In this tutorial, we are going to be making a glowing glass orb similar to this one.
Part 1: Background1. Open up a new document with a transparent background and make it 250x250.
2. Change the name of the current layer's (Layer 1) name to "Background".
3. Press "D" on your keyboard to reset the colors. Then change the Foreground to #393939.
Part 2: Orb4. Create a new layer and name it "Orb." Click on the
Elliptcal Marquee Tool. Then on the top under
Style, click on the dop down list and click on
Fixed Size. Change the Width to 200 px and the Height to 200 px.
Click here to look at the picture5. Click in the middle of the Orb layer and you will see a round circle that is animated with dotted ants.
6. Change your Foreground to #930000 and your Background to #EE0000. Click on the
Gradient Tool and then make sure the gradient is set to
Foreground to Backgorund and on
Linear Gradient.
7. Using the Gradient Tool, start at the top of the Orb and go all the way to the bottom.

8. Now press Ctrl+D on your keybord to deselect.
9. Go to the Layer>>>Layer Style>>>Stroke and put these settings
Size: 1
Position: Outside
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Fill Type: Color
Color: #000000
Now your orb should look like this.
Part 3: Reflection 10. Create a new layer and name it "Reflection." Click on the
Elliptcal Marquee Tool. Make an oval shape on the top of the orb and press "D" then "X" on your keyboard.
11. Click on the
Gradient Tool and make sure it is on Linear Gradient. Also make sure that you Foreground is #FFFFFF. Then change gradient to
Foreground to Transparent. Make the gradient going from the top the the bottom.
12. Press "Ctrl+D" on your keyboard to deselect. Lower the Opacity of the Reflection layer to 80%.
