The nominated councillors had a joke, to build the city's foundations on smoke. They thought their idea so funny that their laughter it turned into a choke.
They started on the blueprints right away, tracing out the cul-de-sacs in spades. They went to sleep not dreaming, not dreaming that they never would awake. LAUREL CANYON, Los Angeles, California. The bohemian corridor between West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, became famous in the 1960's and was once home to musicians like Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper, Keith Richards and Carole King, as well as actors like Errol Flynn and Houdini. The beautiful atmosphere and laid-back feeling of this canyon neighborhood has become famous in the world. The housing ranges from the small apartment complexes and bungalows that run down the streets of Kirkwood, to the small beach houses along Wonderland Avenue. These are the average and poorer people's housing, or those who simply like to be closer to the ocean. Then you have your bigger houses, mansions, and estates, up in the hills on either side of the canyon that run along Mount Olympus and Lookout Mountain Avenue. This is where the rich, the famous, and the fortunate live. Five story houses, pools with fountains and waterfalls, stone lions: you name it, they'll buy it. All the Spanish Mission houses slide into the sea The pool cleaner he cleans the pool with its owner's SUV The shadow of the mountain it comes creeping across the sea And no-one would believe you if you said this is how it would be
Up in Laurel Canyon angels sing, while sweet Gene Autry's dealing cards to Sting. He's so flat he went out and traded $50 for his wedding ring. Living here, you are dealing with many social classes that all reside in the same area, and have to deal with each other. Naturally, there is only one highschool: Canyon High. Here is where the teenagers of this famous, sunny area attend their classes and receive their education. Or lack thereof. A lot of the kids believe that school here is optional. Of course this isn't the case, but that doesn't stop them from skipping. Some pull up to school in their Lexus, some pull up in their 1984 Hondas, some pull up on skateboards. While most of their parents seem to co-mingle naturally, the students are naturally materialistic and judgmental. Do you meet many teenagers who aren't? There's more drama here within these walls, amongst these young people, than on General Hospital. Cliques are formed, enemies are dealt with, friends are broken up, romance blossoms. When you've got all the money in the world, or friends with all the money in the world, who cares about anything else? All the sullen singers they pull down on their fringe The French doors start to buckle and they let the waters in You know that these hills were built for people to be free And no-one would believe you if you said this is how it would be There's the rich, the average, and the poor. The beautiful, the plain, and the undesirable. Which will you be by the time things come to pass? Only time will tell. Make the right friends, get rid of the right enemies, be the best frienemy you can be! Everyone has something going on, you'll soon find. It's what you do, and how you deal, that determines who you are. The gutters become torrents and run down the graceful streets Like a revolutionary force stamping its foamy feet The elements of nature they are turned and reversed Land is sea, air is land, and fire its inverse All the marble monuments they return to the sea And no-one would believe you if you said this is how it would be --- click below to join us lyrics from "the destruction of laurel canyon" by youth group
