Welcome to the world of Dragon Flame! This land of myth and legend is home to the dragons, fierce beasts with the ability to fly and capable of using powerful breath weapons. Dozens of species of dragon have been catalogued, and man forged a partnership with them eons ago. Man and beast once lived side by side, with the dragon riders keeping peace and stability throughout the land.

This all came to an end when lord Darin, ruler of Venmort, transformed 9 dragons into fierce titans capable of wiping out entire armies. He bound each dragon to a legendary weapon of frightening power, and his legendary force nearly conquered the entire continent. The 9 dragons were sealed away in dungeons that no man could conquer. The age of dragon riders was brought to a close.

The dragon riders are now a shadow of their former power. The dragons are now a dying race, smaller and weaker than their once-great cousins. Even the great Society of Dragon Riders is now divided into several squabbling guilds. However, even now the dragon riders will still be needed, as now a new tyrant has emerged, seeking the beasts that should not have been created for his own purposes. Lord Drakorn will stop at nothing to re-awaken the legendary dragons.

As a new dragon rider, it is up to you to help decide the fate of the world. Will you work to stop lord Drakorn from acquiring the power of the legendary 9, or will you side with him and crush all those who stand in your way?

Besides the humanoid races, various other creatures walk the world of Dragon Flame. Most of these are non-player races, however if you wish you may be permitted to make a character from some of these species. This entry details most of the creatures that don't exist on Earth. Most are dangerous, and many are carnivorous and capable of eating humans.

Humanoids:

Goblin- The goblin race is a relative of the orcs, and are about the size of a halfling. Goblins follow their base instincts and rarely exercise higher-level thinking, however they are also intelligent enough to operate man-made weapons. Goblins make their homes close to sentient settlements, and have learned to steal what they need from nearby settlements. The goblin race is surprisingly intelligent, however, and have learned to create simple weaponry and build walls to reinforce their homes. They often form simple alliances with orcs.

Harpy- The harpies are a race of creatures that resemble a cross between a human and a bird. Although they are vaguely humanoid, feathers cover most of their body and wings sprout where the arms of a human would normally be. Harpies are always females, when the harpy race's population is depleting the harpies spontaneously become pregnant. The exact method in which this occurs is unknown. Harpies typically don't bother humans unless they wander into the harpy's territory.

Troll- The trolls are another relative of the orcs, trolls are typically gray in color and have the appearance of a misshapen human. Trolls have long arms, short legs, a pig-like face and a large belly. Trolls are carnivorous; they have no ethical qualms about eating other trolls or humans because they have no ethics. The trolls have no higher-level thinking, their thinking is more like animals than humans and have not been observed to speak. The trolls grow through their entire life, so they can measure anywhere from 12 to 60 feet in height. If the trolls' numbers ever grow low, they have a method to increase them at the expense of genetic purity, which is how half-trolls are created. Yes, trolls will mate with humans if they have to. The human partner of the relationship has no say in the matter, and to be used as such by trolls is incredibly traumatizing.

Grendel- The grendels resemble giant, misshapen humans similar to trolls. Grendels are enormous beasts the size of trolls covered in bumps, growths, and spikes. Grendels are incredibly resistant to normal weaponry; magic works much better against them. Grendels are said to be descended from a murderer who was cursed to wander the earth after killing his brother. Grendels are murderous creatures; they consider humans to be prey and have little intelligence. Grendels are nocturnal and typically kill at night while others are asleep.

Ent- The ents are a race of tree-like beings that walk the earth. Ents live in the forest, where they get all their nutrients from the sun. Ents think of themselves as the protectors of the forest, however occasionally they can be too overzealous in their attempt to protect their home. Some ents can be negotiated with; many will allow some areas of the forest to be destroyed in exchange for planting more trees elsewhere. A few extremists, however, will not compromise and viciously attack anyone who might at some point threaten the forest.

Dragon-related creatures

Lindworm- A relative of the dragon, lindworms are flightless and have a poisonous bite. They look similar to serpents with legs, but lindworms are much larger than either, even larger than the dragons. They have little intelligence, and are carnivorous

Wyvern- A species of reptiles also related to dragons. Wyverns are smaller than dragons, about 4 feet in length, but are much faster and have a poisonous barb on their tail. Wyverns have no breath weapons and aren't as intelligent as dragons, however. Greater wyverns are a rare variant of wyvern that can be as large as 20 feet long.

Leviathan- An enormous sea creature that looks like a serpent, and can grow over 200 feet long, leviathan is a terrifying sight to behold. Believed to be a relative of wave dragons, leviathans prey on whales but when desperately hungry will attack cargo ships filled with food. Leviathans eat practically anything they can get their hands on to supply their enormous bodies with enough food. Leviathans' heads look like dragons' heads, and have two long whiskers. They have four large flippers on either side of their body and a long fin going all the way down their back.

Other creatures

Naxar- The naxar are a species of eight-legged black insects that typically live in caves. Naxar look like mantises in that their head and thorax are more or less upright while its abdomen is horizontal. Naxar have four eyes and their hands are like spears. Naxar can communicate with each other using pheremones, and prey upon other animals. Worker naxar are about 3 feet in height, however soldiers can be up to 7 feet in height and queens are 20 feet in height, although they are totally immobile because of their bloated egg-sac.

Griffins- While dragons are widely considered one of the most powerful mounts available, they are also expensive to raise and difficult to maintain. However, as flying creatures dragons are difficult to fight from the ground using short-ranged weapons. Therefore, another type of flying mount was raised. Griffins are a species that looks like an eagle from the front and a lion from the back, but are in fact related to neither. Griffins typically live in the mountains, swooping down on their prey from above with claws outstretched. A closely related species, the hippogriff, has the head and wings of an eagle on the body of a horse. Legends of winged horses are believed to have actually been hippogriffs.

Unicorn- Unicorns are a species closely related to horses, the main differences being that unicorns are much more intelligent and capable of using magic. The most distinctive feature of a unicorn is its large, single horn, however close observation reveals that unicorns have a few other differences from horses. Unicorns have a small beard similar to a goat's, and their hair is slightly longer. Its tail differs slightly from a horse's, and resembles a cross between a horse's and lion's tail. Their hooves also slightly resemble a deer's. Finally, unicorns are large, larger than even the largest of Clydesdales. Despite these differences, unicorns are considered much more beautiful than horses, thanks in no small part to the fact that unicorns are very fast yet very graceful.

The horn on a unicorn's head appears to channel magical energy from the nearby area. Unicorns can use this magic in several ways, such as healing and quick escapes. The unicorn's horn is actually quite fragile, and a unicorn whose horn is shattered is merely horse until it can be healed by magic. Sensing the purity of a person's heart is another magical ability of the unicorns. Occasionally, unicorns have chosen to help out people who are sufficiently pure of heart, but this is always the unicorns' choice, never the partner's. A few warriors have attempted to use unicorns as riding beasts; these attempts have typically ended badly, as unicorns are untamable and will not allow themselves to be ridden except as a favor to those it deems worthy.

Phoenix- A large bird, about twice the size of an eagle, that is associated with fire. Phoenixes have red and orange feathers that appear like flames but is otherwise unassuming. Phoenix feathers are flame-retardant and they have the capability to burst into flames. As it ages, its feathers become less and less vibrant until its feathers look more mud-colored than flame-colored. About once every ten years, phoenixes suddenly envelop themselves in flames and burn until only ashes remain. Immediately after the bird is completely immolated, however, the ash comes together and forms a young bird, flames just as vibrant as ever. The new phoenix has a different appearance and slightly different personality than its former self; this is believed to be a result of a phoenix's resurrection being imperfect, however it can be quite unnerving for new phoenix breeders who realize that their old companion seems like a completely different bird.

Behemoth- A large creature that stands around 30 feet in height and over 50 feet in length. Behemoths resemble hippos or rhinos but is related to neither. Behemoths have large heads taking up a third of their body length. They also have long tails which they use as a powerful weapon. Behemoths typically graze idly in swamps, however when threatened behemoths will attack fiercely. Behemoths are incredibly strong and tough, and will shrug off most wounds. They are also much faster than one would think, although they have a difficult time turning around.
