Yes, AVG for anti virus, also, a couple of good cleaning programs are:

1) CCleaner CCleaner
2) Coffee Cup Software Privacy Cleaner Privacy Cleaner

The CCleaner also has a registry cleaner.

Another GREAT program that I have had a LOT of luck with is Advanced Windows Care. this is a one click multi purpose system checker. I run this on all of my computers and every one that I work on.

Advanced Windows Care

Lots of options and settings with this program but VERY easy to use.

The website PC Hell also has a LOT of computer info including virus info.

Almost forgot, you can do a free virus scan online at Trend Micro

Good luck.

There is a store not far from you that has hard drives for real good prices.... I know because I needed more "storage" space myself recently. Same problem, lol!

AVG all the way! It's free unless you have a win xp 64 edition, then you have to pay for it....... :) Enjoy! www.free.grisoft.com

AVG is the bomb, I have been using it for two years. Better than Norton and Mcafee

HvyMtl - December 8, 2006 06:32 AM (GMT)
As far as cleaning programs, HijackThis, Spybot Search & Destroy, X-Cleaner, Ad-Aware are all very good in my opinion.

WARNING: If you use HijackThis, it is VERY easy to majorly screw up your computer if you delete the wrong thing. If you're not familiar with it, you can post a log for me to look at and I'd be perfectly wiling to help, or you can find a tech forum where others are willing to analyze HJT logs. While its difficult to use, it can clean things that most other programs can't.

i'll 7th the opinion of AVG. haven't had anything sneak through it in over 5 years of use!

automatic updates, free email scans, can schedule scans how you like it and it's freeeeeeeee

I use Mcaffee and spybot... Mcaffee runs auto and my spybot I run three times a week... Also keep up on your disk clean and defrag... those will lag you down too...
