A little off from the book, I know ...

But are there any gamers around? And if so, what games would you be recommending?

I'm playing DOMO - dream of mirror online (you can sometimes see the advertisement for it, along with other games).

I would also recommend MuOnline and Ragnarok Online. Just not maple story laugh.gif

I'm not much of an online gamer, a bit new to the scene. I have been playing bloodlines which is good.

Perfect World is quite pretty, and Atlantica Online also is fun if you like MMO's. I've played both before getting bored, but I get bored of pretty much everything.

Left 4 Dead is admittedly awesome, but is in fact more of a co-op FPS than RPG. In fact pretty much all of the games that Griffen suggested are FPSs rather than the subject of this thread - which is RPGs. You can, however, get RPGs on Steam as well, so I'd still recommend it.

I admit to being slightly oldschool - I quite enjoy playing Diablo and Baldur's Gate. VtM:Bloodlines held my attention for all of an afternoon before I got bored and went back to Might and Magic: Dark Messiah. When I get sick of those I tend to play skirmishes on Total Annihilation so I can blow stuff up. There's nothing quite so satisfying as having your computer chug because half the map is covered by your bombers on their way to raze your opponent's base to the ground. Except possibly for watching said base being razed to the ground.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I tend to do text/forum/tabletop roleplay more than anything else. If you're interested a good site with a wide range of RP is RPoL.Net, RolePlay onLine. Over 4k games running atm with a huge diversity - stats to freeform. Lots of D&D3.5 games. Also lots of vampire games.

I run a clan on Remora server in Final Fantasy XI. To them I'm not 'Kylie Chan - Writer' I'm 'that evil cow who shouts at us and drags us around to kill stuff'. Running an event for 20 to 30 online participants is rather like herding cats.

There is much excitement with the announcement of Final Fantasy 14 online a couple of days ago! It looks extremely shiny, and they'll have none of the 'limitations imposed by the legacy technology of the PS2'.

Final Fantasy XIV Teaser (minimal information, it's really a teaser!)

I'm more of a tabletop RPG'er, D&D(pref 2nd Ed, but I'll run anything). I'm actually involved in a 3.5 Cauldron game at the moment(First time I've actually enjoyed a pre-made game). Also do Rifts(Nothing like being able to throw magic missiles out of a spaceship's airlock to really confuse a setting) and WoD(Love Exalted, it's kinda like playing an old style Manga RPG, complete with "swords of enormous size")

In regards to PC gaming, I'm a fan of Planescape and the Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale series, though I've definately been sold on Neverwinter Nights 2, mostly for the mods, hehe.

My online gaming is pretty standard, Lord of the Rings Online, WoW and Eve Online smile.gif

herding cats... LOL sweet imagery there laugh.gif

To be honest when it comes to gaming I'm more of a do it on your own mystery/ adventure type person (zelda all the way) in pretty much any format. That's why I'm new to online gaming. On Deviantart there are a few chatrooms where people are into roleplaying. Dunno how good they are though.

One of my best friends has officially put me off CS our any other gun games on a PC, owning us both (2 against 1) with the result 50-2, in about 2 and a half to 3 hours *then he tells me he plays professional CS against other players from around the world ... makes me feel so much better ... not.*

For some apparent reason, Baldur's Gate and Diablo (dark graphics maybe?) give me headaches from playing, I can't stay 30mins playing it without taking a long break with a killing headache ...

Been meaning to try FFXI. I'm and FF fan anyways (hence, the name Yuna biggrin.gif ) and I've played FFXII, now I should play the online one too ...

I saw Atlantica Online, that looks good! But DOMO has kept me busy, disbanding a guild, creating a new one and now I'm managing it, all snap decisions in just 24 hours, sigh ...

WoW I will admite I was a big online gamer about a year ago have played some very good online games payed monthly and have played some really poorly done smaller ones.

Still like online gaming but a bit to time consuming. But this sounds like a good one that I can't wait to try next year. I'm also waiting for Final Fantasy XIII for my console.

Can't wait. laugh.gif

Actually, I got a little tired of Guild Wars (It kinda became a grind fest in the end-game to simply get better gear for pvp), but I still go in there from time to time just to sit in and listen to the music and soak up the scenery, it really is one of the prettiest MMO's I've ever seen smile.gif

But ditto on Aion, already pre-purchased so I can get into the closed beta smile.gif Though I'm still worried the end-game/pvp aspect is going to turn out very similar to Guildwars but with flying and some npc's in the mix. But I'm quite sure I'll still happily log in and soak up the scenery like I do in Guildwars, hehe.

HELL YES. Zelda: Ocanrina of Time on Nintendo 64 was the best game i have ever played. Seriously. I know, the graphics and stuff have become really dated, but man... the story line and game play will beat any game that is around these days, hands down. Thats what game developers need to understand; we dont give a rats about graphics. We want good game play and story line over anything shiny they want to through at us.

Anyway, that was my rant... back on topic now. I have played WoW. And yes, i enjoy it. But I'm a student... I'm very poor. So if anyone has an MMO that is free, please let me know. I'm very interested in Final Fantasy, I have heard many good things about it. I've played 9Dragons, which is cool. But you get over it very quickly when you get lots of lag coz you are playing the free version so all these flash adds take up a third of your screen... it gets boring very quickly.

Mostly though, I play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare online. I swear, the game is pretty freaking awesome. Its a FPS, one of the best there is at the moment. Not even the new Wolfenstein can top it from what i have heard.

On a side note, if anyone is interested in game reviews, check out http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation. This guy is very funny. Just dont watch if u dont like bad language lol

There isn't really such a thing as a free MMO, since the free ones pretty much run off a combination of advertising bars and buying extra stuff for your character using cash.

The best Asian style (I class these as being geared for social types playing at internet cafes, e.g. you actually get bonuses for being in a group. They also usually have no storyline or a completely nonsense one. They also all tend to be pretty heavy on the Engrish, if they even have a translated version at all) would be Silk Road Online(if you like kicking ass) and Dofus (if you like cuteness).

The best Western style(I class these ones as being more for soloers playing from their basement, and people who like following storylines) would be Runescape.

These all have huge followings and have been going for several years, so you can be pretty sure they wont be shutting down any time soon smile.gif

Oh, Dofus and Runescape are browser based, so they are good for people who are on the road/Uni a lot.

Though like I said earlier none of these are truely free, the first one, you kind of NEED to buy gear later on. And in the other two, you need to pay a (relatively low) subscription eventually to get to the higher level abilities/gear/areas and get extra quests. Also, all of them are pretty heavy on the grind, but even the best MMO's can't really avoid that completely, so for any "free" MMO, expect grind to be plentiful.

Damn, in the process of writing this, it kind of occured to me that I play way too many MMOs.
