I'm an avid reader of anything sci-fi or fantasy and of course like many of people visiting this forum I've read and re-read the Dark Heavens series so i thought I'd let you in on the titles I've been reading as a fill in before Kylie's new one comes out.

* Circle of magic by Tamora Pierce

* The Dragon Keeper trilogy by Carole Wilkinson

* Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody

* Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda cool.gif

I've mentioned them in another thread somewhere, but the Young wizard series by Diane Duane are pretty good, released pre-harry potter too, so not jumping on the band wagon or anything. Theres about 8 books published, so that's eight whole days worth of reading... tongue.gif
Some of Isobelle Carmody's other books are good too, the legendsong saga is kinda cool, darkfall and darksong are the two books.
Then there's Alyzon Whitestar which is a stand alone book, completely unrelated to most of the rest of Carmody's work, but interesting nontheless

The chronicles of ancient darkness by Michelle Paver are good, but maybe not exactly fantasy. Set in prehistoric America following Torak, a boy that can speak to wolves. Those are for younger readers though, early to mid-teens.

Or there is always Academic journals, which is currently mostly what I get to read.... sad.gif research, the bane of any uni students existance....

Read them all.
-nods head- yup they're good books^^
But the ending to Wilkinson's trilogy was so sad, I nearly cried sad.gif

Always meant to start Isobelle Carmody's books, lol thanks for the reminder!

Prehaps the best series I have ever read is the Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop... Truly brilliant, the system of magic and the social protocols make this series amazing...

Do yourselves all a favour and get into it!

I'm a huge fan of modern urban fantasy. Basically anything that mixes current/ past/ Alternative places and events with the supernatural or super human.

Some of my favourites:

Dresden Files - Jim Butcher ('bout 11 books in the series so far)
Vampire Accademy - Richelle Mead (bit on the your reader side but still worthy)
It's Superman (alternative telling of the classic superman story) - Tom DeHaven
Anything by Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett is AWESOME!! The hogfather was done as a movie, and infact it was done well as a movie too... So was the colour of magic, and a couple of them were turned into an animated t.v series.

Some of my other favourites (Fantasy at its best):

The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss (book 2 on the way)
Monster Blood Tattoo - DM Cornish (series)
Magician (Riftwar Saga) - Raymond E Feist

Phoebe: Pratchett does indeed rule smile.gif

Here's a few I like. Not fantasy but I'm sure they will appeal.

Miles Vorkosigan Adventures - Lois McMaster Bujold
Liaden Universe Adventures - Sharon Lee; Steve Miller
Honor Harrington - David Weber
Paratwa Saga - Christopher Hinz
The Skolian Empire - Catherine Asaro

Of these the first two series are must read's - I re-read all or some of these every year. I've been a Feist fan for years, along with Pratchett, and Anne McCaffrey.
