oh man, here's a topic
Funny Games - completely fucked up and tense as hell movie out of Austria. watch and sweat as two smiling lunatics terrorize a vacationing family, all without showing harldy any physical violence. tense, crazy stuff thats driven by a deep sense of dred rather than blood and gore. seriously, this movie got my heart thumpin. Yi Yi - could be called Chinese Beauty (a la American Beauty). a story that follows a typical chinese family as they wonder through life in search of themselves. gives you perspectives from both the young and old generation. hard to say what makes this one so special. I guess its in the characters that you cant help but relate to and also the kind of zen pacing this one has. Oh ya, and there's a little boy in this one that likes to take pictures of the back of peoples heads in order to show them a part of themselves they dont usually see. really simple but powerful stuff. Morvern Callar - Best movie I've seen in a long time. If you're looking for plot, if you're looking for dialogue, dont watch this one. If you're interested in a character study of a wierd ass chick thats driven by imagery and music, you'll probably dig this. Seriously, this movie's got balls. And it was directed by a woman! Here's a movie that dares to be different, dares in fact to be original, and i think it suceeds on every level. "cinematic poem" is a good way of descibing this one i think. just really really beautiful stuff with great atmosphere and a few pretty shocking moments. and heh, i think this was the first time I ever heard gabber in a major motion picture. ya, gabber. used very effectively too. This is probably top on my to buy list. |

I picked this up in HMV in Hong Kong... didn't see it yet. 4) Battle Royale 1&2 (Japanese) ... uh... twisted. 5) Samurai Fiction (Japanese) ...Funny!! Good foreign movie?!?
FILIPINO BATMAN AND ROBIN! Hah! It's an action flick, a comedy flick, and a musical all in one package!! Hah!! Too bad most of it is in Tagalog, I can translate, but shit, I hate translating shit. Samurai Fiction? Go watch it if you haven't yet, go to Hollywood Video on Mack, they have that shit over there. I think Van has the uncut version of Ichi, but it's in his computer. Anyone have the following films? ONG BAK: MUAY THAI FIGHER, and HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS (uncut, please, I want it non-kosher). |
