Kingdom of Cilivia (Seal-live-e-a)
Cilivia has always been a quaint, quiet kingdom in England - One with friendly people and a fair legal system. Well, that was all until recently when the loyal King Aberth died. The little town of Cilivia has never been the same since. Aberth's son, Louis, took over the kingdom. Something he'd anticipated for such a long time. No one really liked Louis, not even Aberth at times, but since Louis was the first born, he'd automatically reign over the kingdom. Louis was a fowl mouthed, undeniably large man who only believed in two things: Power and money. Upon being King, Louis gathered all the young maidens in Cilivia, who were of age eighteen. He selected four out of the bunch, one of them being Kathleen Ayers, the daughter of a farmer. Kathleen was beautiful, with her dark black hair and bright blue eyes. Louis knew that she was to be his. So, he did what any other man would've; He wed her. No one believed the wedding at first, not even Kathleen. A king is always supposed to marry a queen, or at least a princess. Louis, however, thought otherwise. The honest truth behind it was, no Princess would accept his hand in marriage. No one knows of this except the royal advisor, Jacq, and King Louis, himself. Though, one could say, the Princesses were only thinking of sensible mind. While they were young, the oldest being twenty-two at the time, Louis was old and graying. He would just be celebrating his fifty-sixth birthday this year. In his younger years, Louis was married to Princess Amelia Favre, of Parian France. She matched his personality, snobbish and well bred, but she'd died close after her thirty-third birthday, with a fatal illness - The scarlet fever. She was the first one in the kingdom to have such a disease, therefore, no one knew how to treat it. Amelia was buried in Cilivia Cemetery, with no funeral service, as decided by her husband. "She would want it this way", he said. Amelia left behind three children: Ciaran, her oldest, now a strapping young lad of twenty-two. Sarah, her middle child, now a lovely maiden of eighteen. And, Eric, who's now seventeen. Both Ciaran and Sarah are children of Louis, as well, but Eric -- Louis only discovered in his wife's last will and testament that Eric was not his son, but the son of a traveling merchant, Giovanni. Since then, Louis has mistreated Eric out of resentment for Amelia. Back to present day Cilivia. Since King Aberth's death, merely a year ago, Louis has changed the rules of the kingdom. All poor class men, of fifteen and older, must work in town, making stones and buildings from six am until ten pm each day. They are under the supervision of King Louis' "Grand Men", who stand over them with their whips and direct them places. They aren't allowed in the small schoolhouse, that they built, or even anywhere near it. As a result, most of them cannot read or write. The middle-class men, they have their farms or merchandise that they sell in town to make a living. Girls, however, are allowed to go to school, but only until they are fourteen. Then, they are permitted to join, either the middle-class women in town, selling things. Or, join the poor class women, in the field with crops like gathering wheat for bread, or berries. The royal family, on the other hand, don't have to bear such treatment. Eric has a private teacher, Liam Jacobs. He, according to Jacq, has the finest education in all of England. Unfortunately, he may be teaching Eric a bit more than he should. Sarah has etiquette training, along with her new stepmother, Kathleen. Ciaran attends knight training, when he's not in town. Little do they know, trouble is brewing is Cilivia. |
