I'm cursed. Any time I'm flat broke I find the coolest stuff:

Both sealed in the original shrink wrap too! They're at $9.99 now but they have 6 days left.
I learned something from the BDC box, Prince Duncans true color scheme is an orange shirt with black pants... Crazy.
Jon God - June 12, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah, and the BDC box art is pretty cool in my opinion
izdale - June 12, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
So is anyone here going to try and win the auctions?
La Porta - June 12, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
I'm on it...let's see what happens. NO guarantee that if I win I will open the boxes, though ;)
gruz - June 12, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't either, those are definitely collectors items in my eyes!
izdale - June 12, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
I just want to make sure that someone on this forum wins the auctions... Are you currently the winning bidder La Porta?
La Porta - June 13, 2007 12:09 AM (GMT)
Nah....I wait it out...i'm a sneaky bastard like that.
izdale - June 13, 2007 12:16 AM (GMT)
Well that always works... as long as the bid you put in at the last second is high enough  I think if the seller really understood it's worth they could have started the bid a lot higher... Ha ha lucky for us they didn't :D

Wow! I would love to have those! Too bad I'm spending all my money renovating our house these days. A year ago I would have won the auction. I really hope you will win the auction, La Porta! Keep us updated!
And, yes, the starting price is outrageously low. I hope we're the only ones to notice this.
lonerook - June 13, 2007 07:40 AM (GMT)
Does anyone know what the original price for DC and BDC was? As I remember it, games were pretty expensive back then. I remember buying Mac games around 1990 for the equivalent of $30-$40. Being 15 years ago, it's pretty expensive. Maybe I remembers these things wrong...

I'm not positive but I think they were around the $30 mark. I remember drooling over BDC in one of those Mac catalogs and begging my mom to buy it for me!

I would assume so, but I am not certain *shrugs*
gruz - June 16, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
The prices are starting to rise with 1 day 20 hours left!
DC is at 10.78 with 5.55 shipping
BDC is at 16.51 + 5.55
I bet someone at least has a max bid of 20 bones though, I would at least if I was trying to win at this stage...
Jon God - June 17, 2007 06:49 AM (GMT)
La Porta, we are counting on you!
izdale - June 18, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
Just about an hour left and the prices are up again...
izdale - June 18, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
WOW! That was intense! I just watched the ending to both auctions and it jumped from $15 and $20 to finish at $63! That was definitely a battle on both of them, I sure hope that was you La Porta :)
Jon God - June 18, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
La Porta - June 18, 2007 09:19 PM (GMT)
No sorry guys, the highest I was going to go to was 40 for each....I even went up to 60 for BDC but then the guy jumped me. I dont have unlimited resources...unfortunately :(
izdale - June 18, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
Ah I wish I would have known that you had a limit, I could have won them otherwise but I saved it for you to do
La Porta - June 19, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
What happened also was, as always, I was out of my house beforehand...or I would have tipped you off!
Jon God - June 19, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
oh, well, keep an eye open from now on, we might bet lucky.
La Porta - June 19, 2007 04:36 AM (GMT)
lonerook - June 19, 2007 06:38 AM (GMT)
Bidding up to $60+ for these games makes you a big DC/BDC fan. We should invite these guys from ebay to this forum! Is it possible to get in touch with them through ebay?
I am sorry you didn't win, La Porta, I guess you had pictured yourself putting these games next to your old Mac in that special computer shelf of yours...
But if we get the winner to join the forum, these games will not be "lost"!
izdale - June 19, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Um, it is possible, but it wouldn't let me do it, I just tried. It might be possible for La Porta to contact them since he was involved in the auction, but it wouldn't let me send the message.

La Porta - June 20, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
i had the same idea but, no, once its over its purchaser only.

you could ask the person selling it? I dunno
gruz - August 9, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
Someone's selling Mac DC (Disk Only) on ebay, I wouldn't buy it though... It's $38 with no box.
It's kind of interesting though, they used screenshots from the PC version and the description says, "Somewhere within the Dark Castle of Brightland, the Black Knight awaits..."
I haven't seen anything about Dark Castle being in Brightland, did I miss something?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=110153467366
Richard - August 9, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
That's definitely the PC vers, unless they re-span the original DC version that I bought.
The version I had, the box had a colour version of the picture from the introduction screen - and didn't have a coloured manual. Also, the screenshots are obviously from the PC version.
As to the description, no idea about Brightland - I think that is made up, along with the shield `Maze' (no maze in the shield rooms, unless perhaps they mean the `maze' of platforms in shield 4). Then there's `Fireball Warehouse' ? uh...?
And finally the idea that levels control how many lives you start with, which is plainly wrong, even for the PC. Still, he doesn't do too bad a job selling it. I suspect though that he's just got screen shots from DosBox, download the image, and doesn't have any original media/packaging. All the images he posts are available on the web - except for the instruction card which might be though I haven't actually seen it.
Richard - August 9, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
lol, just noticed SCREENSHOTS MAY DIFFER SLIGHTLY just above the screenshots section. In those famous words... No sh*t, sherlock
gruz - August 9, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, I didn't even notice the fireball warehouse thing, that's hilarious!
Jon God - August 10, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
you think that person even played the game?

Nope, as I say, I reckon it's a pirate sell-on

Someones selling the original DC on ebay, and it's only at $15.00 including shipping. The box looks a little fondled  but its really not too bad for under 20 bones. The disks don't look too bad either, they LOOK like they're in working condition, but I'm wondering if someone had their way with Disk 2...

And the front:

It's got 4 days 21 hours as of writing,
http://cgi.ebay.com/PC-ORIGINAL-Dark-Castle-...(Hahah, they said PC original Dark Castle for the Mac...)
Also, someone is selling an unopened shrink wraped mint condition copy of CDC!

It's 9.99 with reasonable priced shipping, only 2 days 23 hours left on this one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Macintosh-DARK-CASTLE-Colorized...No bids as of now on either auctions.
Richard - November 5, 2007 08:52 AM (GMT)
ah, yup, that's the box copy I have somewhere... Nostalgia :)

The DT boxart looks so boring....
