Title: Alternate Reality Mario 64
Description: Tentative title

vinnyboiler - August 3, 2010 04:28 PM (GMT)
Hi everybody!

Throwback World Youtube vid

As some of you may know, I'm designing a SM64 hack.
Story: Mario gets knocked out and wakes up in the future. As you wake up you find out that you had been dead the whole time. A couple of Toads comes up to you in surprise as they needed a hero and Mario could not has come at a better time.
As Mario you must save the Toads from both the evil dictator and it's crazed brother while working out what happned to you and learn how the others coped while you died.

Youtube vid of my water level

I've done a demo of the water level a while back: My water level and now I'm working on an demo for my Throwback world level (based on the SMW mapscreen) once I stamp out some bugs.
As for now, enjoy my screen shot spree :)

The levels look like pretty good designs so far, not really much else to say because you already said the textures are incomplete so no point in complaining about that. XD

Setzer - August 3, 2010 06:04 PM (GMT)
These don't look too bad, Vinny! I wonder if there is a better program that you can use to record them, because yours lags pretty bad. Have you tried Camstudio?

vinnyboiler - August 3, 2010 10:58 PM (GMT)
I've actually found a beter program for it now :) an youtube user called Awesomelukey gave me it :P.

Setzer - August 3, 2010 11:21 PM (GMT)
Sounds good! If you ever need a small Beta Testing community, this is the one for you.

I may need suggestions from you guys, but first... PHOTO SPREE

I'm finished on stamping out all the glitches but I am still quite unsure about the textures, should I borrow some from SMW and if so, would you prefer the textures from the map of the levels themself?

MetalMario - August 7, 2010 03:28 AM (GMT)
Those look neat, but strange at the same time. (Lotsa faces on that ledge.)

vinnyboiler - August 7, 2010 09:44 PM (GMT)
Just a quick update, I've finalised the Super Mario World's world map and the Vannila Dome sub area's level design. All I got to do now is add objects, stars, trees ect.

I'm thinking on releasing an PJ64 save state file with just the empty levels so users can test for glitches :)

Setzer - August 8, 2010 01:35 AM (GMT)
I like the newest map.The colors of it clash together nicely, but it looks like it could be a LOT bigger and contain more obstacles. It just seems empty right now. Think about the Mario 64 maps. Although, I would LOVE to see a linear game in the style of Super Mario 64. But make it very long, but still linear, like you are going through the levels. Maybe some multiple pathways, but just to solve a few puzzles or get a few items that allow you to get back on the main road (As in unlocking a door or something). I think that would be a great idea for a hack, but I can't wait to see what yours turns into. It looks great already.

vinnyboiler - August 8, 2010 04:28 AM (GMT)
I was intending to make to make the level bigger but the game can not handle it if I were to do so. I'm sure I can make this level last for 6 stars and 100 coins which is perfect for any level.
Currently I'm planning the acts for this level. If anyone here would like to could do me a favor, you can help me by thinking of some act names, the acts are;
The return of Wiggler
8 red coins
The first encount of Koopa the Quick
Exploring a secret area
Vannila Dome 5 secret coins
And that star in my first post :D

MetalMario - August 8, 2010 04:52 AM (GMT)
"And that star in my last post"

Pipe Works?

Setzer - August 8, 2010 04:10 PM (GMT)
Just a quick question. Are you going to add any new bosses or enemies into the game? I don't know if that's possible with the tools you are using, but just curious.

vinnyboiler - August 8, 2010 05:38 PM (GMT)
It is hard with the tools I'm using to create new boses but I've been planning on at least one new boss.

I have been planning an boss battle similar to the final bowser battle in SMW (you may have noticed that I like SMW :D). It involves putting a model of the Koopa clown thing next to a rotating platform (thus creating an ilusion of him actually moving), his main attack involes putting an metal ball generator next to bowser (making it seem like his thowing them). I'm still expermenting with it :)

Bradii - August 9, 2010 03:08 AM (GMT)
those screenshots look pretty awesome

Setzer - August 9, 2010 04:09 AM (GMT)
About how long do you think this hack will take to beat? Is it going to be like Missing Stars, or a mini-hack.

vinnyboiler - August 9, 2010 11:12 PM (GMT)
Depends, I'm still at the prosses of designing new levels. I will most likley tell how long this hack is going to be once I get fed up with designing new level (which may be quite awhile)

Setzer - August 9, 2010 11:43 PM (GMT)
So far it looks great! I can't wait for the first demo!

vinnyboiler - August 10, 2010 01:54 AM (GMT)
If you want, I have uploaded a Project 64 SAVE STATE of the (still empty) SMW map level.
Note: to get this to work just place this file in the 'save' folder of PJ64, then in the program load up any SM64 game and then click load under system.
You should then be prompted something. If you click yes then you should be at Donut Plains :)
If anyone wants to, they can hut for glitches on this level B)

MetalMario - August 10, 2010 04:46 AM (GMT)
Whats Project 64?

vinnyboiler - August 10, 2010 05:30 AM (GMT)
Silly me, Project 64 is an N64 emulator for Windows, I test my game on it.

Bradii - August 10, 2010 03:36 PM (GMT)
If you're editing a SM64 rom, wouldn't we need a copy of your rom to make it work? Pretty sure that is how it works.

vinnyboiler - August 10, 2010 05:35 PM (GMT)
That what I thought too, but I realised that my levels can be loaded without any patches just by using save states :D
I don't want to go into detail but some how the save state remembers the levels you were last on dispite it not being in the game at all .
Anyway I guessed this would be useful since then you guys can (if you want) test for glitches.

Setzer - August 10, 2010 06:10 PM (GMT)
After I get some stuff done for the site today, I'll gladly download and beta test it.

vinnyboiler - August 10, 2010 07:58 PM (GMT)
In case anyone don't get what I'm saying (I have that effect on people) I've made a a youtube vid talking about it (link)
Anyway, should I make more of these of these of do you think it wont be needed?

Bradii - August 11, 2010 12:02 AM (GMT)
i might try it, too, but i think ill load it on my wii's homebrew channel.

axem lord - August 12, 2010 11:46 PM (GMT)
Woah. I am a huge fan of the game and have collected all the stars on the DS version atleast 5 times. Deff a project i'm interested in, looking pretty good.

Super Toad 64 - August 27, 2010 10:32 PM (GMT)
Did you use toad's tool or some wacky programming tool that would make me go "what does #FFFFF00 Mean?"

Pretty much, buddy.

vinnyboiler - August 29, 2010 12:10 AM (GMT)
Just a quick note I've finished the Donut Plains level and I'm currently planning what level I going to create next, thinking of ripping some enemys from the game and turning them into levels. I might need ideas for future levels though, so if anyone has any ideas I will be happy to hear them ^_^
EDIT: did the next level, got bored and decided just to do a random one :P Heres the Youtube link My new level!

Super Toad 64 - September 3, 2010 10:04 PM (GMT)
Your save states are invaild to PJ64. Are you sure I can use them?

Setzer - September 3, 2010 10:12 PM (GMT)
Any new updates on this one, Vinny?

vinnyboiler - September 4, 2010 01:07 AM (GMT)
Well I finished that other level so now I'm just thinking on what to do next. I'm may do a snow level see how that goes ^_^ any Ideas/suggestions/whatever are always welcome if anyone can think of any :)

Setzer - September 4, 2010 01:53 PM (GMT)
Perhaps a forest level? And I mean a dense forest, such as how the Forest Maze was in SMRPG. Not just a few trees here and there. It should be dark as well. I haven't seen that in any SM64 hack.

vinnyboiler - November 1, 2010 12:58 AM (GMT)
This is a level I made out of boredom and in celebration of my Spiny ( <- look at how cute he is B))

I would of shown you the model in SM64 but textures are being a pain to import correctly as the texture converter is not working on my new laptop (curse you windows 7 :guns:)

Anyway when I get the textures sorted then I will probably upload a video or something ^_^

PS. I did do a forest area but it was way too glitchy to use (I swear, the amount of times Mario floated into out of space :(). I'm planning on just doing a port of Forest Maze (probably without Geno because I don't think my hack can handle him )

Setzer - November 1, 2010 02:51 AM (GMT)
Gah! You can find a way to smash our favorite doll into it! And perhaps a new boss (Bowyer?) if SM64 hacking is capable of that.

Glad to see that you are still making progress on this, vinny! We're in it with you 100% of the way there!

vinnyboiler - November 3, 2010 07:23 PM (GMT)
In game shots as celebration of finding out why the textures screwed up :D
As seen in the my new Youtube vid: Alternate Reality Mario 64: "Corruption"

I lol'ed at the ROMS ARE ILLEGAL part!

Do you know what the boss will be for this area?

Demita - November 3, 2010 10:59 PM (GMT)
This looks pretty cool. As far as basic Fame works and what not though I would might is you did a 8-bit fame system. Though that would go against the title.

vinnyboiler - November 22, 2010 07:15 PM (GMT)
OK well this update is important as it covers a few things, I start with the less important and work my way up, shall I?

Firstly, I updated my Block Fort level here is its new looks:

:YouTube Video:

Secondly, I started a *really small* forum with tips on how to create a really cool hack. Only me and a user named Awesomelukey have been posting tutorials so far the forum is free for other users to post their own tutorials on hacking SM64.

If you want to check it out it's here: http://sm64-hacking.forums.net.bz/forum.htm

And lastly (and more importantly), I'm finalized designs that off levels that will be in my hack so far. So why let this go to waist?
I'm preparing my first proper demo to be released within the next two weeks.

And that's all folks! Please don't be afraid to ask anything you want about this hack.

Setzer - November 23, 2010 08:06 PM (GMT)
I saw this yesterday but never got the chance to respond. It looks just as great as your other levels! This is going to be a very epic hack! Have you decided how long it will be yet?
