Harry has become irritable, short fussed and drug dependent. Yet in moments of willed clarity or perhaps played deceptions Harry will retain his original more normal behavior and mannerisms in public or around those he once considered friend.

History Harold Norman Osborn was born the son of up and coming science industries great Norman Osborn and his wife, Emily. A driven and obsessive young man. Norman Osborn was consumed with his work in a goal to rebuild the once great family legacy of Osborn when his wife became pregnant. While it was not in the timetable he had hoped for, Norman was eager to have a son, an heir to his family legacy. Immediately he began to plan out every major step his son would take in life from the schools he would go to, the subjects he would study, the jobs he would have and even the kind of girl he would date and marry. All to lead his son into taking his place at the head of the growing Oscorp Industries.

Unfortunately, his plans were derailed when Emily becoming ill after child birth. With his wife too weak for the full time raising of their child, baby Harry was often left to the care of nurses and servants. Norman himself remained consumed with the work of Oscorp and his own attempts to find a cure for his wife’s illness. Emily did her best to care for young Harry and managed to keep the family whole and happy, pulling Norman away from his work to be with them. However, she could not fight her body forever and at the tender age of five, Harry watched his mother die.

After his mother’s tragic death, Harry’s father became even more distant. He became cold and unapproachable. The mere mention of his mother would send his father into fits of anger. While he never raised a hand to his son, Norman would often belittle and degrade Harry, even going as far as to blame him for his mother’s death.

Norman turned his efforts at Oscorp from medical research to weapons development and manufacturing while Harry was left alone to be raised by changing, faceless caretakers.

By his young teenage years, Harry became angry and resentful to his father and the world in general. This misplaced anger and desperate need for attention led Harry to becoming a delinquent at school, starting fights and vandalizing the school. This in accompany with failing grades led to Harry’s expulsion from several of New York’s finest preparatory schools. Norman did not care to hear about or believe in his son’s troubled behavior and instead continued to push his son into one school after another. Harry’s academic and social behavior continued to decline. Finally, Harry was forced to go into public schools.

The troublemaking son of a wealthy man, Harry continued to find himself alone and looking at a future that would not even include graduation from high school, or so his father believed. This changed, however, when Harry made one friend in classmate Peter Parker. Peter helped Harry in what, for him, had always been the difficult subject of science and actually made it understandable. With Peter’s help, Harry’s grades greatly improved. Even though they had little in common with each other they shared a feeling of isolation and friendlessness and while Peter had the love of family members who raised him they both knew the pain of losing parents. This shared bond forged what would be a best friendship between Harry and Peter.

When Peter confessed to Harry about his long held crush for his friend and neighbor, Mary Jane Watson, it was one of the few things that Harry completely agreed with Peter on. It was not hard to see why Peter would be attracted to such a fun loving and beautiful girl as MJ and it was not hard for Harry to become attracted to her as well. Unfortunately for both of them she was spoken for but this did not stop Harry from at least attempting to hit on her, something Peter never seemed to be able to do.

Harry’s life was starting to look up as, to his father’s admitted surprise, he did graduate. He even got into Columbia University without his father’s financial backing. Despite this, Harry still could not seem to truly earn his father’s approval or acceptance. Instead, Norman seemed to pick apart and find the negative spin to every decision or accomplishment that his son made. Even his best friend seemed to have a better place in his father’s eye then Harry did, which may have been a key factor in his agreeing to pay for an apartment in the city for Harry and Peter to live. While the apartment was free, the price for it was the constant scrutiny and inspection of their lives by Norman.

Shortly after graduation, seeing that she was no longer with her high school boyfriend, Harry asked out Mary Jane and the two began dating. While he was happy to be with MJ he could not bring himself to tell Peter, even though his friend had never made any move in the many years he had known her. Harry still felt guilty about the betrayal to his best friend. Harry also avoided telling his father too much about his new girl, in fear that, like everything else in his life, his father would not approve of her. Harry, however, thought MJ was perfect and knew that given the chance, she could impress his father and earn Norman’s approval for herself and maybe for him as well.

Harry originally planed to introduce his father to Mary Jane at the Oscorp gathering for the World Unity Festival. These plans turned into a nightmare as the masked criminal that would be known as the Green Goblin attacked the festival, specifically targeting the Oscorp group. The Green Goblin killed the members of the Oscorp board of directors present. Harry was helpless to do anything to save himself or Mary Jane from the Goblin. Fortunately, the costumed vigilante, Spider-Man, made a timely appearance, driving away the Green Goblin and saving MJ from falling to her death.

Losing MJ in all the following commotion and panic from the attack, Harry was able to get a hold of her over the phone that night to find out if she was all right. While he was greatly relived she had came out of the incident unharmed, Harry could not help feeling guilty and ashamed for being unable to help her. This feeling was compounded when his efforts to try and comfort her seemed to be brushed aside. As a final blow for the horrible day during the Unity Festival, Peter had spotted him and MJ together. Thankfully, his friend at least seemed to understand and forgive Harry of the slight betrayal.

Harry was still determined to have his father meet the girl he thought was the only one for him. Now that Peter knew Harry’s little secret, the two were able to make plans for a Thanksgiving dinner for the family closest to them. The dinner was going right according to Harry’s plan at first. Peter’s Aunt May was helping make sure they had a proper dinner for the occasion, Mary Jane looked lovely in her black dress and Norman was able to make it there. Harry was finally able to introduce his father and he thought that things were going well. The only snag was a predictably late Peter, but they did not have to wait around for too long before he finally arrived and they were able to sit down and eat.

Then, just as the dinner was beginning, things took a complete turn around for Harry. Norman suddenly had to leave with only a vague work explanation for his rushing out the door. Harry tried to stop his father and convince him to stay by telling him how important MJ was to him. His father’s only response before leaving was not to kindly telling Harry that Mary Jane was no good. To top it off, everyone had heard the conversation and MJ was angry that Harry had not defended her enough. Now, after trying to defend his girlfriend to his father, he had to defend his father to his girlfriend.

After that, Mary Jane would not return his calls or even speak with him. Harry was also concerned about his father as he knew that Norman was dealing with a lot of stress from his work lately. He had even found his father just passed out on the floor at home one morning. All of this made Harry worry about his dad’s well being. Just when Harry thought things couldn’t get any worse for him he was given what felt like a betrayal payback. When Peter’s Aunt May was hospitalized, Harry went to visit her and found Peter and MJ together looking incredibly intimate together. Harry could see the writing on the wall and left as quickly as he could.

Friendless and rejected, Harry returned home to the Osborn mansion. He found Norman again behaving a little strangely but when his father actually cared that Harry was feeling miserable, he gladly confessed his woes to his father. Harry told Norman how he was right about MJ and that she and Peter had gotten together behind his back. Too Harry’s surprise his father admitted and apologized for the long absence in life and promised to make things better for him. Harry immediately forgave his dad of any wrong he had done him, telling Norman he understood that he was a busy and important man. Norman again had to leave quickly but after that talk Harry felt closer to him now then he had for a long time.

Harry spent the night at the Osborn mansion in his old room trying to think over his troubles and his life. He was doing this when he heard a noise inside the house. He got up to look for the source. In his father’s bedroom he saw someone inside. Walking into the room, he found to his shock and horror, his father laid to rest on his bed as Spider-man stood next to him. Harry immediately went for his father’s gun but he was too late. The murdering wall crawler was gone and his father was dead.

At the funeral, Harry was able to share his feeling of loss and his great anger with Peter. Compared to the death of his father, he could not hold any anger at his friend, especially when he learned he had gotten the wrong idea and he and MJ were not an item. Harry thanked god he still had a friend in this world.

Or so Harry thought, as the days and months went by he ended up seeing less and less of his best friend. Of course, Harry blamed himself for part of it as with Norman gone, Harry had to move into the family home and begin to take part in the running of Oscorp Industries. There was also the small fact that Peter was making a living taking pictures of the man who murdered Harry’s father. He did not want to hold that against his friend but he couldn’t help feeling that Peter knew more about Spider-man then he was letting on. Still, his efforts to keep in touch with Peter were lost and after a while he had spoken more to his Aunt then he had him. Harry did manage to keep his friendship with Mary Jane despite their breakup.

Two years after his father’s death, things were finally starting to look bright for Harry. He was given a high profile job at Oscorp and put in charge of choosing and financing their next major research development project. He chose to back Doctor Otto Octavius's fusion energy experiment. Anyone could see the grand potential it offered to Oscorp and the world if the experiment worked and having heard Peter mention Doctor Octavius several times with great praise, Harry felt he could trust the scientist.

Harry next saw Peter when his Aunt invited him and MJ over to help Peter celebrate his birthday. Harry could not help a little bragging over the project and gladly arranged to get his friend a chance to meet one of his heroes. Harry was in high spirits, he was willing to let go of questioning Peter about Spider-man and even tried to help push his friend to try and be with MJ, seeing full well the connection for each other still between the two of them.

Once again, however, in ways completely out of Harry’s control, life took a turn for the worse. The grand presentation of Doctor Octavius's experiment turned into a disaster, taking the life of Octavius's wife and almost killing several others including Harry. The sudden arrival of Spider-man saved Harry and stopped the experiment. The project was a colossal failure for the company and Harry was responsible for it. He had lost everything and the only way Harry saw that he could redeem himself and his family name was to find a way to avenge his father’s death. Despite Spider-man saving his own life Harry swore to find him and make him suffer for what he had done.

Harry took to obsessively studying over Spider-man to try and find a way to catch him. He also took to heavy drinking. Harry was angry at the world and everyone around him. He was no longer forgiving of Peter’s refusal to tell him what he knew of Spider-man and even struck him over it. It was in this angry, obsessive and inebriated state that Doctor Octavius, who had now become a criminal fugitive powered with four mechanical arms, cornered him. Octavius wanted more of the mineral that Harry had provided him for his experiment. Harry refused at first, calling Otto out on the failure of his experiment. However, after he threatened his life and seeing the great strength Octavius now had, Harry decided to make a deal. He would give Octavius what he wanted if he brought him Spider-man. Harry did not care about any danger this hack of a scientist might cause and was even willing to give up Peter as a source to find Spider-man all so he could have his revenge. Though his conscience did get at him to at least instruct Octavius not to hurt Peter.

Harry waited anxiously for Octavius to bring Spider-man to him. The doctor was true to their deal and delivered an unconscious Spider-man right to Harry. Harry honored his end and let the scientist take all of the mineral that he had. Once Octavius was gone and Harry was alone with his sworn enemy, Harry took one of his father’s collected ceremonial knives, ready to plunge it into Spider-man’s heart just as soon has he unmasked the freak. Upon the unmasking, Harry fell back, horrified to find the face behind the mask was none other then his best friend, Peter Parker.
Peter immediately woke up and freed himself of his confines. Harry fell into a state of utter shock and disbelief as Peter tried to question him about Octavius. Harry could not fight or argue with Peter and upon hearing that Octavius had taken Mary Jane, Harry had no choice but to tell Peter everything he knew about Octavius’s plan and where he was hiding.

Harry was left alone in a state of utter confusion by the realization that Peter was Spider-man. He was Spider-man and Harry had let him go. Now, all the mysteriousness of his best friend seemed to click. The disappearances, the exclusive photography of Spider-man and even his rejection of Mary Jane the girl he had loved sense forever, it all made sense now. The only thing he could not explain was why his best friend had killed his father.

Then a voice came to him. Harry could hear his father, Norman, calling out to him telling him how he had to kill Peter. Harry was torn by his own feelings for his long time friend and his father’s demand that he must avenge him. In anger Harry broke a standing mirror and to his surprise, found a secret passageway behind it. This passage lead to a room that held the answer of the final piece of the puzzle. Inside this room, Harry found all of the gear, weapons, and possessions of the Green Goblin.

Now Harry knows all of the secrets but his mind is shattered over what to do now. He has tried to forget it all and just go on with his life but he sees the reminders of his father and Peter everywhere. Harry has tried to leave the city to break away from everything and everyone he once knew. However, the voice of his father still calls out to him. Norman Osborn, the man who Harry had always failed, haunts him and cries for vengeance on the one person who was supposed to be his best friend and did nothing but betray him.
