I first did with ME2... wait, maybe TF2? I bought some stuff from the Mann Co. Store, if that counts.
TF2 does DLC right - nothing they produce alters the gameplay. No unlockable weapon is a direct upgrade from the original - a person with a completely stock setup is at no disadvantage in the game itself. Every game-changing item can be found free through drops or rented from the Mann Co. Store, also for free. The only thing they charge for is cosmetic items... but they're cool enough that you want to buy them anyways.
It completely avoids the pitfalls of pay-to-win microtransactions, and the game is so much better for it.

Judging by each article they do the main DLC offenders are Crapcom and Activision, lol.

That's the norm for most MMO games these days. Keep the main game free, charge players when they want to get a little extra enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, but a lot of that "extra enjoyment" offers a gameplay advantage - in that, if you DON'T pay, you'll be at a disadvantage. The only disparity between a new player of TF2 and an old one is experience.

I've never Ever Downloaded a DLC, but from what i've seen, it's very rarely worth the money~
Now, an Extra Character for the Next Smash Bros would be something i'd totally Pay for~

lol I meant cosmetic changes can be 'extra enjoyment' too if done correctly.
