Ok well have you seen the population and size of China and India? Ok they are using up a lot of resources, but look at how poor they are in comparison to America. Both are only just getting back up on their feet. Most of the energy is going to factories in order to earn any kind of living. It's bad enough as it is in factories, so what are we gonna do, shut them down? This is as bad as Japan saying how China is OMGSH A HUGE THREAT! Even though USA and Japan have many high-tech weapons and heck, the US almost launched those in the Cold War!
And those are big bosses and companies who don't care about their workers anyway who are creating unemployment. You can't expect China and India to go, "We are not taking you jobs so your workers can save their own skins." At least we actually have benefits here, I don't know about India but China don't have any at all. As much as I love Chinese food, I think I would rather be unemployed in the UK rather than in Chinese, don't you agree? No quite frankly I don't care about the govt. tapping in to my phone as I have no terrorist plans to talk about (except for spiteing teachers, but those aren't bombs or knives etc.), although I'd rather they didn't. I was making the point that it was illegal but the US are still doing it, yet it is illegal to help their own people when it is not asked for by that state and they feel no concern for this. Hmm. Perhaps that was a bad example but I can't think of another one. People commute on the train because it's a) a very long way b ) probably better than cars. In fact, train is even more expensive than car, so they're probably making a sacrifice, concsiously or unconcsiously. Yes, we shouldn't be using a car, damn I shouldn't be using a car, but since I'm living at home, I've been banned from taking the DVD player on the bus and I've been banned from walking home from tutor classes. Probably because of the news-rape, knifing, robbery as well. And I think that is the case for many, many people, especially kids. It's a HUGE dilema. I agree-we shouldn't produce so much waste. We should be walking, taking the bus etc. But the UK Govt. have privatised their bus services, or they did or something like that, and now the bus fares are actually quite expensive in some areas. Around my area it's £1.20 return to town, and that's more expensive than getting the car. How are people going to be persuaded to catch the bus with fees so high? No people are going to be getting the car out. Hopefully when I get out of the house, I will have enough money to get the bus rather than investing in a car, but who knows? I still think the govt. in the UK are possibly doing more than the US-the US can't even be bothered to sign contracts etc. And yes, the UK is probably still wasting a lot. But then maybe you know more about this. -------------------- |

my cars japanese and made under liscence in india it was indias top selling car in 2002 does 70 mpg my pension is mostly being invested in china, lets face it china and india have got a massive industrial boom on like we had many years ago without the crap unions messing everything up and in 20 years they will be telling us how to look after the enviroment, even bush is thinking about it these days, i'd rather buy something made in india or china than the u.s or europe, lets face it the workers seem a bit more competent than most of the "developed world" anyone who's owned a french car will tell you that!
go for it developing world, after all a decent volcanic eruption puts more pollutants into the atmosphere than people ever have! -------------------- its all just another coincidence!

According to whatever newspaper it was I was reading on holiday, we're already past the point where carbon dioxide etc. are going to destroy the environment. The ice caps are melting faster, polar bears are becoming endangered, bush is starting to think 'oops' and things are all going wrong already. Add that to all the war and so on and it almost makes me feel like believing what the scary christian man told me about the end of the world. Except without all the 'god.' Lakes of fire here I come. So now I'm going by the idea from the Dilbert book (the Future one I lent you Ltz). Humans want to survive, are fairly intelligent and therefore most likely will, unless something like the supervolcano thing goes off. So if it looks like there'll be flooding and misery, someone will probably try to sort it all out. Though chances are they'll make an even bigger mess... And my selfish, fatalistic philosophy of I should be dead before it gets to serious and if it looks bad I just won't have kids. *shrugs* I still turn lights and the tv and everything off though. If I can do something about it all I may as well. Die with your boots on. The other thing I wonder about is is all this publicity of war in Iraq and climate change and bird flu and terrorism just designed to stop us thinking about what's actually wrong on our doorsteps, the stuff we might actually be able to help a bit with. *shrugs* Obviously not entirely, but it does stop us thinking about crime and abuse and rape and chavs for a while anyway.
Hehe someone read the english paper throughoughly Isn't this topic meant to be about Iraq? Maybe I missed something here... -------------------- (\__/)

Sorry it sort of went off topic to go off on to a whole tanget. But technically, some of it is related, like Bush being a prat over just about everything.
If that was a sarcy remark, I hate to differ but it's true. At least we have pedestrian crossings here. Unfortunately most of the people who use it are youths who have friends in the neighbourhood and anyone coming home from the pub, and perhaps occasionaly the little walkies. Hmm. Anyway, if Britain is really doing not-alot-at-all, at least they are pretentiously instilling in to the minds of the people that polution IS a bad thing, not like half the American scientists who think it's actually good. *rolls eyes* As for the Iraq war, they claim they are going to be out soon. Anyone want to place bets on whether that'll happen anytime soon or not? -------------------- |

Apparently, George Bush has admitted that he regretted not finding any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, serves him right now, because Obama is in and things will not be quite the same as before....
