heartlife alternative high school
Welcome to Heartlife Alternative High School, a progressive, pioneering school that takes a very different approach to education! Realising that not all teenagers are able to deal with the usual schooling system, Heartlife provides a safe, stable environment promoting personal growth and development with added support and individual schedules.
The teenagers that attend Heartlife range from the age of 13 to 18, although some students remain on at the school as residents up until the age of 21, helping out and continuing their theraputic journeys. Everyone here is dealing with some sort of disorder, learning or behavioural disability or illness preventing them from being in the normal system.

Lockers
Slip a message for someone inside their locker - it's not that hard. Lockers are located in the school building and are a good way of communicating when you can't directly get hold of someone.

Boxes
The pigeon holes are where you can leave messages for members of staff if they're unavaliable. Each staff member has their own, located inside the main office. Ask the secretary if you can't find the one you're after.

Main Office
The main office is where you can get a copy of your timetable, come to call home or even just drop a note in a staff member's pigeon hole. Visitors must also report here.

Staff Lounge
The staff can come and take a well deserved break in the staff lounge, complete with couches, a small kitchen, bathroom and a TV. It's not exactly enormous, but it's good enough.

Oncall Room
The on-call room is where any staff working the night shift can try to get some sleep. It is quite often required that staff pull all-nighters even when they are unscheduled to work, so this room is here for them to crash in for a few hours.

Lounge
The student lounge is a huge area where you can come and chill out when you're not in class. It's open all hours although you're not supposed to be in here beyond 11pm or before 6am. There are comfortable couches, coffee tables, bookcases, games, a TV and DVD combi, four computers and a pool table and stereo. Just try not to make too much noise...there are other kids around.

Canteen
The canteen is where you come to get your food. Everything is covered by tuition fees, so you'll never need a wallet in here. Come on in and grab a plate of something nice - the food really isn't that bad. Honest!

Infirmary
The infirmary is the place to go if you are feeling unwell, need a check-up or just need to take some medications. Push the buzzer and one of the medical staff will let you right on through.

Suites
The suites are a set of rooms with restricted access. Each room has a specific use - there's an art therapy room, a music therapy room and a general one where group meetings are held.

Hallways

Classrooms
The classrooms are pretty standard, what with the desks, chairs, whiteboards, cupboards and a few computers scattered around. They are actually pretty bright and colourful - sadly the same can't be said about the lessons themselves.

Library
The library is open from 8am to 6pm daily and you can find various books, CDs, CD-roms and DVDs in their pretty impressive stock. There's a quiet study area as well as a computer section, so it's always a great place to come during frees.

The auditorium is used for all sorts of meetings, events and productions. Usually, it's just for all-school assemblies and such forth.

Inside each of the bedrooms there are two desks, beds, chairs, wardrobes and nightstands. There is one bathroom per dorm and also a living room with two couches and a cabinet for personal belongings.

Playground
The playground is basically just a multi-purpose pitch used mostly for basketball. There's a hoop and other equipment such as football goals can be found in the shed behind - you'll have to ask a member of staff to unlock it though.

Garden
The garden is a small area at the back of the school where the staff and some of the students keep a beautiful garden. Come and sit out amongst the flowers - it's pretty and peaceful.

Field
The field - run a few laps, athletes, or just come out here and sit. Technically this field is intended for sports use, but nobody around here does much of that. Use it for whatever.

Stream
At the very bottom of campus - at the border between school grounds and the outside world, there lies a small stream. Many students love to come out here and dip their feet in, kick back and relax.

Pool
Swimming is a good physical activity, especially for some of the students here because of their health. The pool is locked except for certain supervised times - there's a schedule on the door.

Woods
There is a small woodland area which backs on to the open land behind. You're not likely to get lost in these woods so don't worry about taking a walk through, protected by the shade of the trees.

Town
The town of Heartland Heights is an absolutely beautiful place, surrounded by acres of untamed forrest. Take a walk through the town and see what you come across...just don't forget, PATIENTS aren't allowed out of the facility!

Heartland Park
The local park is a lovely place to come and sit. There's a garden area for adults wanting to relax, a picnic area for young families and a children's playground. Also, at the entrance you'll find a beautiful fountain - very peaceful.

Heather's Cafe
Heather's cafe is a little tea and coffee shop on the main street, located between the bank and the entrance to the shopping strip. The cafe is open from 9 to 5 every day and serves a wonderful selection of food and drink.

The Mall
The shopping mall is a little retail outlet that is just off of the main high street. A shopper's paradise - at least to the local residents, this little street contains all sorts of wonderful little stores. It's small, but sweet.

Heller's is the hottest bar in town and it's definitely the place to go should you want a fun night on the town. Come and have some drinks then get out on the dancefloor.

Starlight is the most expensive restaurant in town but it's well worth the price tag. Serving the very best in French food, this place is totally romantic and totally hip. Everyone's dying to dine here.

Heartland Hospital
The local hospital is somewhere you hopefully won't have to come, but it's always good to know that it's here. Sometimes counsellors may be required to bring their students here.
