I get the feeling that we are back to the same part as we were before in terms of the original game, only this time it's the Level Editor. The part I'm talking about is where it seems like SHFF is taking their time for no good reason, if you look, for all the beta testing that was done for DC3, it still had lots of bugs, the editor was pretty much ready to be released when DC3 comes out, but was held back to due to glitches on intel macs.

And a few months later, we are still without a level editor. We've been looking at the "- A level editor will be released soon." since the game came out, and with no updates on SHFF's side.

I keep getting this deja voo feeling of what happened before, Zsculpt just waiting on SHFF, who doesn't seem to care about it enough to really focus on it, when it could probably be released right now.

So. I say, take some action, before, the community was able to help push DC3 towards release. Why not now?

Here are 2 E-Mails for SHFF:

support (at) shff (dot) com

mpierce (at) shff (dot) com

Tell them that you bought the game, and are waiting for the editor, and have been waiting since it came out, let them know that until a little before the game came out, the editor was advertised as shipping with the game.

I wasn't so sure about your idea to do this, until I remembered 2 things. One, didn't Zack already get approval to have the forum try a beta version? Because I thought he had, and that he was waiting for the go ahead from SHFF. Second, besides the fact that we have waited for so long, most of us here on the forum paid $10 more than anyone who buys it now! So I do plan to send them a friendly email asking about it, good idea Jon.

I got an E-Mail back from MSP, it was kind of a cookie cutter response, though he mentions the beta.

As for Zack getting the approval, I don't think so, otherwise we'd have it now.

I've had a feeling that this would happen. The level editor isn't going to make them any more money than the full game, so what incentive do they have to release it?

It's gonna be a long, LONG wait I think. sad.gif My opinion, though: we've paid for the game already, Zack should just go ahead and release whatever level editor he currently has, no matter what the issues are. Isn't the editor supposed to come with the price tag?

So much for the word "soon." These folks have distorted that word beyond any recognizable meaning.

Yep. I don't think we'll see the level editor for a long time unless Zack puts his foot down and *demands* that it be released as beta.

And like Jon said, the level editor could come out in a year (with a year and a half's worth of internal beta testing) but it'll be full of bugs anyway because there's no way a small team of beta tester is going to catch all the bugs in a level editor. Even big bugs will slip by. So it's not wise for SHFF to hold a semi-public beta release from us. They're just doing more harm than good.

I was looking forward to Return to Dark Castle...but the thing I was most excited about (excitement that dwarfed the excitement felt by the release of RtDC) was the prospect of a level editor. I paid for RtDC pretty much because I wanted to have the ability to create my own levels in a near future. And this has yet to happen. If a full year passes by, I'm going to demand SHFF a partial refund for falsely advertising the level editor as coming "soon".

I think if you can't get them under false advertising, then given the `soon' saga, the copy protection fiasco and the refusal to beta test; you'd still have a case for gross incompetence. smile.gif

Yes...at the very least.

I wish I could just bypass SHFF and just send my money to the Zacks. I'd pay the Zacks sixty dollars for their awesome work. It sickens me when some company just steps up to the plate, grabs the rights, and claims all the glory while looking totally incompetent in the process. SHFF doesn't deserve a single penny from me. The Zacks deserve all of it and more. They're the ones that brought us RtDC and SHFF is are the ones that brought us a delayed release over copy protection, an annoying copy protection that does nothing to prevent piracy, a delayed update and garbage cookie-cutter customer service responses that translates to "bugger off kid, you bother us".

Why can't Zack release the editor without SHFF's name on it? If SHFF is afraid that it's too buggy and that it would tarnish their reputation (which simply trash in the first place), just let Zack release it. SHFF won't make money off this editor, and the editor would only serve to sell more RtDC. Why does the editor have to be official? I guess because it's written on SHFF's website... sad.gif ...makes it official and they can't backpedal and say that there was no level editor in the works.

Argh.

I implore everyone to E-Mail SHFF, I think that bugging them, is the only, and best thing we can do to make them hurry up...

Not to sound deliberately contrary - but I don't believe a large number of badly worded and/or whiny emails is likely to help - indeed more likely to annoy them.

It makes it harder for them to ignore at least.

At best they might realize it would only take them a small amount of effort to just release it now.

I'm going to write them a "nice" little note. I think it's total crap that we don't have it yet. Those guys at SHFF have broken every rule that pertains to doing good business. They do not market their products accurately or truthfully, and it's utterly despicable. I think we should all start demanding a ten dollar refund pretty soon here if they don't release it by the end of the month.

I couldn't care less about annoying them. I find it considerably more annoying that they enjoy being so lazy and careless with their advertising.

Well, I meant it more along the lines of, someone making sure the horse keeps walking.

Like, that if they are hearing about it, they can't ignore it.
