Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the absence. Both on the forum and the site, it's not very acceptable and I apologize.
Anyways, as stated in the update, I have been working on stuff. I told JJ/Setzer (and some other peoples) about it yesterday but I've found it for the last few days. I've done the research I needed and we should be good for some new things.
But, I want your opinion on some things first.
The first thing, the change, is the Message Board. No, we're not changing right now and may never, but we do have the opportunity to. Turns out I can install a Simple Machines Forum (SMF) which is just as nice (well, nicer) than Invisionfree. Many sites use them and if you don't know which ones they are, Google them. Their closet similar forums are VBulletin and Invision.
JJ helped me and it looks like we can transfer things over from Invisionfree. But, there's some concern, The converter is not made by either company and by some third person, so that's kind of iffy. It should be fine but because I don't know too much what I'm doing (I'd be working live in the site, it would be at donutplains.net/forums or some other url) I don't want to mess up the site. I might test it first by setting up 2 free forums and transferring one to another.
My question is, would you guys want that? Look up the type of forums first to see. Hypothetically if they couldn't be transferred over, which would you like better? Please be honest
The other thing...well, let's just say it's epic. It's something JJ and I have talked about for a long time (BB/Setzer know too, just me and JJ have been talking about it a lot) and can finally be realized (unless I was ill-informed). With this new addition/feature/etc, DP as an entity will have something we've pretty much never seen before in any other major gaming site. Sort of. I'm sure it's out there but it isn't just quite like this.
That, of course, is secret :P. To put it into perspective: Sprinkles is nothing compared to this. It's that epic and will help the site that much.

EDIT: The big addition? Yeah. It's a go. It's a big big biggggggggggggggg go!!!!
Oh, and the addition to the site would greatly impact the board members in a good way. And it's optional. But I think you guys would really really like what you could do with it.
My experience with Simple Machines Forums has been good, though I don't know at all what they look like under the hood. Seems like you've got a good host for Donut Plains, so I say go for it.
And even if you couldn't successfully copy over posts, would it be a big deal? This is still kind of a small-time forum, it seems like you'd be fine to scrap it and start over from scratch.
My only concerns are that our user information could be lost completely, and this third party way in which our information is transferred. As long as this third party guy doesn't get all of our passwords and e-mail addresses then I'm cool.
Will everything be converted offline?
Anyway that post has got me exitited now, I hope it lives up to it expectations :D
