Title: What is the Obscurus Crusade?
Cptn. Palladorus - January 14, 2011 03:57 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure it's not anything in the canon universe. Is there any DIY fluff behind it?
SCHRAMB0 - January 14, 2011 04:09 AM (GMT)
Its the obscure crusade.
Its under ground.
Its indie.
All the cool kids are in it.
Djinn - January 14, 2011 04:31 AM (GMT)
I don't think any backstory has been written about it yet, but I assume it is a crusade to bring 40k costuming out of obscurity and into the mainstream.
Which I am completely ok with.
Seraphim - January 14, 2011 07:39 AM (GMT)
There's no real story. It started as a multilingual pun on the way a costume obscures someone's identity. Though I like Djinn's take on it! If someone wants to write up something for it, go for it! It might be fun to try to incorporate everyone's costumes into some giant meta-plot. Even getting that many armies and factions in one place would be tricky...
Anggul - January 14, 2011 08:09 AM (GMT)
Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors, Imperial Guard, Black Templars, Grey Knights, Space Wolves (have I got everything?)
Random forces of the Imperium, unite! And a Thousand Son. He's here for teh lulz.
Oh, and a space elf or two...

I agree with Djinn I didnt know that there were even guys doing warhammer 40k costumes till i saw a few of you guys at Dragon*con 2010
Erus - January 14, 2011 05:51 PM (GMT)
On the bring out of obscurity bit... It would help establish the place a little for us to try and converge on conventions that are 40k hotspots in general. Gamesdays (I saw an amazing firewarrior at GD Baltimore back in '09). Adepticon, etc... That and approaching various 40k forums about banner exchanges, making sig banners to add for those of us who visit such forums (and where they allow it, of course) to help drive traffic.
And of course, continuing to go to things like SDCC and D*Con.
Kommissar - January 14, 2011 06:53 PM (GMT)
fluff wise, there is an Obscurus sector in known space..i assumed it was a crusade into that area of space.
kind of like how all the 40k rpg books are based around the calixis sector.
Cptn. Palladorus - January 14, 2011 08:38 PM (GMT)
Close. It's not a sector, it's an entire segmentum. Segmentum Obscurus is the northern segmentum, most famous for being home to the Eye of Terror, with the segmentum fortress at Cypra Mundi. Notable planets include Cadia, Fenris, Mordian, Vostroya, and at one time Caliban, and notable sectors include the Gothic Sector (BFG), Calixus Sector (Dark Heresy), and the Scarus Sector which features heavily in the Eisenhorn and Ravenor novels. Craftworld Ulthwe is also currently located in Segmentum Obscurus.

Build-up for the impending 14th Black Crusade. Gotta keep the Segmentum safe, right?

But... There's no need for a 14th Black Crusade. The 13th Black Crusade ended with Chaos capturing Cadia... like, completely.
But of course, GW retconed it, cos Throne forbid ANYTHING should be a legitimate threat <_<
Texan2012 - January 15, 2011 11:06 AM (GMT)
I just checked, Choas only took one of the planets in the Cadia system, while Cadia Prime is still under Imperial control. So, who wants to kick some tainted ass back to the warp?

Anggul - January 16, 2011 11:36 AM (GMT)
We actually won the Eye of Terror campaign...
Ya know what we got as a reward for our awesome? Eldrad got sucked into a blackstone fortress. That's like the Imperial Guard winning a campaign and Creed getting shot in the face as a reward. Fuck Games Workshop most of the time, seriously. ¬¬

wookieegunner - January 16, 2011 02:01 PM (GMT)
Actually, the Eldar got a whole new craft world. I'd think that would be a pretty good reward for a dying race.
MalleusIST - January 17, 2011 02:10 AM (GMT)
Ehe, our boy Eldrad is gonna come back. Just you all wait and see, he'll show up all bad-ass and save the Eldar in one hellatious last stand.

I heard it was dark and bitter with a slight hint of emo ;)
MalleusIST - January 17, 2011 10:02 PM (GMT)
His soul got trapped in a Blackstone Fortress, so yeah, he's now got a rather 'bad-ass' wraith-lord outfit.
Oh, try with the flamer, my spirit will stay in the spirit-stone until called back in.
Capt. - January 19, 2011 05:21 AM (GMT)
So the forces of the Imperium fight amonst themselves with the forces of Chaos looming upon us?
Pull yourselves together!!! We have a greater threat to address. This is our Space... and by the Emperor's light- it iwill always be our Space... this is the Imperium of man, and we must defend it. Now lets stop bickering and teach the tainted a lesson or two!
For The Emperor!!!

Friend Anggul, I shall use my powers to ensure that those forces under my control shall remain un-aware of the Eldar held territories.
