Another big tournament is on the Horizon? Who are we all supporting? England is not in it but to be honest im not much of fan of the national team, I'm more of a club man Arsenal is my team.

I'll be rooting for Holland, my older brother always had a soft spot for them with Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Gullit and Bergkamp in the past and the affection rubbed off on me, I remember my first ever top was the Dutch Italia 90 Shirt that my cousin sent over from Rotterdam so

HUP HOLLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a fan of Holland since 1988, since i saw them beat the Russians in the euro final 2-0, Van batsen and rud gullit were amazing. Since then i have been dying for them to win a competition and they have been disappointing me always losing in penalty kicks. Since the 70's they have had great players and they have not delivered, recently they had denis bergkamp, overmars, davids, frank reikjard the Deboer brothers, kooman....
I was disappointed by their last team in the world cup, Van basten as a coach is making them play more italian style (defensive) than dutch style (offensive). They used to always keep te ball with them 70% possession time but not score as they had few scorers, now they have great scorers but with Van Basten's coaching and style of play the ball is not getting to these scorers.
I am hoping this summer they will deliver.
I ALWAYS ROOT FOR THE DUTCH and i will be wearing ORANGE this summer.

I was gutted when Holland didn't win in 98 especially after Bergkamp's wonder goal in the quarter finals

HHEEHEH love the commentary from the Dutch commentator

It was a crime the Dutch team didn't win the World Cup in the 70's as well, like Hungary in 1954.

cool.gif Ah we have a holland fan club overhere! As i surely wear orange this European Championship! wink.gif
And yes we should have won in 1998 and 2000. ninja.gif Blasted penalty shoot outs...

I have too admit the dutch played not a great tournament in 2006.

However it seems that Van Basten has finaly find a good mix of players the last 3 games. Last saturday they played against Ukraine, the nr 32 on the fifa ranking list. And while it was it was friendly, we trashed them old school with 70% ball posssion. With a score in the break of 2-0 ( Kuyt and Huntelaar) It ended 3-0 in the end, with barely a chance for ukraine. ( And we missed Van der Sar and Sneijder)
We played a sort of 4-2-3-1 formation with Van der Vaart as the number 10. And i have some hopes he can be the starplayer of this team at euro 2008. The way he played was perhaps as brilliant as Bergkamp in his glory days.

I sincerely hope that we will survive the first round as we face the Italians and the french in the first two games. And while we have a team who can match those Spagheti-eaters and les blues., ur never sure. However if we survive the first round u never know cool.gif

Well, and then my favorite deployment for Orange this summer 4-2-3-1

Goal: Van der Sar
Defense (from right to left) Ooijer, Heitinga, Van Bronckhorst, De Cler
Defensive Midfielders: De Zeeuw, Sneijder (or Engelaar, who debuted well last game)
Attacking midfielders (From R to L) Van Persie, Van der Vaart, Affelay (or Robben)
Forward: Van Nistelrooy

Hup Oranje, Laat de leeuw niet in z'n hempie staan!!!!!!!!!

The Dutch are in the 'Group of Death' along with favourites France and Italy and the Romanians are not bad either. Honestly I think the Dutch won't qualify the Defence looks vulnerable if they can somehow hold then the Excellent young attacking players have a chance especially with the Gunner Van Persie.

Thinking with my head, my money is on Zee Germans sad.gif

Greece all the way!!!

Ok, they suck, but! that makes what they did in 2004 even more amazing. Beating Portugal twice in their own country, and even France with Zidane and Henri.

edit: and yes, winning the cup in the end laugh.gif

Yeah Greece winning the last one was a total surprise, they didn't play great football but hell they're weren't a powerhouse in world football so fair play. Greece vs Turkey would be tasty if they meet.

heheheeh yeah seen that one before

'Beckenbauer obviously a bit of a suprise there' and 'Marx claiming offside' laugh.gif
and great header by Socrates, just hope he was drinking champagne at the end and not hemlock.

Best game of the tournament so far and the Italians played well to be fair but the Dutch were awesome on the counter-attack.

The Germans looked good as expected as did the Portuguese but the French were most disappointing, no passion or drive and they face the Dutch next. Today is Russia vs Spain and Sweden vs Greece and Sweden games are particularly good as they spend more time showing the Swedish ladies than the actual game heeheheheh.

But now my small hangover is gone, and im back in the real world...

3-0 vs the worldchampions!!!!

Even the most optimistic orange fans didn't expect that. Awesome!!! Are we dreaming or what?

If we keep on playing this way we can have a great tournament!
