Giving seeds away at the fair, to get more

I am new at growing big-uns. I have though grown pumpkins since I was a wee little lad. One thing that I do remember is how much fun it was. I did (and still do) love halloween and remember how much fun I had carving my own pumpkin. I now have two of my own, my oldest being five. He seems to enjoy working out in the patch with me. I believe that growing pumpkins is the best way at teaching a child about the joys of gardening. The AG seeds that I planted are 1167Handy and some Howard Dill. I have 1167handy that was planted in a shaded area so it is a late bloomer. I was thinking that if I harvest it early that maybe I could place a couple seeds and a basic care sheet in envelopes and hand them out to kids at the Cumberland fair.

I am wondering how other members feel about this. I could supply some of the seeds and the all of the envelopes. As I said before, I am a newcommer, so I probably shouldnt be the one that makes the care sheet.

Go for it , I think when more people learn of the " NEW" prize listings for this years weigh-in at Cumberland their are going to be more new growers in 2006 going after them. I also would think Bill Clark will be talking to the guys about printing up & passing out info/sign up sheets at Cumby's for The Maine Pumpkin Growers Club so we can boost our membership up to 50 or more by next year.
We need to mention on that info sheet that by being a member of the Maine Pumpkin Growers they will receive seeds from the top Maine grown pumpkins from other members PLUS seeds from other clubs that we trade with.

From a new-growers stand point, theres alot of useful infomation on this website. We could mention on the care sheet that it is just a basic caresheet, and refer them to this website if they want to make a serious attempt at growing a big-un.

We could also, in an attempt at gaining more membership, cut a deal with people that sign up at the fair, such a five bucks off the first year, or a promise of X amount of seeds

Im no business man, but I assume the more public interest, the more commercial interest, the more sponsors in the future. I think handing out seeds could really help MePGO and the sport grow. But time will tell........
