Hello.

My friend Gary and I are thinking about making a Dark Castlestein 3D game with medieval graphics in the tradition of Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny. We've been talking about it for months.

It will probably have lasers shooting out of the walls, secret levels accessed in different ways, orbs, MechaHitler armor code for a surprise enemy, more code changes, and more surprises. “MechaHitler code” is what we call the code on Wolfenstein 3D where MechaHitler’s armor falls off and you still have to fight him. I need to get busy with the C++ coding tutorials.

I have a question that I’d like you to please post with an answer. How many of you would play a free PC game based on Color Dark Castle, Beyond Dark Castle, and Return to Dark Castle with Wolfenstein 3D or Spear of Destiny coding if we made it? Also contact if you want to help. I hope that we’ll be done in 2 1/2 years. If we finish, then we might later have a Greek Mythology or Egyptian mod or add-on.

I'm afraid I don't do the FPS genre generally (or rather, not since the original Unreal, and then Marathon before that). Also Windows based is definitely another black mark.

however...

I'll certainly at least look at [i.e. download and try out] anything that is DC inspired/based just out of respect for the time and love sunk in to its creation. Obviously there is also a level of personal curiosity as well. ;)

Hm... so not just a mod where you turn the dogs into mutants and put a dopey nobleman's face over BJ's, but a new game proper? Intriguing.

I'd play such a title in a heartbeat, but unfortunately I'm Mac-only at this point.

I'm Mac-only as well, but I'm a huge fan of the Wolf 3D games, and I even loved the first Castle Wolf back "in the day" as well.

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody. Today or tomorrow, I'm going to discuss again with the other programmers which Wolfenstein 3D or Spear of Destiny mod to use as a base.

It seems that the best Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny coders are working on their own projects with advanced coding and they’ll help me when they are finished. Dark Castlestein 3D is going to be delayed more than I thought. But I’m glad that I got to talk about which Wolfenstein 3D or Spear of Destiny mod to use as a base. It will have advanced coding features as surprises.

I want to update on this thread once a year about my progress.

I’m really sorry. We have so much going on that I’m 99% sure that Dark Castlestein 3D is canceled.

Shame. Such is life though.
