Description: Tell us about yourself!
Seraphim - September 28, 2009 01:14 AM (GMT)
Welcome to the Obscurus Crusade board, everyone! Tell us a bit about yourself- your name, what other boards and websites you visit, your army, your interests, what costume you've always wanted to make, and anything else you deem important. If you've already started cosplaying, post a picture of yourself in costume!
I'll start off:
Name: Alison
Alternate handles: SisterofSilence, Vividwings
Other boards: Bolter and Chainsword, Black Library forums,
Age: 19
Army: none
Costumes: Inquisitor, Saint Sabbat

Adrastos - September 28, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)

Seraphim - September 28, 2009 02:02 AM (GMT)
Welcome to the board, Daniel! I'm working on a Commissar costume, too, so hopefully there will be some tutorials up on the subject soon. If you want help staying motivated, make a thread for your costume in the IG section and post your progress. What regiment are you thinking of?
Daitou - September 28, 2009 03:39 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure of the regiment, but it's likely going to be based on Commissar Holt's costume from the old Final Liberation game. If I were pressed, I'd say Valhallan - it would explain why I'm sweating like like crazy when it's above freezing.
Seraphim - September 28, 2009 03:59 AM (GMT)
Ooh, I know Commissar Holt. :) If you go Valhallan, look at the covers of the Ciaphas Cain books- they have some good Valhallan-influenced commissar art.

Name: Jack
Alternate handles: Entlassen, Big0Jack (my old Westwood online name. ah, the glory days)

Costume: Inquisitor Baraborus, I am also in the works on a Guardsmens outfit and I would Love to do a few others.

Welcome, Richard! Have you seen Kaaskop's How to Make a Space Marine costume guide? It's a great place to start, if you haven't already.
richardlynch77 - October 2, 2009 03:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've seen Kaaskop's guide, some excellent stuff there. Between his guide and a few tips I've picked up on the Star-wars based 501st and the Halo-based 405th websites, I'm hoping to make 3 full suits by this Halloween.
Just 'slightly' ambitious :P

No plans right now, I'll mostly be lurking. I had grandiose impressions of doing a 'marine, but it's on hold for now.

Hey there Daniel, it was me who pointed you to our lil' forums, glad you've come for a look.
I noticed a few different 40k costumes in your gallery and I thought it'd be great to get some insight from someone who has been 40k cosplaying/LARPing for a while. Hope you like the look of what you see :)

Welcome, Robert! I never even started an army- I just started reading the books at was hooked on the fluff, so you're not alone in that regard.

Hi there Macewolf, welcome to the forum!!
I must say that the whole fluff/novels side of the whole hobby.... but it only just pips the converting and painting of models. totally love that too. I also like the game and pretty much every aspect of the hobby, but the novels are my fav :)
Maybe you could invest your next $400 in cosplay and show us the results :P

hey all. came here from boot camp, thought you guys could help me with a pet project = inquisitor maxwell von ressnov. i started this idea becuase every year my high schools video game club goes to megacon (large gaming/manga convention. to my suprise i saw people playing 40k/space hulk.
all i really need for the costume is a big grey coat, a staff, and a holster (staffs are ok, other weapons are banned unless purchased on site - they have foam mauls, barbarian style)
think you guys and gals could help me? megacon is in march and i want my first costuming event to be coolness personified.

Welcome to the Obscurus Crusade, Inquisitor!
We can help you- just drop on by the Inquisition section if you haven't already, and start asking questions! :)
(btw, very few people's first costumes are really good. It's possible, but it's really, really hard. You should have seen my first inquisitor costume... NOT the one that's posted in here. ^^;)

It also really depends on how close you cut it time-wise. If you start a year early, it's going to be way better than if you start it a month before con.
My first inquisitor costume was started probably in February or March, for a Con in May. My second one was on and off from the end of con until the beginning of con the next year, and it turned out WAY better.

Ah... yeah, not so much with the GW-themed costumes. I have to finish the costume for the Gypsy Prince LRP character I've been playing for 6yrs first!
That said, I have some experience in (non-cosplay) costuming, as well as 13-14 years steeped in the 40k fluff, so I'm happy to give advice on either!
For my credentials, I provide such:

Steampunk LRP costume- that's a Games Master ribbon pinned to my lapel.

Fantasy LRP costume.
My replacement chainmaille is brass, I think (hand-me-down). It just needs a few more links added around the neck (so it doesn't sag around the shoulders) before I'd call it wearable. I also finished the ring-armor bracer which only has two lines of rings in that photo.
Seraphim - October 22, 2009 01:41 AM (GMT)
Cool steampunk costume, but I think you got your pics mixed up- they both are the same pic, at least to me.
