I found this today, it is list of "The 20 Mac Games that Mattered Most"

| "The Mac had already developed a reputation for not being a 'gamer's machine' because it was black and white and had a small screen, but this game proved naysayers wrong by offering more detailed graphics and realistic sound than you could get on a PC, by far." - Peter Cohen, MacCentral |

Well, it really did earn it's place there, it's a great game.
For a second I was all excited hoping it was DC3 that was reviewed...

Did anyone else happen to read this article yet?

I read it, but the list seems to be in chronological order, not best-first-order. We all know that the first one is the best though, so maybe this doesn't matter.
I am a huge fan of "Fool's Errand", so I'm happy to see it on second place. But then again, it might be because is the second oldest game.

Fool's Errand was awesome, I still pull it out occasionally to play the card game :P

I wish there was a rule sheet so I could play it in real life :P

Hmmm, it does seem that way.... I guess it would be hard to compare the 80's games to the current games on that list as far as the 'best' goes.

Well, it depends, like, you couldn't compare DC to a racing game...

Greatness is timeless. I never understood how some people could listen to music from only the time that they were in high school / early twenties, etc. Their generation's music, basically. If it's good, it's always going to be good for all time. There's no expiration date on pleasing sound waves. Music does evolve, but one could argue that in many instances it devolves as well. Classical music is composed with an entirely different level of genius, and it isn't nearly as popular as it was before other types of music began to emerge.
One could argue, though, that the one real exception to the 'timeless greatness' rule is humor. Humor has definitely evolved and devolved quite a bit in the last century, and it's also the most subjective of the arts.
Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, a great game is great whether it was made is 1978 or 2008. But every time someone raises the standard of fun, what was previously considered great may then be only good or mediocre. But I don't think the standard of fun has been raised too high in the last decade.

I completely agree with you on this one.

Huge bump, but thanks for the link. I hadn't seen that list and am tempted to try out some of the games on there which I haven't played. For example, I've never played Fool's Errand.
Anyone have the disk image? ;)

Ye might want to be headin' o'er to the Garden for that one.

Better still, as reported
here, there is a sequel coming. And author Cliff Johnson has a webpage called
The Fool's Errand et al. where he reports on the progress of this game.
Also, all his old games, including The Fool's Errand, are downloadable for free from that site. Even the PC versions... yuk.

And another masterpiece. (sp).

Well, I downloaded the original from the site you pointed me to for Fool's Errand... I packaged up the files into a *.img and threw it into vMac... OMG this game is amazing. I've been hooked all evening. Some of these puzzles are super challenging.

That's great to hear, it's one of my favorites! Along with DC and Uninvited. Did you try the latter? We have been discussing it here from time to time.

I choose the games I play by it's level of humor. If it makes me laugh, I continue to play intensively. If it doesn't, I drop it.
