Title: Some Pretty Big Changes. For Cereal.

Super Mallow - November 4, 2010 05:34 AM (GMT)
So if you're reading this I'm sure you're aware that the board has changed a lot. There's a completely new skin that's way radically different than the last one, a nice dark color with some green accents. The banner has also changed quite a bit. One of the major knocks on me is that I always do things the same way. It's completely true, but I've been taking the right classes and everything so now I'm branching out. This is a good star I think.

I have not - make that we have not - given this forum justice. I take responsibility (can't speak for others, I hope they will themselves) for this. I actually visit everyday (usually on school computers) but my focus has been on the site and wiki a lot more than this. And it's unfair to everyone here. It's not that I'm not interested - couldn't be further from the truth actually.

I was talking to JJ today about the site's status. We're doing well, averaging consistently over 300 people a day now. It's about 200 unique people a day. I see that the board has guests online all the time, but no one is really joining. I know I take responsibility for it and I hope the rest of the staff will as well.

We are doing well, I promise. The Wiki is doing much better than it was with some pretty detailed articles, and it's already amassed 20,000 views in like a month (not people, just views. Granted, every page counts, including the edit pages). I know not a lot of people have edited it yet but hey, all wikis start like this. And since there's already an established Mario Wiki, it's going to take a little bit before people see us as legitimate.

I've put a lot of work into the site recently, but I can't lie, I need some help. I'm not calling out my other staffers because they do a great job, but as of late there hasn't been much of a team effort. Granted, for those who talk to JJ a lot, they know he has a special situation at the moment and this is not his concern and it shouldn't be. BB hasn't been online in forever and I haven't talked to Setzer much either. I myself have been doing work, but not as much as normal.

I don't want to call anyone out, so I did ask around before posting this and others have agreed with me, so I do feel like posting this is not searching for criticism rather than pointing them out. DP is not a solo project and everyone gets what we put into it. I know I've pulled some good sites out in the past but DP is not made for that.

So, with the new skin and everything hopefully comes some changes. I don't know what I can do at the forum when I'm managing site functions and as of right now, being the primary content provider for the wiki. I'm hoping this'll serve as a little kick-in-the-butt for staff members to be totally honest, because we ALL can use it, myself included.

I realize that my past work can no longer...suffice for my current work. Not an easy realization to come to - it can be pretty painful at times to be honest. I know now I can't rely on my past stuff to provide for the new stuff, I have to do it myself. But I need some help from the staff. Again, I can't emphasize this point enough: the quality of the site - any site - reflects the effort put into it.

Hopefully this'll bring about some new members. I want to make this community large and a great place for everything on the series. Please let me know what you guys think about the new additions! (And of course, the post itself :P)

the design is definitely a radical shift! it will take some time to get used to the darker theme.

Super Mallow - November 4, 2010 06:58 AM (GMT)
Lol, so is that a good radical shift or a bad one??

Helios_Knight - November 4, 2010 07:39 AM (GMT)
I'm liking the new skin a lot, and I hope the forums pick up soon. I visit this place almost daily but with almost no posts I normally don't find anything to say.

So, are you just asking more help from your current staff SM? Or is there more to it?

Skin's okay by the way.

GasparXR - November 4, 2010 04:33 PM (GMT)
I like the new skin! As with all new skins it will take a bit of getting used to.

I myself have not been active on the wiki as of late, just a few edits here and there (though I have been, along with the other wiki admins getting rid of the bloody spammers), despite being extremely active back when the wiki started. I will try to help out more often starting now!

Super Mallow - November 4, 2010 04:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah you're doing lots of admin things :)

Demita - November 4, 2010 04:43 PM (GMT)
I really love this new Layout! Meh, I'm really not good for wiki or anything writing in general.

vinnyboiler - November 4, 2010 07:33 PM (GMT)
WOW did someone turn the lights out. I love it :)

The buttons feel a tad bit out of place but apart from that it seems perfect.
Your such a hard worker Super Mallow, and that is what will draw users. Hope the other admins step up as I feel I would. Thanks

This looks really neat...I wish I had more time to come around here, really.

InfinityKnight - November 6, 2010 07:27 AM (GMT)
I have no excuse to say, I do not show up here as often as I should.... But this skin is cool looking =D

Bradii - November 7, 2010 06:56 AM (GMT)
It is a good shift, imo. It's dark, but not pitch-black dark that rips out your eyeballs.
