The Secret level was announced in the Color Dark Castle F.A.Q. The F.A.Q. said you had to pull 4 secret chains, this is untrue, but one must find 4 secret spots.

The first 3 spot's order don't matter, but the forth must be done last. It's easiest to do when the shield and the fireball have already been obtained.

To activate a spot, one must find the spot, and jump at the wall.

To find the secret room, one must hit all 4 spots without dying.

Hitting Apple-Q, during a level, will take you back to the great hall, and it doesn't count as dying, which makes this much easier to find.

• Spot 1 - Shield 3, in bottom right corner of the screen, lower platform.
• Spot 2 - Trouble 3, from the top, jump the gap, climb down the stairs, and jump to left to the small walkway, it's at the end.
• Spot 3 - Fireball 1, middle platform, right side.
• Spot 4 - Black Knight 1, bottom platform right side.
On jumping into the 4th spot, you will go through the wall into the secret room.

If you are still in need of help, there is a extremely useful video, by a member of this forum, gruz, which contains a guide on how to get it:

Ha, very classy of you to leave it a mystery what happens when you pull that chain... it's admirable how you decided to give away the secret without giving away its significance.

Ah, seeing these instructions and knowing I found the room without them and then helped make the instructions makes me feel so good tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Yeah, I remember that I started searching for the secret level a while ago, and I finally emailed Delta Tao out of frustration, asking if they could give me any hints. They sent me a message back saying that I had to pull "four secret invisible chains," or something like that, and they said they were located in spots in each of the four areas of the castle that you don't ordinarily visit (the trouble 3 one was hardest to find).

So, I found it with a little help. smile.gif If you (Izdale) or anyone else found it without any help, then you are *truly* a master of Dark Castle.

I found it on my own! I remember noticing the seemingly unused area of Trouble 3, and slamming Duncan's head against it just to see what would happen. When I heard the chain sound, I was going to write it off as a glitch, but then I remembered hearing there was a secret level.

Poor Duncan's head. I rammed that poor sap into every damn wall in the game before I found it.

And of course, the first time I made it to the secret level I fell into the dungeon before I made it to the chain. Seeing as how I was playing on advanced, that was a bit of a setback.

Well I did have a *little* help... I asked Jon God about it back in January, and he happened to know that it made a noise in Trouble 3 when you jumped into that wall and that he didn't know from there... So then I figured it would make sense for there to be one secret spot in each castle section, shield, fireball, etc. and then I also started ramming Duncan's head into walls laugh.gif But it took me awhile to get all the spots without dying because I wasn't hitting Ctrl Q when I would get a spot. I was fortunate enough to have climbed the ropes in the secret room and gone to the chain that way rather than walking on the floor and falling into the dungeon tongue.gif

I'm glad Color Dark Castle didn't make you spin out for running into walls, otherwise the secret level would have been a PAIN IN THE BUM.

I think I discovered a reason why it is a VERY GOOD idea to get to the secret room: It give you tons of extra lives!! If you have been there and pulled the chain that might seem backwards, but when I got there today and pulled the chain, I heard the extra guy noise, and all of a sudden my bar was full of lives!! And then I tried dying over and over and it looked like I wasn't losing any lives! At first I thought finding the secret room gave you an infinite amount of lives, so I kept dying over and over to test it, and then all of a sudden I realized I only had 2 guys left! Lol so if I had to guess, I would say that I was given 20 lives for finding the room and pulling the chain in it.

But if someone could confirm this, that would be great!

On beginner it gives you 100,000 points, not sure about other difficulties:

So, on beginner, it gives you 20 lives.

for those of us who never got to play CDC... does anything happen w that chain besides extra lives? I could go find it on ebay I guess but I'm on an intel mac and it all seems like too much work. a screenshot maybe? I don't mind a spoiler, you could just email it to me so as not to ruin it for everyone else.

Well, it makes a cool little animation, but no, you don't really unlock anything. It's mostly just a figurative badge of honor.
