Title: Sheepshaver

La Porta - June 11, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
Ok, so out of you guys who have it working, can you give me a rundown on how to get it working? I have tons of old Macs if I need a ROM, all the system software needed....I just don't want to lug around a Powerbook 1400 to play Marathon and such.

I found this:

I haven't tried it, because I already had it working, as it's fairly easy to get working, in fact, apple has a ROM file hidden in a download, that you can receive, so all you need is the system disks.

Well, now that I got it to stop giving me grief over "unsupported ROMS" (tried my OS 9.0.3 and my iMac DV ones...both were unsupported). Then I got one off the 8.5 CD, which they said works. Now that stopped giving me those ROM errors....it starts to a black screen, then quits a few seconds later. Any ideas from anyone?

I'll bet it's the rom, try using the rom from Mac OS Rom Update 1.0

Use TomeViewer to extract the ROM from the installer

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/4561

That's the rom file I used with it and it runs great. (I'm using the Windows version of sheepshaver though)

Yeah, that's the ROM I used and it works, you'll just need a Mac OS disk.

La Porta - June 12, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
Can someone just send me the file. The Tome viewer is giving me a -43 error when I try to extract the file.

La Porta - June 12, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
Actually, scratch that...I pulled one of my usual ghetto, back-alley schemes. On my old iMac DV, I moved the ROM file out of the system folder, ran the installer, then when it said to restart, I force quitted and made it back to the Finder, where I took the installed ROM file, copied it to my MacBook Pro, then moved the original ROM file back to the System Folder before the computer knew any better.

This is why I love the old school system!

Anyone able to get sound?

La Porta - June 13, 2007 12:49 AM (GMT)
Sorry for about the 50th post...but I had an idea. Does anyone still have a copy of sheepshaver for PowerPC only? The intel version is crapping out on me big time, no sound, all kinds of crap. The developer said he couldn't even test it. I figure since rosetta runs things on here comparable to my 800MHz iMac G4, that I could get that "native" speed through rosetta emulation without the intel hassle.

It is now stable (finally!) but I can't get any sound output...hmm.

La Porta - June 14, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
Monitors and SOund control panel. But, according to it, there is no output source available.
