Whoa...
Lookin' good! Love the paint job on the imp fist!
Damn you for only updating your face book page!
A simple cut and paste here wouldn't kill you.... :)
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 10:38 AM (GMT)
And now; for those of you not of facebook-fame - here's some updates:

Specs: Height: 235cm tall - unable to use normal doors - width aprox. 170cm
Weight: Torso w. shoulders and backpack - roughly 4-6kg
At my disposal is: Bolter; Combi-flamer; Stormbolter; Power Fist; Plasma Pistol; Chainsword and Power Sword
In about 3 weeks I'll go to a danish Cosplay event, where I've made a deal with a photographer I know personally; Using smoke-machines, special effects and the lot, to make an epic photoshoot.
I really look forward to it.
Meanwhile I still have to fix minor issues with the backpack..
So - what do you people think?
Captain Arcturus - 2nd Company - April 25, 2012 10:55 AM (GMT)
Freaking awesome man! I was hoping you would post it all here when you were finished. It looks so beautiful! I love the details.
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 11:13 AM (GMT)
Thanks :) I must admit; the bit I'm most worried about is the back - since I only have that single picture as reference - sure I can look at the individual pieces when I have them on the worktable - but it's hard to get the overall picture.
What would people think about a loincloth? Too much?
I'm not sure if it would fit or not..
Render - April 25, 2012 12:00 PM (GMT)
That is amazing! :D I hope I can look half as good as that when I'm done.
How easy is it to move around in the torso part? I notices you've got a solid abdomen area and as I'm working on that region, myself, I was wondering if it was all one piece or whether it was two, etc. Also how did you get the purity seals made?
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 12:07 PM (GMT)
The torso and abdomen plates are one piece - the suit is built - pretty much like the miniatures are assembled.
Mobility is quite fine actually! The only thing that is almost impossible is raising the arms above my head - without sliding them up between shoulderplate and torso
Purity seals are made of tablecloth and red hobby clay - easily made and attached :)
The yellow does seem to crack in some places- I haven't found any permanent sealant for it..
PhoenixRevival - April 25, 2012 12:20 PM (GMT)
Amazing work, great detailing, just a few things i see that I'd nitpick... but i'm not going to because this is Fantastic!
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 12:30 PM (GMT)
Oh please nidpick! I know of several things I'd love to change - I just don't have the time nor energy to do so at the moment :)
Just - make it constructive critisism :D
It's open for commenting..
Things to remember though:
-It's 100% scratchbuilt
-Some shapes are almost impossible to get - unless you're a pro sculptor - prop designer w. vacuuformer. I did this with a craft knife, hotgluegun and determination! Nothing more - in my livingroom!
- Building a somewhat bulky, 70% truescaled marine is HARD . without getting some parts to look disproportionate..
Lamia - April 25, 2012 12:50 PM (GMT)
That is SO SEXY!
(Also? SUCKERPUNCH FTW!)
Steelhart - April 25, 2012 01:42 PM (GMT)
Wow! That looks amazing.
One nitpick that bugged me from the moment I saw it...
Checkerboard...
Doesn't that SCREAM Ork to anyone else? I looked all over the internets and found no Imperial Fists with checkerboard on them... though knowing Chewie, he will find one and usurp me.
Erus - April 25, 2012 01:47 PM (GMT)
I can't find any online pictures, but my brain is screaming the Fists use/used checkerboard too.
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 02:25 PM (GMT)
Regarding the checkerboard: I thought it looked cool, since it's one of the tactical markings I use on my own models
Facebook linky:
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-...817795006_n.jpgI am however, not certain if it's fluff accurate
Hellfrozensoul - April 25, 2012 02:36 PM (GMT)
DAMN that looks amazing! Holy carp. That is crazy.
My one and only offset was that it's so decorated everywhere except the left leg. It's relatively empty & stands out a bit for it. If you threw a seal on it, or wrapped a black chain, I dunno anything. But that's just some minor thing.
it looks amazing.
Imperial Gothic - April 25, 2012 02:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks :D
Funny enough; the left leg already have 2 oaths of purity and resolution attached

oh.. and this
Shiney - April 25, 2012 06:08 PM (GMT)
I see a clone belt :P Not a bad foamie there. In terms of talents and skills, with every project the emperor shall improve us.. and the longer we campaign and the more finicky we become.. and the longer the project takes ;)
CLOTHAR - April 25, 2012 11:11 PM (GMT)
Great paint and detailing job. It looks amazing!
Does the powerfist move? Or just static?
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 06:13 AM (GMT)
Sadly it does not - I've tried to construct a working powerfist - since I usually use my powerfists for roleplaying - and bashing stuff - ergo, its softer foam
Erus - April 26, 2012 06:46 AM (GMT)
Nice, did you add risers to the legs/feet or how does that work? That is especially the impressive part of the suit to me, which may strike you as odd, lol.
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 07:55 AM (GMT)
There's about 12cm extra in the feet soles - the boots are massive - the shoulder tops and backpack add another 25cm above my head - and I'm 200cm tall on my own.. :D
Erus - April 26, 2012 07:58 AM (GMT)
That's my next consideration as I start getting scaling/patterns worked.. I'm 5'8", so not exactly impressive as an astartes, but I dont want stilts, so I need to see how I can boost my height without making it completely off the wall.
Your suit caught the eye and approval of one of the reviewers from the Founding Fields when he was visiting btw. Loved it on FB.
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 08:04 AM (GMT)
I've learned from my previous mistakes - especially regarding the legs!
But yes; placing of the backpack, shoulders, helmet and insertion of soles - are the *natural* ways to add height - without stilts.

Deetoz - April 26, 2012 09:18 AM (GMT)
Speaking of sealing/reinforcing, I've found a danish site who is selling Plasti-Dip. I've ordered two cans of spray from them, and I'll be sealing my armor that way.
http://www.handyzone.dk/plasti_dip_spray__...r51r36t6358ga22Also, this is amazing. You've got so many different details and so on. Argh, you're setting a high standard! :D
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 11:23 AM (GMT)
Looks nice! Maybe I'll use it for my next build :P
You're more than welcome to join the upcoming event - where I'll be showcasing the Imperial Fist armour along with the Raven Guard armour :P
PhoenixRevival - April 26, 2012 12:40 PM (GMT)
Ok... Constructive nit-pic.. TAKE ONE! heh aaaaand ACTION!
h'ok so... If you look at your pictures you'll notice several bubbles (they look like air pockets) as well as some striping on the chest and pauldron. It's just my OCD kicking up and they're both TRUELY minimal. I'm not sure what material is doing it but my first instinct would be to take an x-acto knife to them. As for the stripes... I'm not honestly sure what's causing it... so like I said... Minimal nit-picky.
You did an excelent job at this! Bravo!
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 02:31 PM (GMT)
I think you're correct in your assumption that it's airpockets..
Basically; the foam was covered with black ductape - some areas, such as legs and shoulders are then covered with a modelling paste - flattened out as much as possible - without using industrial grade tools - then coloured with paint -
Since the foam is flexible - some areas appear to expand or collapse - hence, the tape either bulges out or otherwise twists - the paste breaks off ( and the paint )
This is truly sad - but - a lesson learned.

It came out great, and like i said... that's just my obsessive nature coming out. :P
Your armor is Fantasitc.
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 02:54 PM (GMT)
aaww... thanks :D Now I'm almost blushing
Which.. is.. extra heretical - it's the painglove for me..

First, have to state that I'm a foamie-noob, though what I can offer is that many people seem to be using plasti-dip [or truck-tray spray] as a top coating over the foam.
Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 03:38 PM (GMT)
Yes I recently read about it - I've been looking for it - and apparently my fellow Danish O.C member Deetoz has found a site from DK where one can buy it!
so.... untill next time foam!!
Deetoz - April 26, 2012 07:36 PM (GMT)
I'm expecting my Plastidip to arrive tomorrow. I'm not 100% sure on the website's legitimacy, so I'll let you know if it's good or not.

Imperial Gothic - April 26, 2012 08:20 PM (GMT)
I'll look forward to hearing about the plasti-dip!
:)
oh - and MacKnight - I take it that's meant in a positive way? ;)

That's a really sweet suit!
What have you build it from? And where did you get the supplies from in Denmark?
I find i hard to find proper materials :)
Greetings
Junkie fisken
Imperial Gothic - April 29, 2012 01:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks :)
Well first off; it's built on top of the remains of my old deathwatch suit - mostly the shoulders - since the torso and legs got recycled into something else ( fantasy chaos armour ) So I had to make torso, thighs, legs, boots and backpack all from scratch.
It's basically foammats, campmats - the thick/dense variant - lots of faith and ducttape! Also foam tubes for electrical insulation - and maybe the odd cardboard thingy here or there. ( I have a depot, filled with things I gathered over the years; tubes, helmets, wires, buttons, boxes, guns, swords, the lot) So I always try to add details via .. random stuff!
I never plan ahead - I have a vision of what I'd like - and then I enter a state of flow - hours later, I end up with.. something I can use!
I just go with what seems natural and get carried away. One of my friends just sat there.. for hours, his eyes open and amazed - expressing that he did not understand how the F*** I do it..
Be prepared for trial and error though! Lot's of hotglue, craftknives and ductape..
oh.. and inspiration! And YES, Denmark offers a very.. limited selection of the stuff you hear about here on the OC
junkie_fisken - April 29, 2012 04:23 PM (GMT)
Thank you for your answers :)
Just one last thing for now, how did you do the helmet ? :)
Imperial Gothic - April 29, 2012 09:44 PM (GMT)
The (two) helmets are relics of old. Made in a very limited number (6 original models - 50 recasts) by a SFX company back in the 1980 - to be used in a series of short movies, produced by Games Workshop..
these suits and lifesize replicas were on display in warhammer world once - today the remaining replicas feature in various GW shops all over the world - Some were given as personal gifts to employees or sold off in auctions.. Most however, either went missing or - more likely found their place unto a dusty shelf in a GW shop..
:)
junkie_fisken - April 29, 2012 09:54 PM (GMT)
Dude seriously, how the f... did you get those xD
That's damn lucky ^^ Or pricey xD
Erus - April 29, 2012 10:34 PM (GMT)
I had the blood angels banner from that same run of things.. I regret selling it every day I think on it. Awesome to see it still about, I almost snagged a space wolf SM helmet similar back last year.
