Gaven stands on the dock, his backpack slung over his shoulder as he observs the large, glass building that is the Midamis Center. A lump was in his throat as he watched the building shimmer in the sunlight, thinking about how his father had once stepped foot on this very dock. With a deep sigh, Gaven set forth towards the building. All sorts of thoughts rushed through his head, most about if he found his father. As much as he wanted to find the man, he wasn't sure how he would react to finding him.
He also thought about the Pokémon in this new region, how he had no knowledge of them from the Pokémon Academy in Violet City. The Pokémon of Johto might be found here as well, but the Pokémon indigenous to Midamis excited him much more. "What sorts of starters will they have available? Heck, what sorts of Pokémon will I find on my way to the next town?" Gaven thought in his head as he got up to the Midamis Center. -------------------- |

Upon entering the lab, Gaven was met with a hurried Professor Rue. The professor noticed the budding young trainer and tossed him the Pokéball dispenser orb, "Pyrall, Florcoon, Aquaff, you know the deal, kid," The professor said as he indicated the three colored sections on the sphere. Rue ruffled through papers, obviously searching for something. Books and folders were strewn about the lobby of the lab, very likely by Rue's frantic hunt. "Just pick one and get out of my lab. I'm a busy man."

Gaven swallowed hard, hoping for a friendlier response from Professor Rue. But there was no point in trying to argue with the man. He was obviously swamped with work and had no time to swindle on issues such as a new trainer. Clutching the colorful orb in his hands, Gaven thought hard about which starter he should choose. He was fond of the Fire starter back in Johto Region, but he had no reference of the starters for Midamis. He took a deep breath, talking to himself.
"Well, there's only one way to really do this." With that, Gaven tosses the orb into the air, letting it fall back down into his hands. He slaps the top, pressing in the blue section and waits to see what will happen. -------------------- |

In a blue flash, a small bipedal cow appeared on the floor next to you. It had two little horns and light blue fur. The orb disappeared in your hands, and was replaced by a set of smart red Pokéballs and a small red object with a flip-top labelled Pokédex. It suddenly sprang to life as it sensed the cow Pokémon near it, speaking in a harsh tone.
Aquaff, the Water Buffalo Pokémon. Aquaff loves ramming into buildings to strengthen itself. A great fighter in both the water and on land, Aquaff and its evolutions are known for their Water Pulses which they send from the orb in the middle of their stomach. Aquaff, hearing the noise, jumped up and down, trying to swot the little red Pokédex. Once it had realised it was too small to reach, it let out a quiet mooing sound and sat in a sulk next to your feet, it's head turned in the opposite direction. -------------------- |

Gaven chuckles as he watches the Aquaff jump after the Pokédex.
"Thank you Rue. I am most grateful."When it slumps down to sulk at his feet, the young trainer bends down, scooping up his starter. He gently rocks the Aquaff as he exits the lab, holding up his Pokédex for it to observe. "Was this what you were trying to get at?"Gaven watches his new starter, names flowing through his head as what to call it. He wanted a name that would represent his Pokémon well. Eyes scanning over his starter until a name finally got into his head. "How about we name you...Suigyuu?" -------------------- |

The nely christened Suigyuu yawned widely and observed you from beneath sleepy lids. He emitted a faint whine, then lapsed into a tranquil slumber.
Rue observed the beginnings of yet another sacred bond between Pokemon and trainer. After a respectful period of waiting, he gently put a hand on your back and steered yoiu outside. His previous gruffness seemingly vanished when he saw the love that blossomed when you and Aquaff had laid eyes on eachother. THe automatic doors of Midamis Center opened and closed with a whoosh, signalling the beginning of yet another journey into the wilderness for a boy and his Pokemon. The desert stetched before you, blindingly bright after the relative gloom of the lab, but the sky was blue, the breeze was cool, and Aquaff was snuggled deep in your arms. What could possibly go wrong? The answer came barreling across the sand at an uncanny speed and smashed into your legs, sending you tumbling over and jarring Suigyuu from his nap. A small, orange creature with a massive nose and beady little eyes glared at you. "Ra! Rabolt!" it screeched. |

(A small issue of continuity with what you posted, but still an overall good post. I didn't know Rue could be such a softie.
Gavin lifts Aquaff into the air as he falls forward, keeping his starter safe from the impact. He hits the sand, feeling the grainy terrain scrape at his skin with the impact. Slowly bringing his head out of the sand, Gavin coughs out some sand. He sets Aquaff down, taking notice of the Pokémon that had bowled him over. Reaching into his pack, he removed the PokéDex and aimed it at the pointy nosed menace. A mechanical voice chimes from the device. Rabolt, the rabid Pokémon. Rabolts are very hyped up pokémon; though relatively fragile, they are often feared by trainers for the fact that they will go beyond the bitter end in battle, damaging themselves as much as the opponent to lay a hit. "Looks like we've got a battler here, Suigyuu," Gavin says, putting the PokéDex away. He spits out more sand as he rises to his feet, groaning lightly as a little pain shoots through his body. Giving himself a quick dusting, the trainer locks his eyes on the rabid Pokémon. "Alright, start off with a Leer. That should level the playing field a bit. If it tries to strike, dodge it if you can and strike with Pound. I know you can do this." Despite the gritty feeling coating his mouth and the slight pain, Gavin was able to focus on the battle that was about to begin. -------------------- |

Suigyuu leaped forwards, fully awake now. The Rabolt glared at him, eyes narrowed, ready for battle. Suigyuu sneered back, and the Rabolt backed off a bit, frightened by the intensity of Suigyuu's leering face. Your Aquaff took the Rabolt's slight falter to dash forwards and connect solidly with his hoof.
The Rabolt rolled over in the sand, but recovered quickly and got back to its feet. Suigyuu lunged forwards, trying to attack again, but the Rabolt agiley side-stepped and merely bumped into your Pokemon as he flew by, using your Aquaff's forwards momentum to send him sprawling. This time Suigyuu was the one who came up spitting sand, fire burning in his eyes. Once again, the Rabolt took a step backwards, schocked by the intensity of your Aquaff. Your Pokemon seized its chance. There was a blue blur, a sickening crunch, and the Rabolt collapsed into the sand, unconcious. Suigyuu defeated the wild Rabolt! Suigyuu grew to level 6, and learned Bubble! |

Gaven swoops down, scooping his Aquaff into his arms, holding him up in celebration.
"That was great work you did there, Suigyuu! I'm very impressed. And adding a new move to your arsenal, you'll be an even tougher opponent."Gaven takes a moment, looking at the defeated Rabolt laying in the sand. Yes, the rabid Pokémon fainted rather quickly, but there was need to capture more Pokémon in case something were to happen to Gaven's dear Aquaff. With that, he grabs an empty Poké Ball from his belt, expanding it, and casting it out towards the unconcious Rabolt. "Poké Ball, go!" -------------------- |
