As you may know, a virus is a deadly protein-based organism that takes control of cells in order to reproduce itself. The reproductions do the same, and if left untreated, it will eventually destroy the human body.

"The Bite" as it's called, has mild, flu-like symptoms, and that's what it was mistaken for in the beginning, but as they continued to laugh and play, the virus was slowly turning them insane.

Those who've contracted the virus became highly paranoid, blaming others for the slightest things; they became furious at minor occurences and many ended up murdering others, others yet decided to commit suicide. Some would lock themselves in their rooms and mumble nonsense for days while the virus rapidly reproduced inside of them, destroying the carrier from the inside...

THE ANTIVIRUS:

The antivirus is an artificial white blood cell that fights the virus. It's ill-effects are a small price to pay when it rids you of what suffering was brought from the original virus. It flows through the bloodstream, expanding arteries and turning the blood thick and dark. Those who have taken it are marked this way with large veins visible on their face and hands.
Due to the effects on the bloodstream, those with the antivirus require a more heated environment since their blood doesn't flow as freely, and if exposed to temperatures under average body temperature (98.6 F) for an extended period of time, they will freeze to death. To their advantage, however, they need much less food and can go for days without eating.

Is this a cure or a heavier burden to bear?

You'll be the judge of that.
