare the TK's [our mates] eh ;)
Draco this is a great example of how the greaves [calves] are far longer than the rest of it. The thighs appear to be 'about' the same size in length but the calves longer. Hence the need for risers in the foot. Having said that, I'm expecting some surprises and issues as more of this model are built. Suffice to say I'm sure the community will figure out solutions to such problems as you have described .. ha.
Troydo - September 29, 2011 05:54 PM (GMT)
looking awesome mate!!
Also i think you need to strap your leg to the "inside thigh" side of the armour.. as in a top down view of the cross section would look like...
outside leg armour -> ( o) (o )
...................................... ^ actual leg
does that make sense?
Kol Badar - October 9, 2011 08:03 AM (GMT)
Finished the left leg.... :D
Man, they're BIG..... :o

Just the "jocks" to go....
Till next time............
Draco - October 9, 2011 09:21 AM (GMT)
There's big and then there's OMFG!
Bloody nice work mate.
Stroggified_Nerd - October 9, 2011 09:24 AM (GMT)
Your Work looks amazing. Very clean folds, symmetrical buildup and no warping / deformation of the pieces. Respect!
Did you use an overall scale factor for all the pieces or have you scaled all the parts individually? If you don't mind telling - what's your body height and what scale(s) did you use? Thx!
Troydo - October 9, 2011 09:58 AM (GMT)
holy crap!
nice work mate!
Shiney - October 9, 2011 01:22 PM (GMT)
Yah, looks great, much better than my effort, what glue did you use? My hot glue gun makes a mess, leaves bumps, but it's better than clag and it grabs strongly and I hate those CA fingers [and the smell]

Use Elmer's glue for paper. ;)

I actually use Modge Podge with a paint brush or Elmers with a paint brush and it drys flat and perfect. Some others use a HIGH Heat hot glue (no bumps) and others use Super glue.
LOOKING GREAT!!
Kol Badar - October 9, 2011 09:06 PM (GMT)
Thanks all for the kind words. :D
@Stroggified Nerd....every piece is scaled at 850 using Shiney's un-folds. They are easy to use just set the printer for A4 paper and away you go. These un-folds and 850 scale are best used for heights of 6ft to 6-2. I'm 6ft. You can find these files and other members files in the "Spacemarine the game unfolds" thread.
@ Shiney...I've been using super glue to glue all the tabs and yeah I'm getting sick of sticky fingers....there are are few internal joins that have a bit of skin left behind.
I tried a low heat glue gun to start with but ended up with such a mess I just went with the superglue. It sticks fast and I can get a amour piece together and finished pretty quickly this way. :)
Shiney - October 9, 2011 10:34 PM (GMT)
I'll have to get over my fear of that evil stuff. and perhaps try gloves. *sighs*
