Match of 2nd November 1976
Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff
"Madam Hooch blows the whistle, and they're off! The Quaffle is in play, taken immediately by Potter, who passes to Groves; Groves passes back to Potter, who passes to Clark -- who is hit by a Bludger, which seems to be delivered from Cauldwell. Clark drops the Quaffle, and it's snatched up by Jackson, who passes to Dearborn -- ooh! He drops the Quaffle, not quite sure why, but Potter's in possession now, he's coming towards the goals, he's darting from side to side -- cover all your rings Jones! Potter shoots, and HE SCORES! The first goal of the match. Gryffindor lead by ten points.
"And Clark's in possession again, she's coming towards the goals, she shoots, but it's blocked by Jones. Jones passes to Branstone, but Groves has darted in front, and has taken possession. Potter in possession now, Groves again, Potter, Groves -- Groves shoots, and she scores! Gryffindor lead twenty points to zero.
"It's Jackson again, who's speeding towards the Gryffindor hoops, she's nearing them -- where are the Gryffindor Beaters? There's Black, he takes aim, and... ooh! It's hit the crowds! A Slytherin by the looks of it. You're playing against Hufflepuff today, Black! Potter doesn't seem bothered by this bad aim, as he pauses to do -- is that a little dance? Oh, he's not dancing any more, Jackson has just scored! Potter comes to intercept the Quaffle, but Branstone gets it, and puts it through the hoops again. Vance passes it to Clark, who turns and heads towards the goal posts, but she's stopped by a Bludger. Branstone in possession again, now Jackson, Dearborn, Jackson, and Branstone who scores! Hufflepuff lead, thirty to twenty.
"Hufflepuff in possession again, going for another goal -- what's that? Has Kroft spotted the snitch? She goes into a dive, closely followed by Lourdes, they're neck and neck -- the Gryffindor team don't seem to have noticed that Hufflepuff are scoring! Vance blocks a goal, but lets in another two. Hufflepuff lead fifty to twenty, but it could be all over! Kroft is pulling ahead of Lourdes, it looks like it's all going to be over, but OOH! A Bludger has just struck her in the back of the head! She's fallen off her broom -- good job she was so close to the ground! Lourdes is closing in on the Snitch, but he's smacked in the face by a Bludger sent by Finnigan. He's recovers quickly, but the Snitch is long gone. Gryffindor Captain Potter seems to be signalling for a time out. Madam Hooch blows her whistle, but Black isn't paying any attention, who has just sent a Bludger right at Caudwell, the Beater that knocked Gryffindor's Seeker off her broom. Caudwell is struck in the face, and falls off his broom -- ooh, that's got to be thirty feet! Looks like Madam Hooch isn't happy, she's signalling furiously to Black, who is the last one to land on the ground. Caudwell isn't waking up yet -- he's being taken to the hospital wing by the looks of things. And yes, Hooch has awarded Hufflepuff a penalty. The Gryffindor team quickly mount, their Seeker looking a little worse for the wear, and head towards their hoops; the Hufflepuffs are in the air now, and it looks like Dearborn is going to take penalty. He shoots, and he scores! Hufflepuff lead sixty to twenty.
"Jackson in possession, Dearborn, he's struck by a Bludger from Finnigan, and it's Potter now, Clark, Potter in possession, who shoots, but is blocked! He shoots again, and he scores! Ten points to Gryffindor. Groves in possession, she doesn't pass but scores instead! Another ten points to Gryffindor. Groves again, Potter goes to receive a pass but is struck by a Bludger from Hufflepuff's remaining Beater, who is then hit by Black. He's alright though, and Hufflepuff are in possession. Branstone, now Jackson, Branstone again, Dearborn in possession, passes to Branstone who scores! Hufflepuff are steaming ahead, with seventy points to forty!
"Potter now, Groves, Clark, Groves again, a reserve pass to Potter, who shoots -- but it's blocked! Groves catches it, and shoots -- and scores! Gryffindor are closing in on Hufflepuff.
"Dearborn now, he goes to pass -- oh, it's a bluff! Finnigan has hit a Bludger to Jackson, who is hit on the shoulder by it. She hasn't received the Quaffle though -- Dearborn still has it, and he shoots -- it's blocked! Well done Vance, that was a good bloc- Oh, he's tried again, and he's succeeded. Hufflepuff lead eighty points to fifty.
"The game's getting dirty now. A Bludger from Black is hit away by Hopkins -- the Bludger hits Vance straight on, and she's knocked off her broom. Potter tries to get another time out, but Madam Hooch isn't letting him. He tackles Jackson to get the Quaffle off her, and Hufflepuff are awarded a penalty. Black has dismounted his broom for some reason -- he's dragging Vance back onto her broom, gives her what looks like a kiss, and the two soar back into the air. Hurry up you two, Hufflepuff have scored twice in your absence!
"Gryffindor aren't having any of this by the looks of it. The three Chasers are a blur as they stream towards the Hufflepuff goals. Clark shoots first, and scores; they grab the Quaffle again, and a further two goals are put through by Groves and Potter. It's one hundred to eighty to Hufflepuff, but Gryffindor aren't giving up. Potter in possession now, but Dearborn is close behind him. Finnigan hits a Bludger towards the Hufflepuff Chaser, but he dodges it -- the Bludger hits Potter instead, who drops the Quaffle. It's grabbed by both Clark and Dearborn. Dearborn kicks her in the face, and takes the Quaffle -- Madam Hooch isn't have any of that, though! Penalty to Gryffindor. Potter takes it, and he scores, only just though! Another Bludger hits him on the back of the head, sent by Hopkins -- Black and Finnagin have both sent Bludgers towards the Hufflepuff Beater; she hits one away, but the other strikes, and she's knocked off her broom.
"With no Beaters, it doesn't look good for Hufflepuff. Groves scores, bringing things level -- it's one hundred a piece! Come on Hufflepuff, you can win this! It's Jackson again, who puts the Quaffle through the Gryffindor goals -- their Keeper is still looking a little stunned. Dearborn scores, but the Quaffle is caught by Clark. She passes to Groves, but Jackson manages to take possession again, but it's blocked by Gryffindor Keeper. The score one hundred and twenty to one hundred in Hufflepuff's favour. Potter in possession, who takes the Quaffle all the way down the pitch to score, bringing Gryffindor to one hundred and ten. They're still behind Hufflepuff, but things are looking up. Potter is still in possession, he doesn't seem to be letting go of the Quaffle. Gryffindor Beaters are close around him, keeping the Hufflepuff Chasers away. He throws the Quaffle -- right at the Hufflepuff Keeper! He's turning to the Beaters, and sending them away, but it's too late. Hufflepuff are in possession, Branstone has the Quaffle, and he passes to Jackson just as a Bludger hits him. Jackson scores another goal for Hufflepuff, bringing the score to one hundred and thirty to one hundred and ten. It's so close now!
"Hufflepuff are on a roll, though, and they're not letting go of the Quaffle. Dearborn scores again -- where are the Gryffindor Beaters? If they don't get their act together, Hufflepuff are going to win! Another goal from Jackson. She goes to score again, but a Bludger smacks her in the face, and she drops the Quaffle. Clark in possession, but she drops it. Dearborn now and -- ooh! Kroft has shot off towards the other end of the pitch, practically hitting Groves. She weaves around the goal posts, snaking up them, blocking Vance. Lourdes is right behind her, and they're snaking through the goal posts, following the Snitch. Kroft has chosen the wrong time to spot the Snitch -- she rams into Vance, and Dearborn takes advantage and scores! Another ten points to Hufflepuff, making the score one hundred and sixty to one hundred and ten. Lourdes is still on the Snitch's tail, his hand is outstretched -- has he got it? Kroft has untangled herself from the Gryffindor Keeper, and is chasing after the Hufflepuff Seeker. They're neck and neck now... She rams into him, and her hand is stretching out. He's pushing back against her, he's ahead of her now, but a Bludger hit from Finnigan strikes him on the back of the head. Kroft takes advantage and Gryffindor catch the Snitch! The match is over!"
Gryffindor win with 260 points to 160
