: Power (Mutation) Overview :

One little spider bite. One little spider bite is what changed Peter Parker from a puny little science nerd into the not so puny superhero Spider-Man. When Peter was bit by the spider it caused several changes to his body that made him who he is today, the first of which was eliminating his need to wear glasses. Also due to the bite Peter received from the genetically altered spider, he gained some of the inherent traits that a spider possesses. His strength was enhanced so that he could lift many times his own weight, he gained the ability to jump or leap great distances, and he can cling to and climb on almost any surface much like a spider. Peter also possesses a danger sense he refers to as his "spider sense" which alerts him to pending physical danger. His spider sense is a reactive ability which he has learned to use not only in normal situations, but he can also use it to react even quicker during a fight. On top of his spider-sense augmenting his reflexes, Peters natural reflex abilities are enhanced far beyond a normal human, allowing him to even dodge bullets if he is a sufficient distance away from where they are fired.

Spider-man is also one of the more agile and nimble super-heroes. His fighting style incorporates acrobatic moves, and he is often seen bouncing between multiple opponents during a fight. This innate acrobatic ability also helps him when he is traveling by way of his webs. Along with his use of his highly acrobatic body, and the use of available surfaces around him to cling to Peter has a rather unique fighting style. Many of his moves involve him keeping a low center of balance and remaining low to the ground, sometimes on all threes or fours allowing him to use his enhanced tendons to spring at a opponents. He often keeps this crouched position even when springing through the air, allowing him to keep jumping off of things. Also worth mentioning is that Peter is most often seen bickering and calling out quips and other witty remarks (or simply put: bad jokes) during a fight. This seems to be largely for Peter's entertainment, but it also succeeds in angering or distracting his opponents causing them to make mistakes.

In addition to those abilities, Peter also has the ability to produce his own webbing, true to spider form. He has not demonstrated much of an upper limit to this ability yet, and is able to generate massive amounts of webbing very quickly when he focuses. He can create thick or thin strands of webbing depending on the situation he wants to use it for. The most primary use of the webbing is as a mode of transportation throughout the city, but it does have more offensive uses such as firing web balls at criminals, tying up people and covering the mouthes of loud mouth newspaper editors (okay not often but when it’s done it’s really effective and needed).

:(Special) Skills :

On top of being a great superhero, having a cool costume and cool powers, Peter is pretty much of genius level intelligence. Science is his life…outside of the superhero thing of course. When Peter was very young his Uncle Ben took him to a lot of sci-fi and monster movies which initially began his love affair with the sciences. Before leaving New York, Peter did have a rather heavy workload of advanced science courses (including physics) at ESU. He’s hoping to get back into school while in Gotham and hopefully have better luck with class there than he did back in the Big Apple.

: Any Identifying Traits :

Peter doesn’t really have any identifying traits. He’s really a rather plain guy that you wouldn’t even suspect to be someone that goes swinging through the city on tiny strands of web dressed in a tight costume. The only thing that could be identifying about him is that he sometimes wears his old black framed glasses.

: General Appearance :

Peter looks like your average guy when you actually sit and look at him. While he is in wonderful physical condition thanks to his powers, he isn’t amazing to look at (though that’s more attributed to his clothes). That’s not to say that Peter is an ugly person as he isn’t, he just doesn’t hold the look that you would equate with someone as amazing as Spider-Man. His clean shaven face still has the look of an innocent teen, his hair kept very well and presentable as his Aunt May always taught him.

As mentioned above his powers make it so that he does look pretty good without a shirt on, which is one of the reasons why he usually wears clothes that help make him look visually unappealing and very un Spider-Man like. It’s almost like the difference between Clark Kent and Superman except there’s a mask involved.

5) J. Jonah Jameson constantly using his pictures to portray Spider-Man as a villain

: Fears :

There are plenty of things that Peter Parker fears, one of which…probably the biggest fear he has is someone close to him, be it MJ, Aunt May or even Harry being hurt because of his role as Spider-Man. Few things hurt worse than knowing that someone you truly love can be taken from you not because of something that they did, but because of something you’ve done.

Another thing that Peter fears is Harry Osborn…to an extent. The way that Harry has taken his father’s death and the kind of person he has seemed to turn into as a result of his belief that “he” killed him is something that strikes a little bit of fear into Peter. He honestly doesn’t know what his best friend is capable of especially now that his secret is out with Harry.

: General Personality :

Peter’s personality is quite an interesting one to try to describe as he actually has two personalities to himself. As Peter Parker he’s as clumsy as he is dorky looking and for the life of him he just could never really express himself to Mary Jane (at least he couldn’t). As Peter Parker it seems like everything that could go wrong, probably will go wrong. Be it arriving late to class, work or a social engagement or something as simple as talking to his boss, Mary Jane or some guy on the street he seems shy and timid as Peter Parker.

As Spider-Man that all disappears, he’s more agile, cool and smooth. Everything he does and says is done with a style and grace that could make just about any man jealous. As Spider-Man he has the confidence to kiss someone, or tell his boss to shut up for once. These are all things that he for whatever reason just can’t seem to say or do as Peter Parker. He walks without falling, he seems to get everywhere he needs to be right on time and he looks cool doing it. Peter Parker and Spider-Man although the same, different as night and day.

: Birth Place :

Queens, New York

: Biography :

When Peter was just a small boy, his parents died in a plane crash and he was immediately sent to live with his aunt and uncle. Ben and May Parker were an elderly couple who didn't have any children of their own, so they raised Peter as if he was their son. They rarely spoke of Peter's parents, so he assumed that they had left him because of something he had done. Not wanting his aunt and uncle to leave him like his parents had, Peter decided that he would work extra hard to win their approval, thus began his constant studying and drive to excel in school.

After Uncle Ben took him to a sci-fi/monster movie marathon, Peter found himself fascinated in science and he wrapped himself up in his studies, determined not to disappoint his aunt and uncle. At school, he was often teased by the other students for his lack of a fashion sense (Aunt May bought his clothes, think about it tongue.gif) as well as being smarter than just about everyone and his big black glasses. Peter had no real friends outside of Harry Osborn, except Uncle Ben, but he didn't count, however, he did have a crush and that was on the girl next door, Mary Jane Watson. Peter never had the nerve to talk to her and could only find himself dreaming about one day being able to be with her.

During a class field trip to a special exhibit on spiders, Peter and his best friend Harry were discussing Peter’s crush Mary Jane as Peter took pictures of the exhibit for the school paper. After seeing Harry actually work up the guts to talk to her and in turn get caught by the teacher, Peter decided to finally say something to MJ and walked over, deciding to get her picture for the school paper. While taking the picture, neither Peter, nor Mary Jane were aware that the very spider that MJ had pointed out as missing from the exhibit was coming down from a web and landing on Peter’s hand. Once MJ had turned away and walked back with the rest of the class, Peter was bitten by the spider. Gripping his hand in pain, Peter watched as the small spider ran off before he in turned headed back with his class.

Upon arriving home, Peter looked like hell and quickly made his way to his room where he passed out and slept through the entire afternoon, evening and night. Waking up the next morning he was surprised to learn that he could no longer see out of his glasses and that his body had changed completely from the skinny frame that it was before to a physical marvel. Upon going to school the changes were more evident as he found the sign from the side of the school bus stuck to his hand, he’d actually kept up with the bus while chasing after it, the erie danger he sensed before Mary Jane slipped on the spilled orange juice and the reflexes he displayed in catching her and every piece of food that was going to fall off her tray. Also discovered was the sticky webbing that had stuck his fork to his hand and a tray of food that he accidently hit Flash Thompson(the school jock/bully) with causing the jock to want to pound him into dust. In the…fight that followed, Peter was able to easily mop the floor with Flash which caused him to run off out of school and into a back alley where he came to realize that the spider that bit him had given him these new found powers.

The new change in Peter’s behavior was also beginning to worry his aunt and uncle back home they talked about these changes amongst themselves. After talking to Mary Jane in the backyard one night Peter saw her happily getting into her boyfriend Flash’s brand new car and the idea that he would need a car to impress her came roaring into his mind. Looking for a way to get together the money needed to buy himself a car, Peter noticed an ad in the paper that called for a match with a professional wrestler that would pay just the cash he needed. Staying up that night designing outfits, Peter got himself a costume together and the next day was prepared to win the cash and buy the car that he hoped would win him Mary Jane.

After all this strange behavior from Peter, Uncle Ben and Aunt May decided that Ben needed to have words with Peter and sent him off with him as he tried to head off to his match. After having an argument in the car, Peter headed into the arena, where he competed in his match and using his new found powers to win, he was cheated out of his money by the promoter. As he awaited the elevator to leave the arena, he heard the cries for help from the promoter as he witnessed him being robbed. Instead of stopping the robber at the elevator like he could have, he allowed the man to pass, figuring he didn't have to help the promoter who had cheated him. When he got down to where Uncle Ben was supposed to be waiting for him, what he found was a crowd of people and police. When he finally got to the center of the crowd, there lay his Uncle, shot. Uncle Ben died in Peter's arms, enraging the young man who was full of tears. Peter overheard the location of the carjacker who had shot his uncle and quickly getting dressed in his costume, he went after the man. Finding the jacker in an abandoned warehouse, Peter was shocked and horrified to see that the jacker was the robber from the arena that he could have stopped then. After he tried to take a shot at him in his shocked state, Peter snapped the robber's wrist, causing him to stumble backwards out of the window and falling to his death.

Peter took his Uncle's death pretty hard, mainly because he knew that he could have stopped that robber and Ben would still be there. He vowed from that moment on that he would always use his powers to help people and never make the mistake that he did with Uncle Ben again. At that time Spider-Man as the world knows him was born. Of course he was met with mixed emotions though they mostly came from the horrible reporting of J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle who began billing Spider-Man as a menace. Before long Norman Osborn, Harry’s father had changed himself into the evil Green Goblin who began terrorizing the city and looking to rid the city of Spider-Man so that he would be free to destroy it. Of course Jameson took the liberty of claiming that Spider-Man and Green Goblin were a team and continued down his road of trashing Spidey’s name. Eventually Spidey would defeat the Goblin by jumping out of the way, just as he was about to try to impale him with his glider which actually ended up impaling the Goblin himself. With his last words he asked Peter to not tell Harry about him and Peter actually lived up to that, not telling his best friend about what had happened to his father. However after catching Spider-Man setting Norman’s dead body down on his couch Harry was left believing that Spider-Man had killed his father and from then on he’d become the biggest hater of Spider-Man. Peter has since moved on in his life, still unable to bring himself to allow something to actually develop with Mary Jane who had poured her heart out to him after Norman’s funeral. Peter feared that with him being Spider-Man he could never be with Mary Jane because his enemies would go for her to get to him if they knew about his identity, just as the Green Goblin had done.

The action in Peter’s life obviously doesn’t stop there. Two years after the events with Norman Osborn, the spider bite and Uncle Ben’s murder a new villain came onto the scene in New York. One of Peter’s idols, Dr. Otto Octavius managed to merge four mechanical arms to his spine after a failed experiment to create a sustained fusion reaction. With the chip that kept the arms from controlling it’s wearer destroyed, Octavius was driven insane with the death of his wife and failed experiment and blamed it all on Spider-Man. If the troubles with Octavius wasn’t bad enough, Peter had been fired from his pizza delivery job, his friendship with Harry was going to hell and back and MJ had gotten to the point where she didn’t even want to talk to him since she was now engaged and he’d kept missing her show because of his duties as Spider-Man. To top all that off, he’d begun to randomly lose his powers at the absolute worse times, like while swinging through the skyline of Manhattan.

Things managed to turn out pretty well in the end however. Mary Jane finally found out Peter’s secret and the two expressed their true feelings for each other, Dr. Octavius had been stopped (though at a price Peter wished he didn’t have to pay) and the city was starting to come around a bit on him. The one thing that didn’t get any better was the relationship between Peter and Harry. Having discovered Peter’s identity as Spider-Man, Harry completely disassociated himself from his former best friend.

That was pretty much the only wrinkle of Peter's life for the past few months until things got crazy again. Things with Mary Jane started to a get a little rough after she recieved some bad reviews on her show and if that wasn't enough, Harry had finally made his move and it was a drastic one. While riding home one night, Harry suddenly scooped Peter up off his bike and a crazy airborne fight took place on his new Goblin Glider. Harry had picked up where his father left off and became the New Goblin. In the fight, Harry took a bad bump to the head thanks to Peter which ended up having him lose his recent memory. So for the time being, his best friend Harry, before his hatred of him and Spider-Man was back.

True to form however, things took another turn as a new photographer was on the scene at the Bugle in the form of Eddie Brock Jr and was his direct rival for the open staff photographer position. As if that wasn't bad enough, a new villain was also on the scene by the name of Flint Marko a.k.a Sandman. Peter fought him and got his butt kicked trying. Before long Peter's life was out of control again as he'd found himself with a new black suit (which in acuality was a symbiote) that changed his personality greatly. He'd smashed Brock's camera when he tried to get a picture, he started dancing down the streets, changed his style of dress, his hair, stood up to Jameson, flirted big time with Betty Brant, used his lab partner and friend Gwen to make MJ jealous and even tossed a bomb into Harry's face. Peter had changed and thanks to Dr. Connors he knew it was the suit/symbiote. Striking Mary Jane was the last straw however, Peter headed to a church where the sound of the bell allowed him to strip the symbiote from himself.

Unfotunately it ended up landing on Brock who used it to become Venom and thus add another new villain to the mix. Teaming up with Sandman, he got Spider-Man to a construction site by kidnapping Mary Jane in which case he proceeded to get beat down. In the end however things worked out, he'd gotten rid of Venom (or so he thought), found out the truth about his Uncle's death and saved MJ. The sad news was that Harry (whom also learned some truth that night) was killed helping Pete in his fight with Venom. It was a loss that hurt not only Peter, but MJ as well. After what happened that night, Pete decided to get out of New York for a while to sort things out. That decision brought him to Gotham where he took a job as photographer at the Gotham Globe.

: Sample Role-play :

"Well Phil, looks like a real quiet night tonight." said Spider-Man as he sat perched on the ledge of a tall, Gotham City building. Who was this Phil he was talking to? Well, that was the stone gargoyle that he was perched next to. When you have a job like Spidey did, out patrolling streets everyday and you primarily remained on the rooftops and whatnot, you tended to need someone to talk to. Spidey usually always found himself on this particular building and near this particular gargoyle. One day he just started talking and it helped him out while doing his job.

"Back in New York I'd probably have..." His words were cutoff as a woman's scream carried up to him from one of the many dark alleys down below. "So much for that quiet thing." He said before stepping off the ledge, falling downwards quickly. In the middle of his fall he extended his arm, pressing his fingers into his palm to fire his webbing.

THWIP

He rode a webline towards the alley that he heard the scream coming from. After letting go of the webline, he attached himself to the wall and began crawling down towards the disturbance. There was a lady who was walking in the alley, only to be cutoff by three men who looked like they were just perfect for America's Most Wanted list. "Grab her purse!" One of them yelled and one of the others quickly moved forward reaching for the woman's purse. Just as he was about to grab the purse a line of webbing hit his arm and pulled him away. The guy went slamming into a group of garbage cans as Spider-Man jumped from the wall and down to the ground putting himself between the woman and the other two. "You know if you need a purse this badly I hear that Shreck's is having this monster sale on handbags that'd go great with the silver cuffs you're going to be wearing soon." He quipped before dodging a punch attempted by one of the guys. "So Shreck's wouldn't validate your parking either, huh?" He joked as he dodged another punch then jumped backwards, his head just skimming the ground as he sprung forward, planting his feet into the guy's chest, knocking him against the brick wall and unconcious. The next guy he merely dodged a punch attempt before landing one of his own that knocked that guy out.

With that taken care of, he turned to the woman in the alley still. "Are you..." Before he could finish that sentence she took off, running out of the alley as quickly as possible. "You're welcome!" He called out after her before springing into the air and swinging off to continue with his patrol.

: Personal Thoughts on Character :

I think that Spider-Man is one of, if not the greatest comic book characters of all time because he’s so accessible and relatable for readers. He has bills that he has to pay, people hate him most of the time as opposed to lavishing praise on him like most other heroes. Also, I like that he’s like a pioneer, helping to make it so that teens didn’t have to be just sidekicks in comics but could actually be the stars as well.
