Title: tips on final BK battle? (spoilers)
Description: tips on the final screen
slashmc - April 1, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
I can drop the chandelier in 10 sec flat nearly every time, but in what has to be over 300 tries now I can't even come close to defeating the Black Knight (on beginner - lame I know). I can hit him once, maybe twice with the sword before dying, but I've been unable to pick up any "tells" or patterns in his movements to know when he will slide. I know I can jump on the table (faster death for me) and can on the rare occasion hit his helmet with a stoneball which buys you a few extra seconds.
Can anyone share some fighting tips with me? my game stands at 90% and I simply can't make any progress here. Better yet, can someone post a beginner BK screen recording I could watch?

You must use the stoneball to beat him. You'll just have to get your aiming down so you can tag him in the face. When he's "stoned" :P hit him with the sword.

You can check my video for defeating him on advanced here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?lrjmirhjhnwBasically, the rope and the skeleton platforms are your friends. When you hear a gargoyle, go on the skeleton platform to kill it. When the BK is facing you, hang out on that rope until he turns around. Then drop off, stone his face, and hit him with the sword. The most hits you can get in a row is 6, if you're really audacious. I generally go with 5 to be safe.
Also notice that his cup dispenser starts to drop out elixirs. That's a bit of a giveaway. ;)

Thanks Zack! I'm one of many who have been emailing you all these years and have to say the final product has been worth the wait. Congrats on finally releasing a great game!

Yeah, although you've heard me say it before:
Probably the best product I ever could have hoped for.

That depends on how fast you can click ;) 6 is normal for me, but depending on where I am when the BK gets frozen, I have gotten 9 hits on him at once with the sword without dying.

Really? I never counted, but that seems like a lot.

This is true, but you've got a different (better) method than I do, which allows more hits. I stay in front, you jump behind. Pretty sweet, though.

When I posted about hitting 9 times, I had not learned to jump behind him yet, I did that on accident a little later while recording a speed run. I have done 9 times in front of him, I can record a demo if you want.
EDIT: Actually, Alaric just posted a speed run in which he hits the BK 9 times from the front. Watch here, if you have already beaten the game on Advanced:

Well I stand corrected. :P

I always stay on the top floor after dropping the chandelier, pelting him in the face with fireballs until his health bar is down to nothing. Then I finish him off with a single solid sword swipe.
Problem is, if he kills me while I'm trying to stone him, I never have enough rocks to try again, and either have to repeatedly pick up the scant twenty rocks and kill myself, or just abort the mission altogether.

Although I go to the floor to through fireballs at him, like you said, one silly mistake and you are dead and really can't retry...the exact reason I have resorted to Mr. Sword.
