with weakened beliefs
The month has turned, and the five students are still missing; they are believed to be held by Death Eaters, though where is yet to be uncovered. Information sources are as dry as a desert, and time is getting on: are they even still alive?
The rest of the United Kingdom is held by a dark grip; it may be April, but the spring blossom has yet to appear, with unnatural fog and premature darkness coating the countries. It is as everyone fears -- the power of Lord Voldemort is growing, with seemingly nothing to stand in his way.

remember those memories lost a first war rpgThe month is September, and the Marauders and their fellow students are enjoying the first term of their last year at Hogwarts - most of them are, at any rate. The smell of betrayal and the breaking of strong friendships hangs thick in the air after the final month of school, though time will only tell if those bonds can be reforged in the upcoming school year. The marauders are fragmented after Severus Snape was tipped off by Sirius Black as to what was happening in the Shrieking Shack, and it almost cost the greasy-haired Slytherin boy his life, had James Potter not stepped in and rescued him.
James is in the middle - torn between his best friend, Remus, and his 'brother', Sirius. He has been frantically trying to keep up ties with both, and has been trying to play the 'middle man' by keeping their friendships hanging by a thread, though he doesn't know as of yet whether he'll be able to pull the Marauders back together. His friends mean the world to him, and he doesn't want to see such friendships fail before his own eyes. Sirius has always been like a brother to him, though James was horrified at what he did to Remus - sickened, even, but he refuses to abandon either of them.
Not yet; not ever. Not until death tears him from their company.
The students are protected by Hogwarts, and by their great Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Not all have the protection of powerful enchantments to guard them; the rest of the country is on tenderhooks as they scour the Daily Prophet for any sign of what the Dark wizards are planning. Whatever news filters through to the reporters is delayed, and misguided; the Ministry is trying to calm the country, but their advise is falling upon deaf ears. Many students and adults alike have been noticing the strange disappearances gripping the country. No bodies have been found, and yet so many have been taken. No one is safe; will it be today that you return home from work, and find the Dark Mark lingering above your house, leering at you, mocking your loss?
So many have been murdered.
The country has never fallen to the hands of a Dark wizard before, though Surely, these disappearances will stop. Surely, Voldemort cannot be as much of a threat as everyone is saying.
Right?
Dumbledore read the signs first, noticed the disappearances when they first began happening a year ago. He formed a secret group of people he held in the highest regard. Aurors, such as Alastor Moody, and Frank and Alice Longbottom formed the first members; their skill and knowledge aided Dumbledore in stopping the murder of Dawlish and Proudfoot. A few of his teachers, Minerva McGonagall included, have realised that the Headmaster is the only one to stand in Voldemort's way, and have proudly decided to stand by him. The Prewett brothers joined, despite their sister's pleas to stay safe. The great Dumbledore has brought them into a group - a very secret group, named the Order of the Phoenix. The group is what stands between Voldemort and the wizarding world.
Many have heard that such a group exists, but few more are joining. They are already so fearful of their life that they are scared to bring any more attention to themselves. The Order needs members, as current information shows that the Death Eaters outnumber them vastly. They need help, but there's no one left to turn to. The Aurors have tried persuading their colleagues, but it is not wise to speak so openly about the Order; you never know who lurks around the corner, who serves the Dark Lord.
They are few in number, but they have Dumbledore, the only man he ever feared.
Times are getting darker as the marauders enter their 7th year, and the fear that has gripped the country is forcing many a student to mature faster than is wise. The time will come for them to stand and be counted.
That time is nearing.
One will stand beside James and his future wife as best man and best friend. One will sell the Potters to the Dark Lord, and betray his friend of seven years. One will lose all three friends for twelve long years. Two will die, and leave their son.
It is time for them to stand and be counted. So much death, so much pain; so many are changing, for better or for worse. So many grow closer, united against this one, evil front; so many distance themselves, fearful to trust any. So many are hurting. So many will not live. Those who fall at the hand of the Dark Lord will fade away to become mere memory. Those memories will in turn fade, like dust in the rain, only to be washed away.
Not all hope is lost. Not all memories are lost. Remember them now. Remember those who died, who suffered, who cried. Remember the survivors of the first war, and remember those whose bones have long since turned to dust. Remember a world of suspicion and trust, of despair and hope, of hatred and love. Remember those memories lost.
