Title: DDC: January Challenge
Description: draw a dragon

Mellody - January 1, 2012 02:00 PM (GMT)
INTRODUCTION
Hey there party people. The reemergence of the Dragon Drawing Club is marked particularly by this specific idea. Monthly Challenges! Simple enough, every month there is a new challenge, and you my dear little members really ought to consider rising to it. After all, the point of this club is to improve, and to improve you must be challenged. So happy drawing!
CHALLENGE
This month the challenge is easy enough. We'll just start with the very basics: Draw a dragon. Any dragon, anywhere, doing whatever you want them to do. Specifically, I'm talking the ENTIRE dragon. Feet, tail, wings, head, all that stuff in the middle. All of it. No cutting off pieces.

Naturally, a few of us have been doing this a while, but we want this to be a challenge for you as well. So my challenge is thus: try something you haven't tried before. Such as a dragon from a different angle, like behind or above or below. Try a dragon in a different pose from usual. Basically, you'll know you're doing it right if you had to work at it.
PARTICIPATION
Naturally there is no way I can force you to do anything at all. But you did join the club, you must have some interest in drawing dragons, and some interest in getting better. So I'll just make it easier for you by saying that anything counts. Rough pencil sketch, solid lineart, full-blown art piece complete with color and background. Anything applies.Don't be shy about it, believe me when I say there was a time when none of us knew what we were doing. So. Once you've gotten something drawn or done or perhaps just an idea for what you're doing, post it here! All images will be featured on the main club page. And as an added reward, your drawing ability should improve. So there isn't really anything to loose and a lot to gain. Good luck, artists!
CLUB
And for anyone that sees this and says "Hey, I'd like to try that!", please do! Just join our club! No joining fee, nothing expected of you. Just click the link and fill out the form!

Here you go. Its not graceful, but I think I love her, disproportionate and all. She's kind of like the weenerdog of dragons, tiny little legs....

Bahahaaaaa. I didn't forget. What is this you speak of? << >>

Anyway, I drew a dragon. (Not exactly for this, but who's checking?) Hey, at least it isn't for my shop or anything. So nyeh.

=P I said sketches were fine, didn't I? IS MYSAOTH! WHEE! Plus bleh size reference of R'nianon. Picture makes him look a bit small, but when he's standing you're eye level with the bottom of his chest. And he's half again wider than you are tall. Nommy.

FINALLY got him drawn as beefy as I've always wanted to. Been having a lot of trouble with that kind of thing, but recently it just sort of... Happened. Kinda weird, actually. Anyway.

MORE PEOPLE JOIN, YIS. I just posted a sketch, so can you. Not a competition. xD

Here's my entry. It's a new template for all of us to use! Yay! I'll put it up some time in the near future. Unfortunately it needs to be separated into layers, and won't really work well as a png. =x

So it's a day late, but this is what I was working on this month:

Link out due to potentially large picture

There are a couple reasons this was a challenge for me. For one, I've never drawn a dragon without wings before. For a second, I've only tried armor once before and it failed miserably, so I wanted to try again. Another thing is that this guy is bulky in front and short in the back with a club tail that you can't see (phone cameras can only capture so much). This is actually an in progress picture. The actual drawing is more complete shading-wise, but I don't have a way to get it off my phone currently otherwise I'd show it off instead.

Anyway. Hope you enjoy! Looking forward to working on that hatchling for February's challenge.
