Though Akhailon is far from complete, if you wish to get a foothold in this fantasy RPG and, possibly, just start RPing now, this would be the thread to do it on. Also, you can go ahead and create a character you wish to RP, if you would like. The bottom line (until I'm not-lazy enough to post the official Akhailon ruleset) is be realistic. When in doubt, talk to me. I'm literally the best (and only truly qualified) person to consult on all things Akhailon.

What are all of the possible races and occupations (classes)? I know you told me once, but it might be good to write it for everyone to see. That, and I think I've forgotten a lot. smile.gif

I did, once upon a time. But I will in the public, anyway.

Keep in mind that this list is not necessarily complete (in fact, it isn't, as there are two races I'm in the long process of making, and I might add more pre-established, not sure yet though). If a race doesn't mention any restrictions, there probably aren't any. (Unless I screwed up on my end....)

That being said, this is directly from my "scrap book" (MS Word tongue.gif):

Humans

The primary inhabitants of the lands of Akhailon, humans are, by far, the most common race in the realm. Because of their nature, they are diverse in personality and alignment, so much that it is not far-fetched to say no human is the same. Humans can be found in all walks of life, from the crippled and broke beggar to the honorable and just paladin, to the feared and powerful overlord. Because of this diversity, roleplaying a human character is, by far, the easiest venture, and the most common.

Elves

Heralding from the various woodlands of Akhailon, elves share a shaky alliance with the humans, in the only respect that their physical structure is very similar and that they share a common enemy. Elves are divided into few sub-races – high elves, wood elves, half-elves, wild elves, and dark elves.

High Elves

Typically pompous in nature, they believe themselves to be the dominating elven race. This might be because of their typical higher command of the arcane magics. Though not exclusive to their sub-race, as there are other classes of high elves, the high elves are ruled by a council of powerful mages.

Wood Elves

Nature-dwellers, but would often be found amongst civilization regardless, wood elves are expert hunters and trackers. Often light-footed, it is an uncommon sight to see a wood elf adorn anything heavier than leather armor. Less common still is the sight of a non-natural magic-using wood elf. Because of their connection to nature, wood elves take advancements in technology as a great offense, and this has been a leading cause of wars amongst other races.

Half-Elves

Born from the union between an elf and a human, half-elves share attributes of both races. Though not immortal, they live much longer than any human. They carry the curiosity and ambition of their human parent, with the refined senses and love of nature of their elven parent. They are considered outsiders among both cultures – to humans, half-elves look like elves, and to elves, they look like humans. Half-elves are paler, fairer, and smoother-skinned than their human parents, but their actual skin tones and other details vary just as human features do. Half-elves tend to have green, elven eyes. They live to about 180 years.

Wild Elves

Wild elves, also known as green elves, are insular and savage. As a result they are rarely seen outside their forest homes. The green elves were always close to nature, even more than other elves, but they have forgotten many of the high arts and lore of their people, choosing stealth and survival over learning and enlightenment. Their skin tends to be brown and their hair ranges from black to light brown, lightening to silvery white with age.

Dark Elves

Dark elves are a sly, insidious subrace of elves, and amongst the few who are not held in very high regard amongst their kind. Long ago, during the Age of Crusades, the dark elves made a pact with the Lord of the Damned, granting them command over the Dark Arts of magic, but at the cost of their morality, and their souls. Because of this, dark elves are staunch allies of the Undead. Dark elves are, indeed, living creatures, but typically serve the Lord of the Damned. Very few have managed to escape this fate, but most that have tried have joined the hordes of the Undead, sealing their fate for all eternity. All dark elves hold command over the Dark Arts.

Dwarves

Short, stocky, and ill-tempered, dwarves hail from the Demlon kingdom in the north. Plagued with near-constant winters, they typically dwell in caves to keep warm, and grow tremendous beards to help shield themselves from the cold, arctic chills that result from their homeland. Dwarves are miners and forgers, and perhaps the most well-armed race in the world. When a dwarf ventures from his home, he will typically find his performance decreased due to the hotter climates that he would be used to. However, due to his great strength, a dwarf is still a formidable opponent in any battlefield.

Gnomes

Gnomes are proficient with technology and magic, making them the ideal race to turn to for new inventions, both peaceful and war faring. Because of their similarity in appearance to dwarves, and their relative close proximity to them, gnomes and dwarves are typically friendly toward each other, and will often team up to engage each others’ enemies. They like to tinker with gadgets and gizmos, and find new ways of improving the quality of life, but they are not shy toward war. The magic-users of their society are fascinated with the Arts, just as the tinkers are with technology.

Undead

A mixed race that consists of individuals once dead, but now raised, the Undead are the “villainous” force in the world. Neither alive nor dead, they hold the unique characteristic of being a near-unstoppable force. With a high resistance to most types of damage (but very high vulnerability to Holy damage), the Undead are considered very dangerous adversaries, and a natural enemy to the living.

Vampires

Vampires are immune to any conventional damage dealt against them. The exception to this rule is that vampires turn mortal if exposed to natural sunlight, making them vulnerable to all sorts of damage. However, they retain high vulnerability to conventional weapons and their supernatural physical abilities, making them nonetheless dangerous foes in combat. These near-immortals are typical amongst the few that are chosen to command the Undead. Like any member of this unholy race, they are highly vulnerable to Holy damage, such as healing spells and blessed items and weaponry. Unlike many members of the Undead, however, vampires cannot be converted back to the living. The pact they had made with the Lord of the Damned ages ago disallows for their own personal free will, and they only have the freedom to operate under the Lord of the Damned’s will.

Death Knights

Paladins who had died in battle were arisen by the Legions of the Damned to serve the Lord of the Damned in his bidding. Death knights are the generals of the Undead armies, and the exact opposite of paladins in every way. Answering only to the Lord of the Damned, these unholy warriors of the Dark are fearsome warriors in battle, and can only be turned from their corrupted state through their own demise or by means of resurrection (if their death is recent enough). Unlike dark knights, death knights do not have an absolute bond to their master, and that bond may be broken if they fall to a second death or if they are resurrected. If a death knight falls in battle, his only means of survival is if he is capable of resurrection.

Zombies

Amongst the most common of warriors in the Undead armies, zombies come from fresh corpses, still holding flesh to the bone, but to the point of decay. These mindless minions of the damned are incapable of being resurrected, and can only be slain in battle to be defeated. They are slower than the living, but not so much that they are sluggish in battle. Most zombies are incapable of using magic, and if their body is not fresh enough, they will typically wield light weapons and adorn light armor, if any at all.

Liches

Liches are commanders of the Undead. Powerful sorcerers once dead, these individuals have the ability to summon or reanimate the dead to do their personal bidding. These undead wielders of arcane magical arts are very dangerous, but also susceptible to being destroyed through sheer force. They often employ skeletons and other animated undead to do their bidding and protect them from their enemies. Liches are the only race that may directly contact the Lord of the Damned, and are mindless servants to his will.

Banshees

Banshees are the female equivalence to the liches. Unlike the lich, however, banshees cannot speak with the Lord of the Damned, and their powers over the Undead are limited to summoning other spirits. As such, they will often employ the aid of ghosts, wraiths, and spectres.

The Damned

The Damned is a collective term for those that have died and were reanimated into the Undead. Unlike zombies, however, the Damned are not exclusively warriors. They serve any and all purposes of battle, including sorcerers weaker than liches and banshees, undead knights and other non-paladin soldiers, undead archers and rangers, or even menial workers or acolytes. To qualify as a member of the Damned, one’s corpse must not be to the point of decay. This makes them very human-esque in nature, regardless of showing an obvious lack of humanity about them. The longer one is a member of the Damned, the less likely it is they may be resurrected to the living. If they are resurrected to the living, they may not return as the Damned, and would otherwise return as zombies (if at all) if killed again.

Orcs

With an average height of just above six and a half feet tall (roughly two meters) and over 250 lbs (roughly 120 kilograms average) of muscle and power, orcs are a fierce warrior race. An average orc possesses intelligence equal to, if not slightly lower than, an average human’s, and holds many of the same variety of skills. Their skin color ranges from various shades of green, grey, or olive, and are typically dark-haired (except for when they grow old, then like humans, many will develop white hairs). Seen by many as mere savages, they have a proud and noble history as warriors of honor. However, warring has scarred this tradition and developed them into the fierce, seemingly-heartless individuals they are today. Yet many still hold on to elements of traditions that are fading in their society.

Half-Orcs

Half-Orcs are the short-tempered and sullen result of human and orc pairings. They would rather act than ponder and would rather fight than argue. They love simple pleasures, such as feasting, boasting, and wild dancing. They are an asset at the right sort of party, but not at the duchess's grand ball. Half-orcs are as tall as humans but their brutish features betray their lineage. They also regard scars as tokens of pride and things of beauty.

Trolls

Trolls are a race of tall, although often crouching, lanky humanoids. Trolls vary in color, often with boar-like tusks protruding of the lower part of their jaws. While some trolls appear well muscled, others appear quite lithe. All breeds are tall; standing approximately 2.3 meters in height. Like the orcs, trolls are viewed as savages, despite their inner culture. This has led them to be hated by many other humanoid races, and even feared. They are renowned for their ability to quickly regenerate wounds, and even re-grow severed limbs. They are agile, cunning and completely ruthless when it comes to hunting prey (whether it be animal or person). It would be a grave mistake to cross a troll on a whim, thinking them to be primitive and stupid. Trolls are notoriously carnivorous, and will, given the opportunity, eat any animal they are capable of killing – including allies and friends.

Forest Trolls

Dwelling in the forests of Akhailon, forest trolls are the natural enemies of the elves. These trolls are found in shades of green or grey, and are inclined to attack at will.

Ice Trolls

Typically found in the frozen wastes in the north, ice trolls may be seen in shades of blue or white, and are much more inclined than their forest troll brethren to attack anyone on sight. Due to this, they are usually at war with the dwarves that dwell in the same region.

Jungle Trolls

A blue-skinned variant of the troll race, jungle trolls are allies with the orcs. They pledged their loyalty when the orcs aided them in destroying a lich and his army of undead. It should be noted that not all jungle trolls are allies with the orcs, as there are some outsiders who prefer to stick with their pre-orc days.

Minotaur

The Minotaur are an ancient race, dating back before the Age of Crusades. Part man and part bull, these warriors are honor-bound and typically viewed as untrustworthy, given scattered accounts of rogue minotaur committing heinous crimes. A religious, shamanistic culture, minotaur are attuned to the earth and its spirits, and ancestral worship and the path of an honored hunter is revered. With an average height of twice that of an average man, minotaur are amongst the most fearsome creatures in the lands. Most think twice before combating one of these massive warriors.

Goblins

Standing at about half the height of an average man, goblins are green-skinned engineers. Moved by the love of the coin, they choose to remain neutral, though there are accounts of individual goblins joining forces with other races. Unlike gnomes, however, they focus more toward destructive technologies, such as explosives and more advanced weaponry. This makes them rivals to the gnomes.

You may not make a new race on your own. I might allow this later, but not now. If you feel there is a race (based off of these listed) that was left out, feel free to mention it and I'll review it. Like I said before, the list is not yet complete.

This is NOT a D&D RPG setting. Therefore, what you see is what you get. And no, Dark elves are NOT, as such, nicknamed "Drow". So don't call them that. Dark elves are dark elves, simple as that.

There is another sub-species of elves, but it is not available to be roleplayed. I say this now because I'm debating on roleplaying the my featured character from that sub-species, and I would rather say it now than bother to go out of my way and say it later.

Finally... when in doubt, ask. The only stupid question is the assumption. (No, I'm not quoting anyone, so yes, I am aware that is not how it's "supposed" to go.) Not all the lands are named. There are seven kingdoms total, many of which may be divided into sub-kingdoms (such as Johrnte, but as actual, established kingdoms). If you want to know about placing a member of a species somewhere that may "seem" out of place, just ask me. The general rule is, as long as there's a realistic reason why that member is there (such as a Frost Troll being found in the wilderness of Senystia on a midsummer day.... dry.gif), then you'll be fine in having a character there. So, you may very well see a forest troll among the mountains, or a dwarf in the forest. It is not unheard of for species to leave their originating locations.

Finally (Part II)... no you may NOT roleplay races such as dragons, or demons, or the like. So... don't ask. I say this now because, sooner or later, someone will ask.
