I have a Blackberry (I won't even consider an iPhone unless I can use Verizon as a carrier -- and besides, the App Store censorship thing annoys me.)

But I figure there won't be a release for the Blackberry, so the iPhone was the best target platform for the poll. smile.gif

The game would have to be seriously dumbed down for the iphone - there's no way you could get accurate keyboard and mouse on screen controls. Especially not with one hand so you can hold the phone with the other.

Same for me, and a mini-mouse or a mini-gamepad to plug into it... wink.gif

No, they're not. (sorry to say)

Besides, it stands to reason (as has been pointed out) there's no way a game with RtDC's complex controls could actually be playable on the iphone. Zack would be better off spending his time writing a new game which was less complex for that sort of thing.

They'd probably use Meteor Storm as a test ground.

Like many have said, Dark Castle on the iPhone would be too difficult to play.

But perhaps a spinoff game where the player is the Black Knight and you have to throw mugs at Duncan/Bryant. Using the accelerometer, the game would detect the gentle tipping motion of the iPod as the beer-drinking motion (the player must drink the beer lest he decides to lose points or get penalized by the brewery), and detect rapid flicking motions as the throwing motion.

The game could be in a 1st person perspective view. The game would be 3D and allow the player to scan a 180 degree view around the throne.

Difficulty levels would be a reverse from what we know. Beginner = 2 mug bounces, Intermediate = 1 mug bounce, Advanced = no mug bounce.

I really like this idea.

The only problem with a spinoff like this, though, is that Dark Castle is such an obscure (relatively speaking, at least) franchise to begin with that I'm not sure the significance of the "Black Knight throwing mugs at Duncan/Bryant" would fare well with the masses as far as recognizability.

Sort of like an "inside joke, on an inside joke....on an inside joke." We in the forum, of course, would get it and eat it right up, but for most people, it's just a game where you are some random guy on a throne throwing mugs at some other random guy who, for whatever reason, is running around your throne room trying to dodge your beer mugs. shrugdq0.gif mug.gif

My point is, most people would be asking: what's the point? Maybe even: wtf?

Then again, if the game was done well and word of mouth got out about how fun it was then I'm sure it would do just fine, and it wouldn't matter at all if people were able to connect the dots back to the other Dark Castle games.

Hey, that's pretty cool! Sounds like you could have something there. Just don't tell SHFF about it....if you do, it will be released "soon" in 2030. Puzzled2.gif

I think this would be a great game for the iphone. Many of the games are not puzzle adventure games like this which would put this game in a good niche for the iphone.

Far as controls, the landscape mode of the iphone gives you plenty of thumb space on the screen. I've played games with touch control pads in the lower left and right corners of the screen that allow you to control your character. Hell, I've even played one that allowed you touch anywhere on the screen, then drag a direction to control your character.
