Title: Custom Test Level
Description: Just to play with...
Zack Black - March 26, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
Please to enjoy. (FYI: there is a bug with the jumping buckets and scrolling levels in current build of DC3, so don't be surprised if they... err.. multiply. )

Ah ha! I knew it was worth waiting around to see what you were about to post... :)
La Porta - March 26, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
Excellent! Liked getting that Silver Cup and putting it in the window. I found out something too: if you lose a *Certain Weapon* on the floating bone platform, it drops correctly, but when you come back to life, the *Certain Weapon* is half way through the platform. I took a screenshot if you want.
gruz - March 26, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
That was pretty neat, I can't wait to get my hands on that editor!
tbone922 - March 26, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
Awesome!
I can't wait to make my own levels, as well as see what other people come up with. The background on the "Quick Test" level was really nice too.
I saw what you meant about the multiplying buckets. I'm glad they don't do that in the regular game!
La Porta - March 26, 2008 10:29 PM (GMT)
It does beg the question: WDYRTFEA?
Or: Why Don't You Release The Editor Already? ;)
Richard - March 26, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Zack was hoping to release a beta today pending approval from SHFF.

Oh, cool. Not that I'm really antsy for anything anymore, but...with a beta, will we have access to all features of the editor? Or maybe Zack didn't mention this?
That's pretty exciting; having seen all of DC3, I'm pumped to begin expanding the experience with even MORE levels! :D
La Porta - March 27, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
I'm just as excited as I was when I ordered Marathon Infinity and wanted to get my hands on Forge and Anvil.
Action Jack - March 27, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
This was a nice little piece of level. I was, however, concerned that I was able to bring a weapon with me when playing it; taking some of the more powerful weapons into a homemade level might ruin some design elements.
Are we going to be able to use custom music for our levels? Or make them different depending on the difficulty?

The answer to the difficulty question, "yes."
Bryant Esquire - March 27, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
That was really cool. Short and sweet to be sure, but there's something awesome about seeing a homemade creation function as smoothly and as fully as RtDC. Thanks a million, Zack! I'm pumped about the editor - been dreaming about such a thing since I was a kid. B)
I've got a few things to keep me busy while I wait for this tasty morsel... haven't reached 100% on RtDC yet. ;) Taking it nice and slow. :D

Hehe... Me too. So take your time with that editor, Zack. :)
A problem nowadays is that I hardly dare to visit this forum, since there are so many spoilers. I mean, come on people, titles like "Witch Cave run using only the Sword". Why? What sword? I haven't gotten to that part yet. However, I'm up to 67% percent on beginner now...
That said, after browsing the forum for the first time in a while today, and staying well out of the spoliers (as it was called back in the days :) ) forums, I have noticed that most of you are very serious about not having spoilers in the wrong place. And that any mistakes in that area are usually corrected.
I appreciate that! :)
Richard - March 27, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
regarding the sword, this was given away long before by a "what's your favourite weapon" poll. I also though the sword shouldn't be there... It was only available in one early beta, and not in any of the mainstream demos that most people played...

For sure, I knew about the sword since I played that beta and saw the poll, but I still haven't found it...
izdale - March 27, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
Should this be moved to the Level Sets section, since it is a test of a level set?

Thanks for moving this moderators!
Nacnud - March 27, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
You will, young padawan. Even if you are not looking for it, you will find it.
Gullwhacker - March 28, 2008 03:49 PM (GMT)
...you know, I thought the massive spawning of buckets was a feature, not a bug.
You mean that you weren't trying to torment all those who hate buckets, Zack?
Bryant Esquire - March 28, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
Personally, I love the buckets. Pretty much my favorite new baddie. :D

I did too, until I read your post.

What version of RtDC do you have? You probably have 1.3. This is exactly the kind of thing I warned SHFF about. People will say that things don't work and the majority of us won't know why things don't work because most of us are unaware of 'secret' versions. Well...they're not secret anymore but they could have been.
1.3 probably breaks this one and only existing custom level and breaks all 1.2 replay recordings.
Super Happy Fun Fun is not fun at all.
gruz - June 8, 2008 03:54 AM (GMT)
Super Happy Fun Fun is super fun, 50% fun, 25% happy and 25% super. I don't know what you're talking about Alaric.
Another thing though, I thought only the replays would be broken between updates.
Rockhenchman, what version of Return to Dark Castle are you using? You put the file in the "DC3 Custom Levels" folder (after you extract it) and then went to the Laboratory and pulled a lever, right?
Richard - June 8, 2008 09:53 AM (GMT)
The test level works fine for me in both versions...
Rockhenchman - June 8, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Yes gruz, you're right. I've got version 1.2...
But in the Laboratory there was nothing...
Richard - June 8, 2008 02:33 PM (GMT)
You need to put the level in the cutom levels folder, then you need to pull one of the chains in the laboratory to load it. Once you've done that, stand under the pipe and press the `up' key.
Rockhenchman - June 8, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
Yes, I know, but on the list in the Laboratory there is nothing!
I copied the file Test Levels into the folder, but there is nothing...
Richard - June 8, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
Could be a permissions problem, or a corrupted file. Difficult to diagnose further with the limited information.
Rockhenchman - June 8, 2008 05:15 PM (GMT)
I copied the file "test Levels" into the Folder. Then I started the game and went into the laboratory, but, well, there was nothing...

Did you pull the chain to activate the level?
Rockhenchman - June 10, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Yes, but on the list there was nothing... :(

Weird...
Just confirming... you put it in:
Dark Castle 3 ƒ > DC3 Custom Levels
Right? And not in another folder inside that or anything?

Hey guys...remember when Zack started this thread, a few days earlier he was doing everything in his power to try to give us a beta of the level editor to play with. Those were the days. :)

Pfft.
It might still happen, it's just going at SHFF speed....
