Cucumber beetles are descending on my plants, I have started to hand pick them. Does anyone have suggestions for organic or non-organic remedies? Also last year I got nailed by squash vine borers, anyone have remedies or prevention ideas for them? Thanks, Ira
Bug B Gon , Sevin should handle cuke beetles and SVB for the most part . They have other products at Lowes , WM or your local nursery . You should control the cukes early as they are the first to show up and when they start feeding on the leaves can cause a virus that can take the whole plant out later in the summer .
Many growers bury the plants vines to try and protect the SVB from laying eggs on them . IF you had them last year you will this year also . IF you can't bury the part of the vine where the stump comes out of the ground at least cover it until late August with a small piece of tarp or something to protect it from the svb moth so it won't lay eggs on it .
Do a search on bigpumpkins.com top left hand side of the home page , type in what you are looking for like how to control cuke beetles .
