Taylor sighed again and turned up her music-- another noisy group of underclassmen had just entered the diner.
Sure, she hadn't been expecting silence, or even near silence, when she'd come here to finish up the abstract concept essay for her AP English class, but she also hadn't been expecting pandemonium. She ordered another coke and turned up her music again, scowling down at her laptop. It was a very nice laptop, and she was normally quite proud of it, but when it was keeping her from her daily run-- okay, so it was the essay keeping her from her daily run-- a scowl tended to materialize and focus on whatever was closest.
Her cell rang, and she paused her music. "Hello?" It was her brother. "Why would I know where your favorite pants are?" She rolled her eyes. "Did you check the closet? Good. Go do that." She hung up and eyed her laptop warily for a moment before giving up on her homework with a shrug and shutting the contraption off.
